    Aw, he looks sweet.

Reminds me of my girl of 16.5 years that I said goodbye to the previous Summer.
I think her seeing and hearing had been on the decline for a few years prior as well, but her nose never failed her.
I have a lot of love in my heart for the OT's (old timers).

Ghost's health deteriorated in a hurry last week and we had to put him down. He had a condition called degenerative myelopathy and I think maybe I was in denial about how badly he was slipping over these past 6 months and how far removed he was from the days when he would ski or bike with me all day. It's hard to acknowledge that you're going to lose such a loyal friend.

He was a really good dog: smart, empathetic, and loyal. We skied together every single year of his life, covering 6 different states and the District of Columbia: we even got in probably 20 days together in the last year, though they were very mellow. His 13th birthday would've been Thanksgiving. I'm not 100% sure about the day he was born, but we knew it was mid to late November, and we decided he could just enjoy the holiday and eat turkey scraps. He was a hell of an athletic dog and could run forever until the DM started to mess with him: our big days when he was in his prime were 25-30 miles.

He had some friends who post on here, and he enjoyed their dirty ski bum company over the years.

    Miss ya buddy.

Fuck me I just stumbled across this thread & there is definitely something in my eye...first of all I am sorry for everyones loss. I have a 17 year old that is on her way out & I am having a hard time deciding when the right time is going to be. One day I'm sure it's time and the next day she is doing better, this fucking sucks bad. After 38 years of owning dogs I can honestly say this is my last, I can't do this again. Sorry to rant, again my condolences to everyone who is hurting.

Thanks. On the one hand, I'm glad I got 12+ good years with a big, pure bred dog.
On the other, it still sucks. Explaining what happened to my 2 year old kid was one of the more difficult things I've ever had to do.

A couple of weeks ago we had to say goodbye to our 15 year old cocker spaniel, whom we'd had since she was a puppy. Now our 10 year old cockapoo, who we also got as a puppy, is doing stuff she never used to do, stuff the cocker did. Sitting in the front room and barking at nothing all day or waiting by the front door for the mailman all day. Doing hard u-turns walking on a leash to smell something we passed. Stopping every 5 feet to smell. It's not just people who miss their departed dog companions.

My heart always aches when I see this thread bump up.
So sorry for your loss og.

Or boy probably would have done the same thing if we hadn't introduced a puppy into our household several months before his half sister departed the planet a year ago last July. Having a pup in the house kept him and perhaps us buffered from the full extent of the loss (which we still feel).

My dog has a malignant tumor. Taking her in for surgery tomorrow morning, but it really is to prolong the comfort. Sad to watch them get old.

I don't trust people that don't love dogs. Interesting that Trump isn't a dog guy. I can only imagine the biggest shit head asshole of a dog if he did own a dog (once it assumed his personality) http://www.newsweek.com/does-donald-...d-he-do-692092

I'm sorry to hear that. And aren't they all. Nobody ever gets in this thread to say how glad they are to be rid of the stupid dog. That's the great thing. The sad thing is that they usually live a lot shorter than we do. OTOH I think I would rather outlive my dog than have my dog outlive me. At least I can understand it. As far as the dog knows, they're dpearted owner just abandoned them.

Sorry for your loss 365. They are all great dogs and with us for to short of a time.
Never in U.S. history has the public chosen leadership this malevolent. The moral clarity of their decision is crystalline, particularly knowing how Trump will regard his slim margin as a “mandate” to do his worst. We’ve learned something about America that we didn’t know, or perhaps didn’t believe, and it’ll forever color our individual judgments of who and what we are.

I think she'll rebound, but it's a reminder that the clock is ticking.

    How's she doing, F?

And to you guys who've lost your fur-buddies over the past couple months...vibes to you all. My Dad's GSD Fina crossed the bridge 2 weeks ago, and he's having a rough time with it. She became suddenly RIDDLED with cancer - lymphoma. It went from 0-60 overnight. He did all he could, and still thinks it wasn't enough. Of course he knows better, but it is always something that leaves you second guessing.

My pal Salomon is back on antibiotics. His lar-par is getting pretty bad. We don't want to put him through surgery at 13 1/2 though. We're just spoiling the shit out of him. Dad losing his pal really has me thinking about mine all the time. I know he's on borrowed time.

Our family dog who lives with my mom and sister has been slowly going downhill. Unfortunately she was hit by a car this weekend and at 13 yrs there wasn't much that could be done. She was a damn good dog and a big part of why I have my two heelers. RIP Sheila

Then you picked yourself a Dadda. Momma wasn't sure about him, but you were. And then we were three. Momma, Dadda, and Jakey. You barked and scared burglars away, and kept your kitties clean. But still you were always by our side.
Whenever something went wrong, you were the first one to let Momma know it was going to be ok. Even when you got sick, you just wanted to comfort her and lick her tears away. Forever by her side.

We said goodbye to you this week at home, and your Momma never left your side.

My wife reminded me today that this was the day that Jakey passed away last year.

We've been looking at shelter dogs lately, and we're going to pick one guy up tomorrow to see how he does with our cat.

My guy had lar para, We had the surgery at 10. Getting older and stiffer. Back legs are failing. Looks just like your guy.

Here he is at work. Barely makes the 3/10 of a mile walk to the office. Heartbreaking. I have lost two dogs in the last 12 months. Really sucks.
