On another note, I heard a home owner in Idaho Springs put up a sign saying Soda Creek Rd. was closed, successfully deterring a parade of cars trying to take Squaw Pass to Little Bear during an accident closure on 70 this afternoon. Would love to be able to claim that one, but it wasn't me. But I'm inspired - I have a culvert to install below the house... Might start on that on Monday...

    Holy. Fuck. Bigly.

I'm right there with you.... I'm counting the days until I get the fuck out of the Front Range. The good thing is, of course, that all these extra people are creating a nice little market for my house when I decide to sell.

I would have expected more of the traffic to be Friday night...

Question: did you have Google maps running or just checked it before you left? I generally trust it to make navigation decisions if I leave it navigating. And who knows, maybe the way you went WAS an hour faster than 70, lol.

Could have gone to Jackson instead. That's usually what I do if I drive anywhere for the 4th weekend.

Checked before leaving and multiple times during the drive. Was running the whole time.

I've recently started to GTFO of Summit for all major holidays. It is pretty rad.

Yesterday was Canada's 150th Canada Day... time to bike!

You should be fine heading down here tomorrow. Just be careful once you get here, every touron from AZ, NM, OK, TX and a significant number from the FR are here and they are in full out idiot mode. God help the assholes that try to drive back on Tuesday...

Staycation this weekend in Summit. Better to stay where you know how to avoid the crowds vs being a gaper in someone else's town. Not planning on driving at all.

Lucky you. Just drive from Frisco to Breck. Disaster. "Oh wait turn here" and they cut across three lanes of traffic.

Saw a friend who drives a delivery truck for a living so I called him to say hi. He was giving up half way through the day and going home.

In all seriousness, is it worth checking out the Firecracker 50 in Breck tomorrow? Is getting close to town at 8:30am a complete shitshow?

it is what it is, to think that no one was around all may and now it's wall to wall tourons in american flag shirts eating more sugar than usual trying edibles and swilling 8 dollar beers having a memorable fourth of july you can't deny that

lucky me I'm sitting at home on a dead end street and it's silent a ten minute walk through the woods and i'd be in the middle of the swamp, debating if I want to go meet friends or not for dinner and beers

it'll be a mess but the time of your life............. try to park on french street or the new community center, carter park is the place to be after the start, it's all festive and fun unless your a misanthrope like me

    OFFICIAL I70 BITCH THREAD....

Well, I answered my own question: got to Breck at 8:30, no issues parking, caught the Firecracker 50 start and enjoyed the craziness all over town and at Carter Park. What a great day!! Good luck to those on I70 <vibes>

Went backpacking in CO this weekend. A bit of traffic on Friday late afternoon getting to Hwy 6, then a bit more from the bottom of Floyd to Hwy 40, but smooth sailing after that. Pepe Osaka's was strangely very quiet for Friday primetime.

Saw a couple dozen people in the backcountry Sat -> Tue.

Drove home Tue late afternoon - hit I-70 around 5pm... no slowdowns at all. 1h20m from Winter Park -> home.

I live 1.5 miles from the top of Little Bear & Squaw Pass, it seems as if our little dirt road is no longer the secret it used to be. Fortunately there are a few neighbors up here who will put out their own signs to deter folks from using our road (or send them down Old Little Bear). I've got no problem with the road being used, I object to the assholes who drive 40 on the dirt roads kicking up a huge dust cloud behind them.

Kevo couldn't find a traffic free commute if it fell out of the sky, landed on his face and started to wiggle.
Crowds were minimal at Black Canyon, first come camping spots were available every day at South Rim. Easy as pie.

What can I say, national park campgrounds are super secret locales.
I'll keep the backwoods camp sites on a "need to know" basis.
