There's a line of signs in the trees about where his bottom line is. Sledders need to know these things, skiers don't. Sounds like you don't. If he's saying there are tracks literally right behind a closure sign, that's a different issue and some dumbass needs a dope slap. But his map has all but maybe one of his lines in the small area open to sleds up there.

BG, that's all open. Your bottom line is about where the boundary is, maybe a little behind it. The fun thing is that you can go further left, further right, further north, or cross the street to the south and it's not an issue. In 'normal' snow years not a lot of people ride those zones but lately..........yeah, that.
Thanks for clarifying. I don't care that much I was just curious where the boundaries were so I know where I need to go.

The ridge with the line of signs is well east of the confluence of Ophir Creek.

I would say the lower three lines are definitely suspect. The rest are probably OK.

    That looks right.

Map is shitty, but zoom in on the second page here...

In other news, anybody have any decent-shape 12-14 DIN bindings lying around that they want to sell for $100 or less? PM me if so.

Powdork and I get together once a year and have a knife fight over it. Because this shit is fo real. It's taking such a toll on me personally, I'm headed off to the Wasatches for a vacation.
ummmm, i think that's 'wasatchbitchez for a vacation'

and to powpig's query. there's quite a few 5k+ descents in the sierrases. some of which drop right out of our resorts. and they're in and safe more often than those in the rockieses

Amen TahoeJ. Ch 23 last Wednesday. Just over a six minute ride to 1100 vert feet of wind buff magic. Knocking out 14 laps in a couple hours did not suck. As for overrated vertical, Whistler/Blackcomb looks impressive with over 5000 ft. Problem is, at least the times I've been there, the bottom 2000 are in the fog and rain. Only place I've ever down loaded to avoid being soaked.

^^ Can't wait to get out to Mammoth and ride that chair again. Wasn't open quite yet when I was there a few weeks ago.

Absolutely. With the tunnel nearby that can take you to the other side, it gives you about 80% of access as the tram and takes half as long to get up there or maybe less when you account for waiting time.

Anyway, IMO, only gapers, marketing people and ski magazine editors talk about total vertical at a ski resort like it's some big deal. Unless you're talking about Chamonix or some place like that.

    Looks sweet. ^^^

As for vert, I'd be stoked if KW ran for another 500'. I like 2000' descents. They seem about perfect.

OTOH, I really enjoy lapping 6/10 at KW on the right days, so I'm not complaining.

As for WB and the such, the vert there just allows you to find the right conditions. I've rarely used more than 2k worth of lifts once I get up the mountain. Although, I have wondered how long of a run it would be from the top for a beginner with those green circles winding all the way from peak to base.

Chair 23 at Mammy is great, but unless conditions are prime, I get a little bored as IMO all the runs off the front of it are very similar.

Sublette and Thunder at JHMR are pretty awesome and nicely varied. And my legs are plenty tired when I get on the lift.

As for those long runs in the Sierra, most are to our south and along the east side. Correct? I don't know much about the mountains to the north of Tahoe.

You may say Sierra Nevadas. You may not say Sierras. But I may.

Plus, conditions are more consistent over a 1500' drop than a 4000' one.

And it's not like, at my age, I'm skiing 4000' without a rest. Might as well take that rest on the chair.

No but if you end up in South Lake Tahoe at some point they have the low volume Dynafit ones in stock at the powder house. I have last years XT without the Dynafits for my resort/side country boot and never had a boot fit my foot so good. Bobby is a very good boot fitter there also.

The low volume Langes did not fit my feet although they would have ordered the higher volume model, ended up with with the 99 last Cochise 130 for my new Dynafit boot, could not stuff my foot in last years version

Kirkwood was great this past Tues and Wed...those wet storms definitely covered the mountain. Had a blast roaming around but highlights were Thunder Saddle (Bogie's slide etc) had cut up pow and All the Way on the Wall was $$$$. Of course, the Fingers were in their early season radical form and the groomers were fast...so fun. However, you will find some firm areas on some of the steeper aspects and on the lower part of the mountain. I also heard they may start winching Zachs and Sentinel soon.

    Mammy Vert

We have only been to Mammy once when everything was open.
(Usually we are doing the Spring Thing).

I remember once starting from top of Dave's, made a wrong turn around Mt Lincoln (?) and ended up at Eagle Lodge (I think). Looking back up to top of Dave's, it looked like a long way away...

No just making the rounds taking photos today of coverage on the local peaks pre storm, making a list and checking it twice ;-)
