    Police Behaving Badly

When power structures are shown to be flawed and/or corrupt, their reform is invariably accompanied by chaos and disorganization as power balances shift back and forth. Principle firing appears to be fallout from that.

I don't feel nearly as much for the bootlicker principle as the guy who almost got shot by officer tight pants.

Why the fuck is a cop responding to a mental health emergency in the first place? Their results in that category leave a lot to be desired.

Who do you think gets called?

Their results in that category leave a lot to be desired.
I wonder what the statistics are for that.

Reducing this type of interaction is a focal point of nationwide policing reform. The mentally ill don't need guns to corral them. They need social workers to help extract as much productivity as possible to reduce the societal burden and improve their quality of life.

There aren't any, as far as I've heard. There are a few comments about report-writing based on the footage, policies regarding camera usage, and data retention stuff (e.g. limiting/not giving out video pursuant to public records/FOIA requests due to the privacy of persons interacting with the police), but they can all be mitigated. All the cops I know are very much in favor of them.

I don't think we disagree on the reform issue, but the reason cops respond to suicide calls is that suicidal individuals are often threatening to use firearms in populated areas. And when they're talked down most states (to my knowledge, we do in CA) have legal requirements that the police take at least temporary custody of weapons in the individual's residence, including firearms. Being across from somebody with a loaded weapon, or taking custody of that weapon, isn't in the job description for most psychologists or other mental health professionals.

Blind black guy is walking home from work. Cop says "Hey you, come over here". (Note: he does not identify himself as a law enforcement officer). Blind guy thinks he is being robbed. Beat down by cops ensues.

Cops who beat up innocent blind people are pussys.

So they beat down a blind guy, then for extra points, lie about it in an attempt to cover their own asses, not caring 1 fuck that doing so will probably fuck the victim over even further.

It's almost as if they don't even have a compass. I hope they can withstand the slap on the wrist they are about to incur.

Santa Ana CA PD raid an unlicensed MMJ dispensary. They missed a couple of the surveillance cameras when they were dismantling everything. Talk shit about an amputee patient and eat some of the merchandise/evidence.

FBI and other "LE" has been taking pictures of people at demonstrations for many decades--openly. In fact taking pictures openly is part of the intimidation. Why would body cameras be any worse?
While some damning evidence may be lost or altered, evidence of alteration or crucial footage going missing will be damning in itself. And if a citizen video turned up demonstrating that the police altered a video there will be no defense--the alteration will be seen as an admission of guilt. Of course if a jury is unwilling to indict or convict no matter what the evidence doesn't matter.

Unarmed black guy suffers a stroke. Cops show up and he does not put his hands up as ordered (duh, because of the stroke he has no control over his hands...). So the cops pepper spray him, then taze him, then drag his totally limp body to the ground, cuff him, then as a coup de grace they run over him with a car.

Prison guards convicted of beating a visitor while handcuffed then falsifying records and conspiring to cover it up.

Why is this allowed? It should be de-facto evidence of wrongdoing. Anything the cop says about what he did after turning off his camera should be inadmissable in court.

And the more of this BS that gets exposed the less likely juries will be to "assume the cops can do no wrong" over time. We're already seeing a shift in that direction in this country with all of this abuse of power BS getting exposed and scrutinized.

If it comes down to a choice between cameras mounted on every corner and cops wearing them, I'll take the cops wearing them.
