me and some buddies took one of those over Monarch Pass to Butte around 1991 when the pass was closed (we were young, and nothing was going to stop us from the pow). We made it til' around 300m from the house in CB and had to walk the rest of the way LOL
Character building trip....
I was a big fan of this review

I'm thinking about buying an awd sportwagen with a stick, any thoughts?
Brother in law just bought a new A4 Avant (Allroad) after cross shopping it seriously with the VW Alltrek stick. Then my sister totaled it this weekend (distracted driver texting broadsided her). After seeing how she was able to walk away without a scratch after it 360'ing from a dead stop I'm a fan of the Audi's safety. FWIW.

Seems like a good candidate for a car that won't get many miles on it, sometimes has to be driven in snow, has to go into the city sometimes, and has to cart older not-so-limber dogs around. And it could be fun with the stick and the turbo. Am I wrong on any of that?
I'm pretty confident in VW safety, although it's a small car and physics does rule. They're not unsafe. I'm an Audi fan as you know but if this car gets 5000 miles a year on it I'll be amazed. Tired of being somewhere else and trying to get an old vehicle repaired, something cheapish and new seems to be the ticket. Stick and awd and fun are bonuses.
Open to suggestions.
A3 and Golf are the same car.
Well maybe I'm the faggot America
I'm not a part of a redneck agenda
Yeah. The new A3 and Golf are built on the MQB platform.
I just picked up a 2015 TDI Golf wagon. Love it.
Was tempted to wait for the manual 4-motion version but the deal on the TDI was hard to pass up.
Definitely take one for a spin. If you want more power getting a tune on the 1.8T is reasonably cheap.
My impression of the Mk7 Golf is that they feel and drive like a more expensive car.
Never in U.S. history has the public chosen leadership this malevolent. The moral clarity of their decision is crystalline, particularly knowing how Trump will regard his slim margin as a “mandate” to do his worst. We’ve learned something about America that we didn’t know, or perhaps didn’t believe, and it’ll forever color our individual judgments of who and what we are.
Ice's post reminded me that the Alltrack is recently available with manual 6 speed. My earlier Alltrack examination at a dealer left me thinking it just doesn't have enough headroom, but maybe the manual helps raise the mpg to something more respectable and the fun to drive factor might outweigh the cramped interior.
Also thinking of test driving the GLA 2.0T. Honest 8" clearance, similar to my crosstrek, and I haven't heard any reliability issues with the baby merc.
Related question---how does adaptive cruise control work with a stick shift? Does it beep and turn off if engine revs get too low?

Fukt: a very small amount of snow.
sold the old 2004 Jetta wagon last week, lotta trips in that rig
new owner was happy to get it
I am now wagonless
watch out for snakes
Why do all the go-fast wagons only come with black interiors?
When I'm shopping for a six figure family hauler along with a bespoke V8 I would like some lighter, more bright feeling interior options.
Who do I complain to in Stuttgart about this?
I still call it The Jake.
Bmills, there are some nice interiors in this bunch: https://gearheads.org/the-20-fastest...to-know-about/
There's a Sbarro wagon!! I nominate this as the new TGR AudiRS6AWD6MT, forever known as the top of the pyramid.
And I actually think that stang wagon isn't half bad - the volvo estate concept bit some lines from it. And the DB6 is amazing.
