^Bwwaaaaaa!
^Bwwaaaaaa!
We live in Sandy UT from mid November through April, not trying hard at all.
Was going to mount my own fucking new skis. Had the template and was ready to start a dry run on a 2x4. But then remembered I could get a discount from my local shop on mounting my new skis since I bought boots from them last spring. Oh well, maybe next time I'll do it myself.
Anyone have an extra rubber footing for a Salomon 900 wide jig? I mounted my last skis by taking off all the other 3 feet but rather not do that again.
Holy-moly, there's a brag thread about mounting your own f'n skis!?
Damn. Guess I need to hop on in here!
Two on Sunday.
Mounted up some Salomon Z12 demo bindings on a pair of Line Influence 115's - the template was hard to find, or I'm a lousy searcher. But it was out there on PowderGuides. [Their paper centering strip is the _bomb_, BTW I'll be printing one for just that, for any subsequent mounts.]
Too cheap to buy a step down bit, so used a straight bit with tape as a collar. [BTW, having a cheap pair of calipers, even from Harbor Freight is also the bomb.]
The LI's have a thin sheet of metal, so pretty easy.
There's a small error on the PG template for the Salomon Z12 demos though. One set of holes is labelled as 30mm on the template, but is only 28mm wide in actuality. [And yes, I'm sure it was scaled properly. It looks like whoever did the template copied a set of holes from the heel piece that *are* 28mm wide, and pasted them into the toe without adjusting the width to 30mm. Glad I caught that one with a 2x4 mount, first.]
---
Next up was a pair of Blizzard Bodacious' - the 2013-2014 version with the kinda garish print. [I like the new green gradient one better, but I think I'll like the old ski construction better. And function wins over look every time here.] The metal on this ski is a LOT thicker, and pushing through it would make punching through the rest of the ski super easy. Stop collar would have been better, but my tape wrap, with multiple rounds worked nicely.]
The bindings were the Tyrolia Attack 13 demos. [Yeah, I like demo bindings. I'm always loaning skis out, and I don't need high DIN settings. So demo's work out great for me. Happy with pretty much anything I've used but like the Tyrolia's, and that design, a lot.]
But there's no template to be found. I had the bindings in hand [Thanks @Caucasian Asian!] so I used my calipers to measure the toe piece and heel piece settings. But I had to get measurements for the boot center and distance between the heel-and-toe from someone with a plastic Tyrolia template.
I don't have CAD, but Illustrator works reasonably enough to crank out a template. [Yeah, what a hack solution, eh!]
Three test mounts and a few mm of adjustments, I finalized the template and cranked it out on my Blizzards. Mount went pretty nicely, if I do say so myself.
And while I'm at risk of breaking my own arm, patting myself on the back, I put the template up here for anyone else to use, should you want to mount up a pair of Attack 13 demos too.
All in all, a nice few hours on a Sunday.
I'm ready for the snow to fly! [Man, am I ever ready...]

How about posting up some pics, JONG. We don't want to read a damn novel without the porn to go with it. Nobody reads Playboy for the articles.
Nobody reads Playboy for the articles...
Now, Penthouse, on the other hand...
Ok, ok. Sheesh. I gotta take pics to brag? That seems like verging on too much work! Illustrator, now photoshop too? WTF?
No more work than getting the goddam text color right ......
Photoshop would probably be easier, but as poorly skilled as I am, it would probably take longer.
A pic of the mounted skis, and the tools that make it a lot easier.
Self-administered to the forehead? Or in some other fashion?
Newbie first try, seemed to turn out OK. Left rear piece wouldn't get entirely flush with the ski, <1mm gap in the center. Other than that, just used the paper-folded-in-half technique to find center and used the binders and boots as a template. Ton of useful information in this thread, only cost $8 in drill bits and glue.

Yup, bust out the razor blade
Picked up some Rossi MaxFlex 15s. They've got a connector bar between heel and toe. This adjust in increments (like 308-325) etc. So I don't think I can just slap the PX racing tmeplate on and drill away.
My thinking is I drill the toe piece based on my BSL using the PX racing template. Screw in the toe, line everything up, mark the heel piece and then drill. Sound thinking?
Never mind, I should just go drink more beer and mount on a fucking 2x4 like an idiot. Need more beer.

Just snagged some Spatulas off eBay (stoked!!) - any tips on mounting these sum bitches other than using fresh, sharp bits? I've heard/read these can be a bitch to mount.
Any reason to not use hardwood plugs to fill the existing holes?
Thanks
Edit: answered my own question with some digging. For any of you other mags who happen to be drilling Spats, here's some info http://www.tetongravity.com/forums/s...ing-experience

You should just send them to me
I didn't believe in reincarnation when I was your age either.
PSA: Make sure your buddy has all the screws for the bindings you are mounting before you start. Else you go to screw in the last toe piece, on your third mount of the night and about 12th beer, and you get pissed that your drunken-mount mastery can not be documented because the one screw he lost (front toe on STH16) is tough to find a replacement for in your kit.
