True... but for something thin skinned like a Whitetail deer, wouldn't a lighter bullet around 130 gr be more appropriate? Less lost meat and far less recoil... could get away with a lighter gun too.

    .375 H&H is a bad-ass round regardless.

I don't think so. I've shot deer with my 7mm mag, 30-06, 30-378 weatherby, .270, and my trusty not rusty anymore (parkerized) .375 and the big bullet moving slower ruins considerably less meat, the 06 isn't too bad but the fast rounds do more damage IME. My .375 is a synthetic model 700 with a muzzle brake, it's light (the lightest rifle I own) short and loud as fuck but the recoil is no big deal with the brake. It's like reaching out with the finger of Rama, things fall down and never move again (typically).

And the bonus is that if a bear walks in on me while I'm butchering up a deer I'm not undergunned with a .270.

Finally made it to the range after my little saga... felt good to shoot again. I recently installed a Witt Machine brake on my .300... so worth it. Point of Impact changed slightly, but the recoil is now like that of a .243. But wear earplugs and muffs 'cause its loud.

    My new hog gun-

    Mossberg Tri Rail 12 ga.

Should be a fun ugly stick. 8 round pump action. Can't be too prepared for a big hog charging you.

update- This is a certified Hog Hammer. Killed 2 with one shot. They were standing next to each other under a palmetto. I had a clean head shot on one, and got the one I didn't see too. We found him about 45 minutes later in a spot we had been through a lot since my shot. We had no idea who had shot it. When the guide was cleaning it, he pulled the shotgun slug out. I was the only one using a shotgun. I feel bad that he probably suffered, but the guide said it happens a lot. They pack in under the palmettos, and you never know how many are in there.

Another guy got a 150 lb'r with a crossbow. When he dropped it, 5 huge hogs ran out from under a relatively small palmetto. 3 more came out shortly after. Those things were 150-250 lbs easily, and you had no idea they were even in there.

Spent more time this weekend both at the reloading bench and at the range with my Savage .300 Win Mag... it's a freakin' laser beam. Consistently shot sub 1" groups regardless of the load - best group of the day was .498" 5 shot group at 100 yards. That was a 208 gr Hornady HPBT, 70.9 gr RL22 and Winchester primers and brass. .20 off the lands. Also was center punching a 12" steel plate at 300 yards with no trouble. Stoked.

It was my first time stalking them. Think quail hunting, but the quail can kill you, and they are 50-200+ lbs.

It wasn't that scary. Had one come at us, but veer off pretty quickly. The guide didn't even carry a sidearm. He said that if they charge you, you just jump out of the way, or kick them. I guess they can't corner very well, so they just fly right by. Glad I didn't need to try that technique.

If anyone ever wants to do some fun hog hunting near San Antonio, try nighthogs.com. They are great guys and it is a lot of fun hunting them with suppressed rifles and night vision.

I shot a hog down near Austin a few weeks ago...hunting them via spot and stalk is pretty fun. Ended up adding a second ear hole to a pretty good sized sow with my .308. She is tasty!

Seems to me there'd be a lot of adrenaline pumping through that meat before it was finally dead? IDK, seems like it takes a long time to actually put it down, but I'm a igner't SOB when it comes to hunting.

I'm glad you like it. Sorry for taking so damn long, we've been neck deep lately and it doesn't seem to be getting better. Just hired another fabricator so things are at least getting done faster. CAN'T GET A BREAK! :-)

I have no other gun stoke to add, but I just got my Glock 36 cerrakoted and will share some saweet pics of it soon. Oh, and the finger is healing up nicely, starting to get mobility in both joints. Will have a gnar scar for life though.

Hopefully Owen will graduate soon from the Red Ryder to his NE Arms .22. That thing seems like a BB gun compared to the comp rifle.

No rounds in the rifle. Just showing the kid proper handling and positioning. BBs only on our compound.

Nice! How's the recoil on that puppy? Snappy?

    Another good weekend for GUNS!!!!!!!!!!

Picked up a couple new guns:

    Summary so far:
PPQ M1 - Amazing trigger... like high-quality 1911 but in a polymer 9mm. Really amazing accuracy. Put about 50 rnds of factory brass, 10 rounds Winchester pdx 124 gr +p, 50 rounds of wolf and 250 handloads through it. It did choke on a couple of the handloads which I had done a really long oal for my glock 19 which has loose chamber. (Plus they were really low power.) Never had a problem with the factory ammo. Going to load a little hotter with shorter oal to see what happens with the handloads.

Glock 21 - its a big fuckin' block. No recoil, shoots nice. Paid $400 for it with Nightsights. Want to get a wildcat barrel for it. Thinking .460 Rowland or .400 CorBon - anybody have experience with those cartridges?

Also spent quite a while at the range with my .300 win mag laser beam. Put 28 out of 30 shots on a 12" steel plate at 370 yards with a 25mph sidewind... love this gun.

Still running the 208 gr Hornady HPBT. Bumped the load up to 71grs RL22. Should be around 2800 FPS with that load.

(I'm the dude in the brown Carhartts if you're wondering.)

Here's a pic from my buddy. Red circle at the left is a steel plate at 320 yards and the red circle at the right is at 370 yards.

Naw. Its metal, so the weight helps.
Makes me really hate the little plastic ones I have shot.
I only reload, so I can make it as stout as needed.
It can get snappy pretty quick though.

I have a Colt National Match A1, and
a Colt Anniversary coming, so the reviews shall follow.
