I've offered him a trade, trade + cash, and straight cash (homey! ) and his laughter just gets bigger every time. It's probably my favorite model ever made in my favorite color combination. I'll wear him down one day but until then I'll be happily content.

This is genius. That's up there with my buddy who poured cups of gasoline on his neighbor's unkempt hedges along his property line when he'd walk the dog every night. The hedges eventually came out and my buddy finally got his way.

Actually, your idea is a lot better.

Time to start buying awd 996 turbos. As much as people hate on the 996, that's where you should be buying if you don't have Iceman money

That truly makes me sad. I drove a few of them back when I worked at a Porsche dealer, and it was by far my favorite iteration. It wasn't quite as fast as the newer ones, but the WAY it put down the power felt entirely different. Was just a punch to the gut every time you put the pedal to the metal. A bit more challenging to drive too, since it didn't have near so many nanny devices as the new one. Like all the older Porsches, you had to know how to drive. Car kept you on your toes, that's for sure. LOVED IT.

What makes me sad is the fact I missed out on a beautiful, absolutely mint trade. White exterior, tan interior. As employees, we were allowed to purchase one vehicle a year at cost. I could've had that baby for next to nothing relatively speaking (mid 30s-40s), but nope. I was but a young, broke college student. FML. It was sad to see that car get sold, which happened in like a few days. Didn't last long. Freaking annoying how they've been shooting up in value. Each year I go without buying one because I can't afford it, is another year that puts them even farther out of reach.

Yep. It's inevitable. The 996 Turbo is the good 996, without the IMS issues.

The rare Carrera GTs (red, yellow, black) will be $1M in a 3-4 months.

Ooh, a tire discussion. Are those pilot super sports? I've got extreme contact DW's on my street wheels. They are nice but I think the PSS's will be next.

My new race rubber and wheels came in for the FR-S a couple weeks ago. 17x7 Kosei K4R's and 225/45 BFG Rival S's. One event on them so far and they are killer!

I'm thinking Bridgestone re11 for the 944 turbo. Supposedly a great dual purpose tire. Good on the street, good on the track.

Aww man you're making me jealous Those wheels look great on the white twin. I was wondering what to do if I could afford new wheels... I still think I would want something like the old mini lites that were popular on MGs and Z cars. I'm having way too much fun with this car, bound to get in trouble eventually

I'd love to throw Dunlop Direzza ZIIs or Bridgestone Potenza RE71Rs on my Miata (along with nicer wheels), but money. Doesn't help that the truck is gonna need tires too, and unfortunately, nice aggressive 33" AT tires are not cheap.

as far as real aggressive Street tires, you can't just throw them on a car and expect it to handle well. If you get an aggressive Street or auto tire, you need to make sure your suspension can handle it. firmer Springs and shocks and sway bars to control the body due to the higher g forces those sticky tires generate.

Definitely true of most cars. I think a Miata is ready for sticky tires out of the box and the 86 twins definitely have great factory suspension with very little roll. Mine is at about 95% prep for Scca solo c-street class.

    TRD springs/sways
    OEM crash/camber bolts
9mm spacers for max legal offset which required ARP studs
    Ferodo DS2500 pads
    Berk muffler delete
    AFe panel filter
    All Motul fluids

I can still do shocks, but haven't decided if I want to go with Koni's or get a little fancier with custom bilstein or MCS dampers. The car is pretty fantastic and corners really flat in this trim, but I might make the jump to STX next year because the class allows a lot more track day appropriate mods.

Agreed. I've heard NA Miatas do pretty well with stickies on stock suspension, but mine is pretty old and worn and there's no doubt the car would benefit greatly from a set of coilovers and sways in addition to wheels/tires.
