^^ Yeah, there was an article in the Denver Post saying the same thing. Not really an article worth linking to.
I don't know about other parts of the state, but we've had lots of slide activity in the past 10 days or so in Crested Butte. Lots and lots of moisture, sometimes falling as rain, plus warm temps that kept the lower snowpack unfrozen = weird conditions for CO. I think last night was finally colder, so that might have locked things up.

Joel's forecast for the next two weekends is interesting. I personally would rather it stop snowing this time of year in exchange for warm days and cold nights (for peak bagging), but I guess you can't really complain about snow in May...

Skied both days at A Basin. Saturday was such a sleeper day. First and Second Notches open. You could ski Second from the top, and it was smooth.

BTW- not sure if they are Mags or not - I met a nice couple at the top of Second Notch on Saturday (we were like some of the first five people in there). I was wearing a bright green coat. Great meeting you guys.

Sunday was good too. Lighter snow. Pali skied well early.

That first photo is not from the Berthoud slide, it's from a slide last week on Sopris which was a wet slab Verus this which sounds like was a new snow wind slab.

True but I'm usually referring to the front range and while I know this too is highly variable I was more or less talking in generalities, the rain/snow combo on friday, snow saturday, tempts, yada yada. Just hoping to kick the can around a bit.

Anyone been up to IPW recently? I'm wondering how much of the East Portal/Brainard/4th of July roads are skinable.

People having thoughts through the weekend? Could be interesting with a new coating and some colder temps.

open snow is no better than the weather channel

sure it might have been good back in the day when it was little hobby and your only paying attention to a small area

now it's total bullshit, sold out, all about money, bought and paid for by vail resorts, it's all about making money off advertising and trying to be the number one goto source for the average gaper so they can decide which resort to goto on the weekend vail, beaver creek, breck or the basin, anyone who has half a brain should goto the resort that is calling the least amount of snow on the weekend

    open snow = epic fail

It's a $20 a year daily forecast geared for ski conditions at countless backcountry spots and resorts.
About as insulting as they come imho.

open snow >> weather channel. Put the bong down and examine the actual website content. Joel provides quite a bit of interesting data and analysis that can help to a degree with ski timing decisions. No, it's not much better than nws by 72 hours out, but he calls shit from further out so that helps me planning work schedules. Props to him for monetizing, it's still free to users.

yup, pulling tubes as I sit here, talking about the weather and predicting weather is the biggest line of bullshit anyone can pull

I wake up in the morning and look out the fucking window and decide what to do and where to go, predicting the weather is pretty easy and I'm damn good at it, but in a world of dip shits obsessed with their smart phones and computers and being the biggest bad ass at the right place and time so they can blog a story to all their friends about how cool they are, people rather be told where to go and what to do and what to expect instead of just going out doing something

like today I got soaking fucking wet, cause I did bother to look at the weather and have someone tell me the exact time it was going to snow and rain on me oh well, open snow is bullshit
