Dear god man! It's a pretty general term for people who have been involved in a situation where an automobile came into contact with another object. Arguing semantics is only an attempt to transfer actual events into your own realm of extremely pedantic logic. Until proven otherwise, it was an accident. I doubt that many of them were done on purpose. So get over it, move on, and realize that these are called "accidents" for lack of a better term.

Moving on, if Vail pass, and S-thorne to the tunnel close does that count as two closures? We are starting a pool at work and need to clarify...

Figure there are about 180 days of potential closures during the winter. I'll set the O/U at 150....

It's actually really hard in my car because the lights don't adjust to conditions and there is no indication on the dashboard

No, no, and there is a better term - "crash." But hey, go on using imprecise language that excuses people from their actions.

The truck was stuck perpendicular to the road. It must've happened right before I got there. Scared the shit out of me when I saw it across the road at the last second

Are we counting eastbound and westbound closures as separate?

4 hr keystone to denver yesterday. Cdot posting new message "requiring chains, adequate snow tires or 4wd on passenger vehicles." Sends the right message except for the 4wd exemption. No idea on enforcement.

And when they say "snow tires" what they really mean is M/S rated or better. They never require full on snow tires (mountain/flake symbol rated): https://www.codot.gov/travel/winter-driving . Since M/S tires are only a tread design and not based on a performance requirement they can be great or mediocre in snow.

That makes more sense given the death of the bill. At least some of the honest morons might be nudged in the right direction.

Bull. I had a 1994 Ford Ranger that had no dash indicator (save for the dash lighting up which you can't see during the day). Still somehow managed to turn the lights on and off as a matter of course. I'm guessing your car, like virtually every one made, dings at you if you try to exit with the lights still on? It really is a simple habit to establish, and if you do it habitually -- and don't try to remember only on rainy/snowy days -- your lights will always be on.

There seems to be a correlation between heavy snowfall and highway closures.

Clusterfuck traffic jam EB heading towards Id Springs all because the 2 lanes become 1. Then 5 miles of construction zone with no one working. So irritating.

I heard this the other night from someone in the know. Enforcement starts in February. Messages and warnings until then.

So does this mean they're pulling over every single rental car on the road? Because I'm pretty sure almost all of them have inadequate tires.

It would be nice if someone passed a law requiring snow tires on winter rentals. I'm not holding my breath though.

Enforcement will still be post-hoc -- you only get fined after you've fucked traffic.

Doubt it makes a lick of difference in traffic flow overall.

Well, that's not what I was told (there will supposedly be roadblocks, as they tried a few times last spring) but I guess we'll see. I heard something about the rental car agencies, too, but I can't remember exactly, so I won't stumble through that. As you all know, the laws are already on the books; they just aren't enforced.

Really? As in tire checks a la LCC or Cali? I've never seen or heard those purposed for i70. Or perhaps just on on-ramps?

The only roadblocks I recall being posted about were pranks, didn't happen. Maybe I missed something.

There used to be CSP tire/chain inspections back in the 60's and 70's. I don't remember when they abandoned the program? It is not like they have never done tire inspections before or don't have a legal framework to do it again.

Yeah, no problem. There's only an average of 30-35 thousand cars passing through the tunnel per day most of the winter. That shouldn't be a problem, we'll do it just like back in the old days. Surely traffic hasn't increased since the 60's.

That would be great, every cop in the state would be stuck on the side of I70 with a penny in their hand, checking to make sure tread was deeper than Abe Lincoln's hairdo. Good day to rob a bank.

I don't have to drive I70 to ski, do you? Bummer. I was just responding to a statement about the issue of inspections. Good luck blowing your life up there in Hell. Obviously you don't have anything intelligent or informative to add.
