Just about lost my dog the other day. Stomach flipped.

Fortunately we got him to surgery fast enough. Got him back home today.

Sore but in for a full recovery. Would've sucked to lose him at three.

Glad you were able to save him. I have a half poodle (barrel chest) and worry about this, too. How did you realize that's what it was and was it right after they ate?

I don't know what caused it, but I was washing off a bunch of storage containers with the hose, and he loves to bite at the water.

I think his stomach filled with air. I don't think he had anything to eat, but I don't really know.

It hit him hard. Dry heaving and gagging constantly. Then his stomach swelled. I knew it was really bad. If it happens you will know.

After surgery they couldn't get him to drink or eat at the Vet.

He almost pulled me through a window, to get out of that place.

As soon as he got home, he drank a ton of water, took a big leak, and crashed hard. Woke up and ate some boiled chicken and rice and some pain killers. Back down.

He is a powerful animal, and should come back even stronger. He also has clips in his stomach, that keeps it in place now.

Day 14:
Jewels is still rallying, she went on Pentoxifylline today, fortunately it's only about 30/month for the script after I shopped around a few drug stores. Vet told us not to cover the paws or ears where the ulcers/irritations are, just to occasionally clean them up by soaking them in Chlorhexidine 2%, Her back paws don't seem to be getting much worse, but her ears look like fucking plague or leprosy on the tips. She's got the comfy cone to keep her from licking, I've been trying to train her that once she starts licking ,the cone goes on. Do old dogs learn new tricks?

Good to hear... I thought about have the stomach clip surgery done on my guy, but I think I was quoted around $2500? From I was remember, it was just a couple stitches of the stomach to the chest, but they would have to knock him out.

Moeghoul, sorry to hear your pup's woes... sounds tough. Hoping for the best and glad he's keeping on. As far as old dogs learning new tricks, it can be done, but I am still trying to figure out this skiing thing...

Nice work. We lost a large male Saint a few years back to this. Fwiw, if anyone has this issue and thinks they won't make it to the vet in time, we were later told that a length of tubing fished down the throat and into the stomach may relieve some of the gases and buy one some time. Idk how likely that would be to work, but our guy was so out of it at the end that it wouldn't have caused additional discomfort. On the other hand, he made it to 11, which was about 8 years longer than anyone expected from that fat Miami rescue. Great dogs, wonder if I can find a picture of Rupert...

So no cancer, Invasive Lipoma. Which is a tumor that grows below the skin and in bad areas. Thus they can never get it all, and it has a high reacuurence rate. Lots of stitches, drainage etc and more bills.

Man, the connection and bonds are pretty amazing. Tough to read without thinking and ruing the day when they do go. I spent this morning with my wing man chatting up 60-70 yo suburban housewives, while on the Brueggers patio. Not exactly surfing the Oregon coast, but I still loved every minute of it.

Thanks BD, he was a special one to me, a best friend whom I will always miss and never forget to my dying day.

Cono, sounds grim, but at least the lipomas aren't invasive FWIW. My guy had a quite a few towards the end of his time - they were lumpy-bumpy but in of themselves didn't seem to do much damage. Hope your Aussie shrugs 'em off as well.

And Moeghoul, hope Jewels is holding up OK. Thoughts with you and her.

Lost an absolute angel today, and I'm so heartbroken over it.

Dixie, our Cavalier King Charles Spaniel decided today was the day to go back to heaven and that her fight was over. About 6 months ago she was diagnosed with Cushing's and had an accompanying pneumonia that nearly took her. She rallied, but somehow developed kidney failure these past two weeks and had too big of a hill to climb. You'd never know it though as her spirit, bright eyes, and ever-wagging tail were as constant as ever.

I never thought I'd ever love a little dog period, nevermind to the extent that I loved her. It took my wife 2 years to find her, and I'm so glad she did because Dixie was perfect. So much fight, birding, and spirit all wrapped in a constant desire for love and cuddles. Truly the sweetest dog I've ever known.

We will miss you girl, and are lives are so much darker without you.

Lipomas are teh suck. I have a ton of them. I must be a dawg . I feel bad for your dog.
