Yep, good deal there.
Putting together nuther trapdesolvent, using the drill press this time. Much better results.

So, maybe I'm a newb (also, this is my first wood stocked long gun) but I still use Hoppe's #9. Is there a better gun cleaner out there? Also, I wipe down my barrels with a thin coat of it before storing, is there a better oil for that? And what do y'all use on your wood stocks?
"If we can't bring the mountain to the party, let's bring the PARTY to the MOUNTAIN!"
I use Hoppes #9 too.
Lots of people have other favorites, but that's mine. Frog Lube seems to get good reviews.
I use a silicone treated rag to wipe down my wood stocks. Available at any gun shop for under $10.

silicone impregnated gun socks are nice too

I use Hoppe solvent for cleaning and 10w-30 for lubing stuff and/or for rust prevention. No snake oil needed.
I prefer 0w40, but only because that is what I have lying around for my car.
Speaking of snake oil....anyone see the kerfuffle over FireLube? A chemist did an analysis of it, and discovered that it is just vegetable oil. Heh
Give me some thoughts on Montana Rifle Co rifles. I have a pre 64 that I really like and I guess these fellas took that receiver and combined the finer points with a Mauser. Maybe looking for a .300 WM and just met MRC through a work connection.
Frog lube frog lube frog lube.
Never had a weapon caused malfunction in my personally owned and/or maintained gats using frog lube. I don't get too crazy witch cleaning either. Clear of major dust, rust, and carbon with a light coat of lube.
I switched over to froggy lube earlier this year and like it a lot.

Hoppe's, and any oil will work. That said.
I use Sweets, and Barnes for my copper clean.
I use Kroil for my powder fouling, and rust protection, along with cleaning the stock, and metalwork.
Test it on a piece that has been rusted together, or threads that are hard to turn, anything that is gummed up. and let me know
If you want to make your life easier, get a can of KROIL, best shit on earth. The hated enemy of Rust.
When I walk into a gunshop, the first ting I look for is Kroil, if they have it, they understand guns, if they don't, more than likely they don't.
Its a tester for me. I know I sound like a salesman, but I have sold them hundreds of gallons, by showing friends what it can do.
It can be used on any metal to metal contact, on your guns, garage, home.
Conundrum.
I was one of the first to ever get a MRC action, I had 2 of them, sold them both. They were not smooth. I do not know if they have changed in the passing years.
A pre 64 cannot be beat, even though I will say the gas release is an improvement, otherwise, it is just another Mauser clone.
If you can get a good deal, then fine, otherwise, I am a Winchester dude. Smooth it up, and go.
I have heard good, and bad about MRC, just watch yourself.

First outing with the KSG wuz hella phun. Must bring slugs next time.
The GSG 1911 .22lr performed ok but there were sum feed fails and it needed the sights drifted a bit as it throws a tad right of center and couple inches high. Made adjustments after reassembly and completely coated with Froggy lube. Overall its an ok shooter for the money, at least it fits my hand and my familiarity, Attached the TB adapter and will play around with that later.

Had some problems w/ my ATI 1911-22 when I first got it several years ago. IIRC, it was a mag/ammo issue, resolved by using the correct ammo & a little tweaking of the feed lips. Mine runs like a raped ape with Rem 22 Thunderbolt ammo, but chokes on almost everything else.
I figure I will need to polish the feed ramp a bit and find out wot ammo it likes best. Like to try one thing at a time so I am not chasing in too many circles. Will look at the mag lips too, thx for that tip! Need to pick up a couple spare mags too.
Oh and mounted a Nikon P223 with a 600 bdc reticle on my long range .223 setup, bore sighted with a lazer so should be on the paper at 100yds.

.22 pistols can be finicky. I've always had good luck with CCI mini-mags or stingers, they seem to be hotter which helps cycle blowback actions. Check feed ramp, mag springs/followers, feed lips and try lots of different ammo.
FYI I put a Geiselle trigger on my PWS MK220. It is night and day--It's a nice, predictable two-stage trigger that makes that gun a lot more fun at longer ranges.

So I put a Kenton Industries custom turret on my hunting rifle--a Tikka .300WM with a Vortex Viper PST 6-24x50 MOA. For those unfamiliar, it's simply a turret based upon your specs so that you can select X amount of yards on the dial instead of X MOA. Yes, I know they're the same and yes I understand it's just a shortcut but the less thinking I do while hunting, the better I tend to do.
I shot it out to 400 last night and it seemed to be right on spec. Looking forward to using it this deer season.

I'm looking for a cheap ar 15 for a 90lb female to use as a home defense weapon. I'm rather ignorant of these rifles because I'v never really been a fan of the ar design, but the light weight low recoil and high rate of fire is pretty much perfect for a smaller woman for home defense, and I've got a bunch of ar mags already for my sig 556 as well as plenty of ammo.
Criteria
-cheap, round $400 if thats still a thing. It was a few years ago for some halfway decent stuff from what I remember hearing
-16"
-light weight
-I'd like a high quality barrel, itd be nice if it was accurate and fairy durable. I think chrome lining is cheap shit, but beggars cant be choosers.
-Irons are fine for now but an optics rail on top would be nice. Don't need any other rails on it though.
I'm wondering if I should try and narrow this down to a specific brand and search that out, or if I should just cruise pawn shops and look for a deal. If doing the latter, anyone care to give me a quick list of brands to either avoid or seek out? I can do some research on price points for them myself.

Cisco and his wife are fragile idiots who breed morons.
Put together something from parts purchased from Palmetto State Armory. Buy the stripped lower from your local gun store. Buy a CMC 4lb trigger. Buy a Primary Arms Red Dot (clone of an Aimpoint that is pretty good.) Add in a decent tactical light. Get a BCM or Raptor charging handle that is ambi and bigger.
Also, get her some E-Muffs because shooting an AR15 indoors will cause permanent hearing loss.
IMHO
For women, I have, and will always encourage the use of a shotgun.
Nothing gets attention like the racking of a shotgun.
My home defense shotguns are riot guns, short barrel, easier to get around, would not be much bigger than an AR
All of mine are stored loaded, rack down. All that has to be done is pickup, and rack it with some 00 Buck..Done.
I have one behind most doors in the house, and the women's know how to use them, simple, and very effective.
If you want to have fun, than also get an AR, but strickly for HD..Shotgun..
I have revolvers in the closets, just in case.
^^^ I have to agree that IF you are going to subscribe to guns as a viable home defense, a shotgun makes the most sense. I'm not sure a pump action would be my choice as there is too much time wasted between rounds. If you hear something at night, open a window and unload a round into the air. A 3 or 5 shell mag would be best. 20g is light with less recoil and would get the job done.
To be clear, I'm a gun owner but think that anything approaching an assault rifle is madness to allow the average American to own.
I can run a pump as fast as an auto. I doubt you would need more than one, or 2 shots, but I feel ya.
What I am saying, is the sound of racking a shotgun is just as much a deterrent as seeing the firearm.
EVERYONE knows that once you hear that sound, it is time to fucking move.
