Yeah - imagine July 4th weekend, every weekend. It could easily become that bad.

Just to play devil's advocate: why is growth so bad in certain places? I like there's more in Summit than say, Frasier/WP. That town is booorrring.

I quite like Winter Park, it has everything I need and nothing I don't. But of course YMMV.

Yeah, it can get a lot worse, but should that be the goal?

1242 is dead. Guess the sales tax allegedly polling better didn't matter.

lost from what? that small town feel that maybe golden or morrison had at one time?

yeah summit county is the disneyland of skiing, total shit show, suburb of denver, I won't deny that at all

but it's been good to me, I've been lucky to make an ok living, live here for twenty something years, tax dollars are collected and they are returned to me in a couple different ways (resources, trail construction, and pay checks) so I benefit greatly

I'm pretty much over summit county bashing, it just gets old, even people who have lived here ten years, new commer retirees, and people who just got here complain about too many people, over development, it's busy, on and on, I usually just give them a list of nice little colorado mountain towns you can escape to and not have to worry about growth, total shit show, front range attitudes, and the general gaper stupidity you have to deal with day in and out, but then they balk at living in a place like Lake City, that's everyone's fantasy but living that far out in the middle of nowhere, most people can't handle it, they need shopping, stimulation, jobs, organized activities like lift served skiing, movies, and lots of restaurants and balling brew pubs

It's almost may, everyone has left, it's a small town again, and will be for a couple weeks, I love this time of year

everyone hates taxes, but what are we suppose to do? I pay thousands of dollars in taxes a month and it sucks balls, but we need streets

Late April is a great time in Breck, the crepe line is only 10 minutes this time of year!

I'm only sympathetic to the "it's too busy" approach when we're talking about public property. Ex. RMNP & all the issues the east side seems to experience from Memorial to Labor Day. It's clear that area is getting "overloved", and I'm not sure how you combat it, but ski town restaurants, lifts, breweries, T-shirt shops being overcrowded? Not shedding many tears. Ski lifts have the option of raising prices to cut the numbers down, but they haven't gotten to that point.

That's a scary thought in the non-pass dept. Wonder how high the Epic Pass will be in 10 years. $1500 or top out at $999?

Are you guys all too young to remember the $900 "Summit Pass"?

Yep, I bought Vail passes back then because it was cheaper as a student. I wish VR would sell ABasin and let them be solo then buy Copper mtn. Never happen though.

Or perhaps they go to the a la carte route. Keystone is a $200 pass, add Breckenridge for another $250, Vail is a $600 add on, etc. etc.

Vail SP were $1500 when I first got here IIRC. Got the merchant pass after a season with the regular pass (Summit +10) until epic came out. If I am going to live here, I am going to shell out the money somehow someway. Hard to drive by perfectly good mountains to go somewhere cheaper. That's just me. Not that I don't want to ski other places, but on the day-to-day skiing, I stay in my yard.

All the people come up in the winter and summer to use public land, including ski areas.

VR doesn't own A Basin. There is an agreement that allows them to be part of VR's passes.

Considering what you can get now, the merchant pass was really expensive and only included Vail and the Beav and had holiday blackout dates. IIRC $700+ for 04-05 season.

But it was cheaper than season pass at the time. V & BC comprise 95% of my skiing anyway.

Perhaps I should be specific and state that I'm excluding the places with hundreds of millions of infrastructure development. Too busy at Keystone, Breck or Vail for their taste? Double the price across the board and make it a bit more elitist, for better or worse. Problem solved.

Now, if you want to talk about some trails getting overused, trailhead lots being at capacity, full campsites, backcountry zones getting tracked out, blah blah blah, I'm with you there, but you can't build more mountains, and you certainly can't make Wal-mart sized lots everywhere. It's not like you can charge $250 a year to access Eagles Nest or Indian Peaks. Tough one to figure out.

We're no better than anyone else on the road, trail or ski lift, everyone's just trying to have a good time.
