I can run a pump as fast as an auto. I doubt you would need more than one, or 2 shots, but I feel ya.
What I am saying, is the sound of racking a shotgun is just as much a deterrent as seeing the firearm.

It is not Hollywood Bullshit. I can guarandfucking tee that if you were walking down the street, and heard that sound, you would stop in your tracks, and see WTF.

It does not matter which shotgun you choose, they can only shoot so fast, and a guy that can pump, will be right there.
I am not so sure the criminal would give a shit, whether he is being shot with a auto, or pump though.

That is why I use shotguns, or revolvers. When you panic, an auto, 1911, or AR can get you killed..A lot of people that have defensive weapons simply do not practice enough.
All weapons will work, the weak link is the trigger puller, and how you react in a stressful situation.

Dude, no, a pump isnt as fast as an auto. Hell, not even all autos are all that fast. Benellis and FN SLPs are more like ar15 rate of fire feel. They make you realize how slow a pump or even many autos are.

Love me a revolver though. Back in the earlier portions of this thread I believe theres a pic or two of an S/W 8 shot 357 Mag. It loaded with moon clips and I remember thinking with a bit of practice it was nearly as fast as a 1911 in many ways.

Carbines and pistols for indoor social work with less redecorating and opportunities for home improvement. Unfortunately, many women lack the upper body strength to run a pistol well. Leroy is on to something with the AR15.

For women, I have, and will always encourage the use of a shotgun.
Nothing gets attention like the racking of a shotgun.
My home defense shotguns are riot guns, short barrel, easier to get around, would not be much bigger than an AR
All of mine are stored loaded, rack down. All that has to be done is pickup, and rack it with some 00 Buck..Done.
I have one behind most doors in the house, and the women's know how to use them, simple, and very effective.
If you want to have fun, than also get an AR, but strickly for HD..Shotgun..
I have revolvers in the closets, just in case.

For someone big enough to use a 12g, possibly. For a smaller woman, 12g is a lot to handle, and becomes a lot less user friendly when recoil negatively effects accuracy under stress.

I really think it all depends on the person. I knew an 80 year old lady who had a 10/22 with a drum mag and for her I beleive it was perfect although I wouldn't suggest the same to anyone else, anything with more hitting power would be more of a liability to get off target.

A 20g is ok for a woman, but youre losing a lot of firepower with the limited capacity of a shotgun.

I strongly agree with the AR-15 recco for the little lady. My wife is 5'2" and weighs about 100# soaking wet. Her goto HD gun is an AR and she is very comfortable handling it & shoots it well. She shoots sporting clays with a 20ga, and the only time I ever saw her with a 12ga in her hand it was my heavy ass 101, and she looked like Granny Clampett with the god damned buttstock on her hip and the barrel up in the air because it was just too heavy for her to shoulder properly. She also reported that the recoil was "brutal" and stated that she'd never shoot another 12ga. IIRC, her AR has an umbrella corp upper & lower, DD chf 1/7 16"bbl, magpul ctr stock & magpul grip, YHM tube forend and a aimpoint pro up top.

Since we have a 6yo boy running around the house we both keep pistols in pistol safes in our nightstands, and there is a small safe in our bedroom with her AR, my AR, a 590A1 a couple more pistols and a bunch of mags/ammo. Tube on the 590 is full - just need to pump and pull the bang switch. AR's have full mags in the well with the bolt & dust cover closed. Just yank the charging handle and get your booger hook where it needs to be and we're rockin n rollin. We have a solid HD plan in place, and I'm confident she knows what to do but I'll keep on hoping that we'll never ever have to execute that plan.

Ya know its not really about that. Its more about being 90lbs, having no ability to defend yourself without a firearm, and having already experienced fear for one's safety from the male gender multiple times. Having a rifle will bring her peace and comfort. This is not an illusion.

I wonder how many anti gun people have ever had to fear for their personal safety from other people. Its a feeling that changes you, especially if you are a woman.

Took my VP9 to the range this week for the first time in ages. Probably put 100 rounds through it. Plain and simple, those guns are just stupid easy to shoot. I was shooting steel of all sizes at a minimum of 15 yards with zero problems. And there's something about the action on that handgun that allows you to put two rapid rounds on target much easier than other 9mm's that I have shot.

Like m9/92fs easy to shoot? That's always been the 9mm that I've shot best/easiest. With all this talk about the VP9, and a co worker that has been raving about his new VP40 for the past two weeks I feel like I might be missing out on something pretty damn good. I guess I need to shoot one.

This mornings project is cleaning up a '71 model 70 in 270. Many ignore the post 64's due to the perception that Winchester/USRA started cheaping out with the changes in 64, and from what I've been told/read/seen the guns from 64-68 weren't the best. They got their shit back together mid 68 and while the model 70 is probably one of the most popular deer rifles ever, the ones built >68 are every bit as good as their pre-64 counterparts but often get ignored because they aren't a pre-64. Go figure.

I'll throw up some pics when done. I grabbed a bottle of Kroil for these older guns on the recommendation of someone a few pages back - it'll be interesting to see what the stuff can do on a gun that hasn't been shot in 40 years.

Stock VP9 trigger is better than ANY aftermarket competitive Glock triggers or even 1911 race guns I have shot. Only factory gun on par is the Walther PPQ. Only thing better I've felt was a single action CZ that had a ton of trigger work done.
