Wish I had my puffy sitting poolside during my son's lesson this evening in sc. Crisp. Tomorrow morning should be chilly down here.

Try to get a job with a mountain this winter. Hoping for a little input. What mountain would be better to work at: NorthStar, Vail or Winter Park? Also which job would you prefer: Adult Snowboard Instructor or Mountain Safety Attendant? Any advice is much appreciated!

Skied a couple of short laps today. Pretty good. Didn't hit anything and the snow skied well. Only reason i mention it is we made the exact same observation. Had one very noticeable instance of "woomphing" in a ridge top convexity that was seeing heavy wind loading. Mellow slope and no cracking observed in the wind slab so not threatening in this instance. Winds were moving a fair amount of snow around on the ridge today so something to keep an eye on going forward as there is a bit of "upside down" snow in the particular zone we skied today.

I did a late afternoon lap on and around Stagecoach at Heavenly. It's filled in pretty well in some areas, not so well in others. Only one rock scrape.

Snow's cementy, but I'm expecting different tomorrow. And it was feeling slabby in places, snow cracking & collapsing into my track, that sort of thing.

As in, get paid to attend safety meetings? Man, ski resort jobs have come a long way.

Looks like Rose is under the gun right now. Just saw this NWS update.

CURRENTLY OUR WINTER SYSTEM HAS CONCENTRATED THE HEAVIEST
SNOWFALL IN A LAKE EFFECT ENHANCED SOUTHWEST-NORTHEAST ORIENTED
BAND FROM NORTHEAST LAKE TAHOE THROUGH RENO AND TO THE WEST SHORES
OF PYRAMID LAKE. THESE LAKE EFFECT ENHANCED SNOWFALL RATES WILL
PROVIDE MUCH GREATER LOCALIZED AMOUNTS WITHIN THIS 3-5 MILE WIDE
BAND. ALTHOUGH MOST AREAS IN THE WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY AREA MAY
SEE AN ADDITIONAL 1-3" THROUGH TUESDAY MORNING, LOCATIONS IN THIS
BAND MAY SEE UP TO 6-12+ INCHES OF ADDITIONAL SNOWFALL. THIS BAND
CURRENTLY EXTENDS FROM INCLINE VILLAGE, MT ROSE, AND WESTERN RENO.

Dumping in Galena right now. Rose tomorrow?

Snowing hard and accumulating a bit in Reno, so I'd say it'll be real decent on the hill in the morning.

Well, color me fucked. Alpine Meadows is opening Thursday! Just Kangaroo (seriously?), but I can't imagine Roundhouse and Summit 6 are too far behind.

Yeah Squaw is opening Saturday too, but the real (PR) news here is that KSL has listened a bit to the #freealpine complaints. Maybe all the shouting is finally getting through.

I skied there once and watched a 60 year old guy scream at and attempt (and fail, miserably) to sucker punch a 15 year old in the face for snaking a lift line. You can't buy that kind of entertainment.

    Actually, Alpine on Thursday. http://squawalpine.com/events-things...alpine-meadows

I suspect that they were making snow on Kangaroo in preparation for the first weekend of December, when teams start. So they already had a head start there.

Temps should be cold enough to make snow round the clock through midday Wednesday, From the webcam time lapse, it looks like the guns were going all day today, and not limited to Kangaroo.

    Nice to be proved wrong.

I saw that Reno got more snow in a hour this morning (4") than all of last year (2.8")

supposebly, somewhere in Tahoe they have gotten more so far this year than they did last march.

obviously, they're getting it pretty good, heavenly just bumped their open date by a week and the traffic cameras in Tahoe look like mid January.

It's definitely true for my neighborhood - Galena park area on Reno side of Mt Rose highway. Just came in from running the snow blower, probably 5-6" of heavy wet base snow. Mt Rose reporting 9-12", but no new terrain open.

Kirkwood this morning. All signs point to no:

"Still have not made the decision on if we will open on this Saturday, but our brethren mountains Northstar & Heavenly will open this Saturday"

If I were a betting man, I'd think Friday would be there opening day
