Stripped? Any old receiver is fine. I have an anderson lower (who probably makes 90% of all the other lowers for all the companies) stuck in my safe. If I were you, I'd get a quality name brand basic AR15 or AK47. My local gun stores have Smith and Wesson M&P15s and Ruger AR556's for around $600. Century RAS47s with Magpul Zhukov furniture are around $700. Budget another $150 to buy 10 - 12 magazines...

Also, if you have a Pistol, I'd pick up a few extra magazines and ammo for it as well. Things are going to get tight soon.

Stay the fuck away from anything Century makes!!!!!! Everything they make is complete junk. They do import stuff and as long as they only do 922r compliant thing its ok.

Although the the 100% USA DDI AK shows promise but will not bee availible until late this year if at all.

Many many good AR lowers to go with, I have had good luck with Colt, Bushmaster, DPMS, PSA and others. Buy a stripped lower and complete kit and learn how to build it yoself. That way when you have a problem you can at least attempt to fix it as you know your way around.

I have purchased the last of the ammo I will get for some time and several AK kits to build up at a later date as well as complete rifles and spare parts for most everything.

Btw, re: extraction issues on newer 870's, I mentioned it to a buddy who is a gunsmith and he said that in his experience most of the issues have to do with poor finish of the chamber and can usually be resolved with a quick chamber polish. YMMV.

Good to know. I'll look into that. I keep the gun clean so I doubt that is the problem. Have to keep them clean here on the coast or they just start rusting.

Good to know but also depressing about 870s. I have not been following anything remotely related and wanted to pick one up for a while based on how good they used to be. Just want a basic pump that is reliable as fuck and no frills. Two things would make it even better. 20ga and or ghost ring sights. I don't want any of that stupid goofy shit people add. The ability to shoot short shells would be a plus.

There are 9,000 nonmilitary shooting ranges and a lot of military ones in the United States. Some 60,000 metric tons of lead are expended by shooting (A metric ton or "long ton" is 2,200 lbs.). "So, there is lead shot and bullets everywhere," Rimstidt said.
"We were invited by the U.S. Forest Service to look at the shooting range in the National Forest near Blacksburg."
The researchers'' survey found 11 metric tons of shot in the shotgun range and 12 metric tons of lead bullets in the rifle range. "These ranges are 10 years old. Most of the lead shot has accumulated on about four or five acres. Some shots have been into the woods, which cover hundreds of acres," Rimstidt said.
Professor James Craig, now retired, and Rimstidt looked first at lead corrosion and whether lead is leaching into the water table or streams. "Lead metal is unstable when it is in contact with air and water. It corrodes and forms hydrocerrussite, the white coating seen on old bullets in museums. That slows corrosion," Rimstidt said.
However some lead escapes, he said. "But we learned that it is absorbed in the top few inches of soil and does not migrate beyond that," Rimstidt said. "Lead is not very mobile. It does not wash away in surface or ground water."

Rimstidt''s conclusion is that shooting on controlled ranges reduces the overall risk to the public from lead in the environment.

The arm brace sort of works. For me with long arms its difficult at best. Its a way around sbr stamp. Its good for cqb or a truck gun.

Personally i prefer a good folder rig with a legal barrel or a full on pistol.

IMO, SBR's are also nice as a host for a suppressor while still maintaining a manageable oal, like the one in LW's pic. 16" bbl + ~7" of suppressor brings the upper to bench gun length and not as suitable for close quarters applications. With a 10.5" bbl +~7" of suppressor and you're only 1" longer than a standard 16.5" barrel.

Yes, because in its infinite wisdom, the state of Washington bans/unbans sbrs every few years, but pistols are no big deal. .300 Blackout is meant to be shot from a short barrel.

Its definitely not a stock but it's also not a bare buffer tube, and it's way less hassle than an sbr. Its not the money, it's the paperwork hassle. There is easily $20,000 worth of guns in my last picture. That SCAR17 (green rifle in back) alone is worth $7000 with all the stuff it has.

Out in the woods? The spot we go has had constant shooting for a long long time, probably for the last 50 years. Some of the local tweakers come up with rakes and sort through the dirt for lead to sell to recycling companies. We always bring garbage bags and haul out any trash we can that inconsiderate assholes shoot up and leave behind. We only shoot paper or ar500 steel targets.

Thanks. We have a pit out in the woods that some 'inconsiderate assholes' leave all kinds of garbage and shells behind. It looks like a dump these days. One of the few wooded areas left within the urban sprawl for people to hunt and just get outside.

I know this has been answered a few times Im sure, but Im doing another AR15 build and am trying to go with a bit of a nicer build this time...that said, whats the collective's thoughts on trigger setups in the $100 range? Would love a break around 3.5lbs, nice, smooth and crisp. Single stage I think would work for me. Whats the advantages to a drop in setup? Ive seen Geissele GL2s/SSAs on decent sales, about $30 off the MSRP, worth the money? Lots of people saying you may end up with one of those one day anyways. Buy once, cry once?
