I hope so. Astros are only 1-1/2 games behind CLE.

I grew up playing little league (well, Hot Stove League, actually) 35 miles SE of Cleveland, a big Indians fan, saw lots of games in the old muni stadium. The Indians were the worst team in baseball some of those years. Great to see them get to the WS last year. I would love to see the drought end.

Joe Table blowing Game 7 in '97 hurt bad, real bad. Gawd, it hurts typing that.

He's great. It's also just pretty hard to compare to the greats you heard about growing up.

And we are only stuck with ellsbury for like 17 more years.

If dropped into the modern league straight from the 40s - 80s, most of those greats would be middling MLB players.

One thing about Benintendi is that he's not just a ballplayer, he's an athlete. He was a great basketball player in HS and he's the fastest guy on a team with a few fast guys on it.

Not to mention, those old timers faced a totally different pitching game. Seeing a starting pitcher for a third time in a game is getting rarer and seeing a pitcher a fourth time is almost unheard of these days. There's only been 54 complete games this year. Santana and Kluber have 5. No one else has more than 2. Back in the 1950's, league leading pitchers were averaging around 16 complete games apiece per season. Today's top sluggers would have insane stats if they consistently batted a fourth time against tired arms like back in the olden days.

Twins with another big win. Back to a 2.0 game wild card lead. Three games at the Yankees. Feel a sweep coming against us ☹️. Win one and get out of there. Santana and Berrios going in the first two games. Maybe a chance.

Are randy Johnson and Javier Vazquez still on the payroll? Kevin Brown?

Fuck yes that still hurts. Last year didn't hurt that bad at all given what they did with such a damaged staff and lineup. The chemistry, and talent, is off the charts with this team, hope so badly they can reach the top of the mountain this year.

This guy has no doubt neglected to watch this two-faced season, but in general I agree:

Viscous foul ball drills a little girl today at the Yankees / Twins game. I'd bet more discussions about increased net discussion coming again. No chance here even if you were paying attention. Vibes to her.

I saw a game a few weeks ago from behind the net, I don't think I noticed the net or thought about it once all night. That they don't extend further is just cheapness by the teams imo. People have shown they will pay good money for seats behind the screen.

On our trip to Pittsburgh this year we encountered screening all the way to the end of the dugout...

I think there are several more stadiums like this now.

Been to a few Twins games this year. Seems like they had more netting down the baselines at the end of last year, but less this year. Baseball, more than any sport needs nets they as so few people pay attention to the game. A month ago a HR ball knocked a girl out in left field 10 feet from me. Amazing how many people never saw it coming or knew what happened.

I go to a lot of Wild games. Have our seats on the lower level end. Nets are very encompassing in hockey. Hardly know they are there anymore. When a puck does rip into the net, I think to myself every now and then I'm glad they are there.

I think that more nets would be good, but they do hurt visibility if you are back a dozen or two rows. They don't defocus the way they do if you are closer.

I also enjoy people diving out of the way when a ball comes straight back into the net.

That one dude a few years back that got out of the way of the ball instead of protecting his girl was amusing. Astros game maybe...and yeah, he made SportsCenter.

NORMAN, OK—Watching the 11-year-old play shortstop for his Little League team, local father Mark Garrett reported Wednesday that he thinks his son, Nathan, has what it takes to become an embittered alcoholic journeyman in the minor leagues. “If he keeps working hard every day, I know Nathan has the talent to spend a few years bouncing around farm system teams while gradually developing a serious drinking problem,” said Garrett, adding that his son clearly has the arm strength and raw athleticism to spend half a decade growing increasingly bitter and self-destructive as he plays in front of only a few hundred spectators every game. “There’s no doubt in my mind that he could get all the way to Triple-A, screw up his shoulder, and drink away the rest of his life while resenting every choice he ever made. I just need to stay on top of him to make sure he gets there.” Garrett added that with enough determination, his son might eventually even grow estranged from his family before he turns 30.

The greatest leadoff hitter of all time. Imo the best player period.

Rickey is under-appreciated in that discussion.

Well, in Rickey's head, he was the greatest player.

    Haha....

I think it's so weird for a grown man to ask for pictures with these athletes... let them have a life, for fuck's sake.

Many of them like adulation of the fans. Mario Andretti is like that. He'll pose for photos without even asking. Loves the fans.
