I wake up in the morning and look out the fucking window and decide what to do and where to go, predicting the weather is pretty easy and I'm damn good at it, but in a world of dip shits obsessed with their smart phones and computers and being the biggest bad ass at the right place and time so they can blog a story to all their friends about how cool they are, people rather be told where to go and what to do and what to expect instead of just going out doing something

like today I got soaking fucking wet, cause I did bother to look at the weather and have someone tell me the exact time it was going to snow and rain on me oh well, open snow is bullshit
Joel is a cool dude, great to grab a beer with. How about u fastfred?

Snowy morning on Vail Pass. About 4" of new on a good spring base. Fun and surfy.

Looks like powdery Tuesday coming up. What a spring in the high country. Love all this moisture. The foothills are so green!

This Joel Gratz is another dime a dozen east coast gumby. Leave us alone, and your not a local.
That being said, western slope actually gaining snow pack in May, crazy. Not much but high up we've seen several feet of the white stuff and no red dirt, knock on wood. Might even have a descent boating June.

I've got no beef with Joel. His site may no longer be useful for the core demographic here (hardcore internet skiers who don't actually ski), but clearly it's useful for a lot of folks. Who cares if it's mostly gumbies with POW POW tunnel vision reading and using Opensnow to plan their weekends - I think any service that makes this increasingly inaccessible niche sport more appealing to the masses is a good thing.

Weather nerds and rad dentists who want more technical info have plenty of resources. I fall somewhere in the middle, and have enjoyed reading the barlometer.com this season to expand my limited weather knowledge.

    In other news....
It's been snowing consistently in May, many CO ranges are in prime spring condition, and the snow thread is full of bitching about the weatherman. W....T...F?

Conditions were great on Buffalo today. Powdery wind-buffed up high and decent mashed potatoes down low.

    The snowpack is holding on

Looks like 12"ish around Wolf Creek, Monarch and Red Mountain. 6"ish around Loveland and Berthoud. Maybe if I didn't have a meeting smack-dab in the middle of the day... fucknuts. Not really worth it for a few pass laps though. The new SNOTEL website kicks ass though. Way better than the old site. So quick to look up the info that you want.

Several laps on chair 1 at loveland yesterday. Nice to ski pow, but also saw a reactive interface between the new snow and a saturated old surface layer, in steeper terrain. The amount for free water in the pack was concerning. Hopefully it will lock up gradually even if it does not completely freeze.

Patrol did some ski cuts today. I'd check Al's blog to see about potential opening.

Sorry. montanaskier's link works, but also know that it's also accessible via the A-basin home page.

I'll be up on LL pass tomorrow morning if anyone wants to get out. Probably finish off with an afternoon at ABasin.

Long drive for me, and I've got a weekend of party to prep for. Have fun, stay and be safe.
