That road looks busy enough with essentially no shoulder that no way I would ride that frequently. I'm smart enough to know that this kind of shit would happen for sure. I commute daily by bike but bikes in no shape or form have the same rights as a car. Yes, we should. But, that's just not how the world works. Truck guy is a clown, but the bikers can't be that surprised by this shit at all.

I probably would have lost it and kicked the living shit out of that guy while his hands were still in his pockets. He stopped and stood there like that's what he wanted so I probably would have obliged.

C'mon ML, what do you mean what were they doing out there? It's a simple country road that actually looks like a pretty nice place to go for a ride not some place that bikes don't belong. It's wide open with what looks like pretty good visibility. It's just like most roads in this country with no shoulder but it does have what looks like an 11 or 12 foot wide lane so there's plenty of room. Whether it was easy for the driver to slow down or not it is his responsibility to do so and no the rider should not have been any closer to the edge of the pavement putting herself at risk of clipping a broken piece of pavement and falling or having to swerve further into the traffic lane.

This is why I gave up road riding a long time ago and don't think I'll go back to it. Sad...

I mean really, why were they out there?
Can't tell from the video if that trailer was sitting behind them for a while waiting to pass or not. If I were riding that road and there was someone in a motor vehicle trailing me unwilling or unable to pass I would get off the road and let them by. Common sense, common courtesy, and self preservation. Obviously if the truck just sped up to them and passed right away there was nothing they could do about it.

I think simple physics (no way that guy can sit waiting, then gun it up to 55 mph) says that he wasn't waiting behind the cyclists for any period of time.

Parts of coastal northern California (I'm pretty sure this is highway 1 up around Mendocino) are quiet enough that they hold bike races on the highway (see the new Fishrock gravel/pavement adventure ride coming in March: https://www.bikemonkey.net/). Trailer bro is just an aggro asshole.

    most likely.
Re the coast highway--windy and hilly enough that the problem is for the cyclists to pass the RV's, not vice versa.

The only reason that trailer dude should be standing there, waiting for them, is to apologize for coming so close to them. Otherwise he is the douche that he is.

People who don't ride road bikes and are asshole rednecks simply look at lycra clad cyclists and get pissed off. It's all about economic class and position.

It's the same thing that happens when that redneck sees an expensive car, there's not much an asshole redneck can do to express his anger at the situation, (that exists in his mind), also, the car is typically not infringing on him in any way. Still, if I pass an Eastern WA asshole redneck, they will often flash their brights, give me the finger, or as one guy did last weekend, come into the oncoming lane as I passed.

So, now you have a redneck asshole seeing a lycra clad cyclist as a visual representation of all that's wrong with his life and society in general. He comes up on a cyclist, already pissed, and now he has to slow down for a cyclist who ISN'T EVEN PAYING ROAD TAXES. Why the fuck is that guy not at work!!! Fucking get a job asshole!!!!

Of course there was that one time he saw some cyclists riding 2 abreast, or not stopping at a stop sign, etc. so that justifies his rage.

God, this is the shittiest thread on TGR. 36 pages of debate over who owns the road, and not a single suggestion on how to improve the situation.

And I'm throwing myself back into the bike commute as I'm building an ebike for my 12 mile commute each way, and Sacramento drivers are scary enough from the inside of a car.

Well one thing, never get pissed at any situation. The vehicle always wins. Even in that video where the trailer redneck almost sideswipes his partner, he should have been calm and collected, and just asked the redneck what was the matter.

what the hell do you expect? be careful and don't ride like a douche - you could die. the driver that hit you will be fucked, but you could be dead. that is basically what the sane folks are trying to add

Yup, a bunch of wannabe skier wankers all complaining behind their computer screens about bikes on the road, people trying to do something fun to stay in shape. Yeah, no doubt two tons of steel wins every time against 200 lbs of meat. I took plenty of physics, but its pretty simple to know that. Its still a shit thread :P

Half-right: you could be dead, but it's pretty damn rare the driver will be fucked because "I didn't see him, officer." Way too many stories like this

Yeah, if alcohol/drugs aren't involved drivers are not typically charged, let alone serve time. A friend of a friend was hit and killed on an empty road in southern Utah. The driver claimed he was blinded by the sun and didn't see him, while driving west at 9:00 am. No charges.

You may be the most uptight TGR douche right now, and yes, this also may be a the worst TGR thread right now. I feel dirty posting here but I can't stop.

And before you start ringing your hands FKD, just calm down. I didn't mean whatever you are going to conclude.

almost 7 times as many pedestrians are killed in crashes with motor vehicles than bicyclists (in crashes with motor vehicles) every year.

And on a per trip basis cyclists are 155% as likely to die as pedestrians. But let's be clear: these numbers should not be considered to have any meaningful significance in the critically important quest to determine who is a douche and why.

Obviously, "who" is always people who are not me; but why, Why are they such douches?!? Only a thread on TGR can find the answer.

    .
Except that it's been scientifically proven that drivers of expensive cars are the rudest. (Some say BMW, around here I say Lexus SUV). For the record I drive a 2005 Forester and am not a redneck although I listen to redneck music (ok hippy redneck music).

What a waste the millions of taxpayer dollars spent on thousands of miles of bike paths when everyone insists on riding on roads with no shoulders.

Those thousands of miles are nowhere around here.
