Think it might be what I'm facing with my eleven and a half year old Golden.

He's scheduled for surgery to take off yet another mass, this time between his claws. But found two others one on another paw and one on his muzzle has just appeared.

He's been completely out of sorts today, lots of very strange behaviours and swings between bad mood and loving neediness.

My heart is breaking.

Most of the time it seems to be wolfy/husky type breeds. Its like you got a crazed hunter out there, they see the people and know its a dog...

But in their cruel head they are thinking "this is one of those husky types, I could probably get away with killing this"

Do you really believe that? I can't believe anyone would intentionally shoot a dog, They're just idiots or normal people that shouldn't have guns and made terrible mistakes.

Just gave my Maya extra hard hugs and told her how much I love her. Sorry to hear about everyone's pain. Dogs, their often one of the best friends you will ever have, so watching them go down hill or pass is really hard.

My old girl is 13. We had a nice time car camping last weekend; she was her old spunky self, even chasing gophers. She seemed stiff all week, and today she can barely stand; her back legs are very shaky. Other than a Pill Pocket, she won't eat. I gave her a Rimadyl; I hope it helps.

I think she'll rebound, but it's a reminder that the clock is ticking.

Odin hits 14 tomorrow. Not sure how much longer he's going to be around. Poor guy can barely get up and move any more.

Just left the vet; Loki had a TIA/stroke last night. She's happy as usual, but her eyes flicker and she can't walk a straight line. Gonna see if time will fix this...

Ghost is getting on. He turns 13 next month.

We really struggled with incontinence with him and Cassie (11 years old) this spring and summer, so we moved their beds into the garage. I feel guilty about it. He also started getting lost in our neighborhood this past year. It used to be that we could let him out and he would pee in our yard, take a stroll, and then come snooze on our deck. Now he seems confused and doesn't know where he is.

This winter will be a challenge. We can't just use the garage as a de facto kennel: it isn't heated. And he seems so stiff and disoriented that I don't know if he will even be able to go on a mellow ski with me. It's rough.

He's doped up to the eyeballs and on as limited activity as we can keep him.

Hopefully he can bounce back for a little while longer. Was a coin toss about doing it at all.

Not sure it was right choice.

My wife is an RN, so our vet gave us a couple bags of lactated ringer's; we just gave Loki a 500cc bolus. She hasn't peed or had any water in 40 hours.

Looking for a low profile recommendation - developing counter manners.


Oliver was/is prone to clipping counter food. Come home from a late evening and I'm eyeballing meat stuffed tortellini in a 24hr bolognese. Served up so piping hot that I went to put my house clothes on first. Return to the plate in the very same position wiped clean and ready for the dishwasher. Nearly broke an elbow trying to drop kick (whiff) the criminal. Banished to the outdoors and no breakfest.

Come home to a low profile mess and 2 trays of fresh brownies the next day. I cover them with clean dish towels and go dress down. Ollie downs half a tray of brownies on the oven top. Undisturbed mind you. Just the dish towel half neatly folded over so he could make his impression.

Don't want to bust the guys spirit. I have reached a tipping point. It's just a dog.

It was.

So many stories of aging dogs, it's like our lives are pretty well planned the next couple of yrs, like finishing a book. Stay positive about it.

Yesterday my daughter took off and left the front door open. 3 hrs later when I pulled up in my truck he was on the lawn, like a statue, probably never budged. I could tell his eye sight is shot, he didn't recognize me until Ingot out. 12 next week.
