I have an 870 Magnum and 870 Security and it regularly happens on both of them. Frequent occurrence at my local trap club too. Too bad because the old ones are amazingly reliable. Bought a Benelli Nova and had a much better experience. Didn't fit as well as the 870, but functioned flawlessly.

That's a bummer. Sounds like quality control at Remmington has gone to shit. Luckily mine are the older models and run flawlessly.

Got my 870 when I was 13. Guessing it is a pre 98 model because in all the years I've had it, I've only had a problem once with jamming. It was the shells and not the gun. My dad and brother's 870's are shit. Same extraction issues lws mentioned. My gun had seen the bottom of the river a handful of times too. Dependable ass gun. Guess I got lucky.

Bought an 870 last fall, first one had fucked up barrel threading, returned it for a better one. Picked it up for right around 300$ with rebate.

I liked the Stoeger 3000 series for a cheap auto, but the Condor I shot sucked compared to the CZ and ATI's my buddy's have in the same price range.

I have also experienced the extraction issues with my 870. I bought it a couple years ago. It has only happened at the trap club, so maybe it is because it's hotter than normal.

870 ain't no trap gun, as I was told by an old timer. At this point I can't say I argue that, but I like to shoot what Im going to use in the brush

You guys are both right. I prefer a break action shotgun for trap, but being accurate with the gun you hunt with is important too.

I shoot trap with this heavy ass 101, but I love it & can't seem to miss with it:

Btw, re: extraction issues on newer 870's, I mentioned it to a buddy who is a gunsmith and he said that in his experience most of the issues have to do with poor finish of the chamber and can usually be resolved with a quick chamber polish. YMMV.

Fun stuff, scotty. Waiting for my stamp to come back for one of these AOW's a local smith is building in 300BLK (it's neither a pistol or a short barreled rifle):

I was gonna say the only time I've ever had an issue is if I let my 870 get dirty as hell.
Perhaps you'd be more comfortable on epicski or Paula's Ski Lovers, AltaNancy.

I used to go to range here(it's so close), but there are a lot of weirdos and unsafe people using it. There is a great guy who shoots midweek. He's a rimfire competition shooter. He's got some nice target .22s all iron sights. He's putting ten shots into a quarter at 50 yds. He turned me onto match .22 lr. That stuff is accurate as hell even out of my stock 10/22.

Aaron, is your range not monitored? Is there no RO? There is a range close ish to me that is for long range shooting. I went there once. No RO. Scary as fuck. I shot one set of three and left. It really sucks since its out only true LR course.

Not always, sometimes on weekends, I think. It's a little better now, you have to take a safety course to join. It used to be you walked into the local gun shop and bought a $37 membership and got your pass key. It's a great deal really but it allowed any buffoon to shoot there.
Kind of a shame it's a nice range, only out to 300m but it has informal rifle/pistol range to 100m, longer range, shot gun range, dedicated indoor and outdoor pistol ranges. I think they just added a trap range.

I just checked and they've upped it to $75 annually, including tax. You now have to pay and additional $35 annually to use the indoor range. Still a bargain, it's a nice facility. I last renewed 5 years ago. Quit going because of weirdos, I don't like people muzzle sweeping me or picking my gun up off the bench when I'm doing something else.

    GUNS!!!!!!!!

Sounds like a cool set up. Really surprised there isn't a stationed RO. Maybe suggest upping the fees to help pay for one.

You got in before me. Never mind. That's all fucked up shit. DON'T touch my gun without my approval.

That range is now RO'd, and you have to take a safety class. I heard it's really safe now.

I've been going to the East Wenatchee range. It's not RO'd. Definitely some dumb shit happens there from time to time, but if you stay out of the covered pistol range and avoid the range in general around hunting season I've not had any issues. Most of the issue is the twice a year "gotta zero my 30.06" crowd. I go there to shoot longerish range rifles.

Either way I prefer going to my spots on NF land over any organized range. Way nicer experience. Plus for pistols now I've got my home range. Gives me a chance to shoot a few rounds on a weekly basis to stay sharp.
