    Yo stuck,

    A) You probably should have gotten your gun/scope combo bore sighted before you went to the range. It would have saved a lot of ammo. Did you put the scope on yourself ?

    B) is this a used gun ? Possible wood stock warped or some crazy shit. Scope mounts torqued down correctly ? Since you are a gun JONG it might be a good idea to have a gunsmith look it over, it would probably be worth the money.

    C) maybe you suck at shooting. Assuming you are shooting at the Deer Creek range in East Missoula, I know they used to have training available. The fact that you say it shots high tells me user error. (Flinching, blinking, etc...)

    D) if you do decide to sell that fucked up gun for cheap, send me a PM.

    E) agree with you 100 percent about the NRA. I bought a life membership back about 30 years ago when they were non-political. When they call me for money now, I tell them to eat shit.

Everything new and boresited. Just talked to a seemingly pretty knowledgeable guy at Bob Wards (I know, shut up). I've been doing it backwards in the vertical and it needs to be half an inch low at 25 yards. It's weird it would be so off at 25 yards if it's been boresighted, but I guess that's why you start so close.
It's also weird that my bro would guide me wrong since he's been a pretty accomplished guide for the past 20 years and is a good shot.

Fuck it. This is getting too complicated/expensive. Fuck hunting, I'll just buy meat in the store like everyone else.
I'm returning the scope and bases and putting the previous garbage back on.
Harry, I have no idea what it's worth. It's a plastic stock, so there's no warping. Scroll up to see what it looks like. Rings are Weaver. I'll sell it to you, but I'm not driving to you to do it. This thing is going away tomorrow. I want it gone.
Too bad you can't return deer tags.

Dude, the bullet is rising at 25 yards. Do you understand basic physics and bullet trajectory? Your barrel is pointing up in relation to the horizontal of your scope. The bullet comes out, rises above the sight of your scope and falls down to the target.

for a .270 zero at 25 yards roughly equals 3 inches high at 100.

Everyone keeps telling me different shit.
Going hunting and trying to get sighted in is turning into such a huge hassle and expense with no fucking help from anyone that it's just not worth it.
My brother's not being much of a help, since he is neither here, nor am I there, and time and hassle to go shooting someone, and more money for ammo, and bla bla bla.
I hope Obama takes all your guns. Fuck it.

Jeebus. This is why we go on about mental health.

With all due respect, shouldn't someone be taking *your* guns? No idea what kind of meds you need to stay level, dude, but history has shown us that folks with emotional/mental health issues being treated with SSRI's are prone to some serious breakdowns.

If you are indeed stable enough to be behind the trigger, just get the fucking thing shooting point of aim, point of impact at 25 yards. That'll at least get you in the ballpark & put you on paper at greater distances. Christ, this isn't rocket science. Get a fucking piece of paper, a write down the caliber and weight of your bullet & find it's muzzle velocity on the ammo box. Look up the ballistic coefficient. Measure the height of your scope over the bore. Plug the shit into any of a million free ballistics calculators and look at the graph of the bullet's flight. If you're a total hands on learner, and still don't get it, print out the graph and then go out and setup targets at 25,50,75,100,150 & 200yds. Start at 25 with poa/poi on the bullseye. When you're drilling that, hold the bull on the 50 yd target. Notice point of impact stays the same left/right but changes up/down slightly. Shifts a little more at 75, then 100. Follow along on your ballistic chart and you should be able to "see" the results of the arc based on holding the same point of aim (bullseye) but watching the point of impact move up & down. That said, .270's a relatively flat shooting round.

And FWIW, if you can't consistently hit a piece of paper, there is no way in hell you should be out hunting. I'm surprised your brother hasn't been more helpful, but you really need to find someone local who knows what they are doing & can take you out to the range and get you squared away or better yet, consider taking a basic rifle course. They'll teach you about safe handling, ballistics, zero'ing a rifle and some other good stuff.

You didn't respond. Gun is gone, scope is returned.
I have a Marlin 925r 22lr I wouldn't mind letting go if I can get $100 for it. Bolt action 22. 2 7rnd mags. Tasco 3-9. Sling. I can throw in some ammo too.
It hasn't been a huge frustration in my life so I'm not eager to get ripped off for it, but last time I went gopher shooting with it, I think I missed every one. Right now I don't feel like touching another gun, let alone seeing one. It has hung out in a closet most of its life. Been shot some. Barrel is clean and perfect.
It's a great little plinker, trainer, earwax remover, whatever you want to do with it.

Stuck, coming down to SLC anytime soon? I'd think about taking it off your hands, but with FFL transfer, may just be cheaper to have my mom send one of mine out from VT.

No, sorry. The .270 is gone. The .22lr is for sale.

I'm thinking you need a hug more than a gun and that this was the right decision.

ISO: 'yote gun to use on the new property. Got yotes running around on our 65 acres and the GF is afraid her little microwave dog is going to get eaten. I'm thinking just a bolt action .223 or 22-250 with a decent scope. Thoughts?

Tikka T3. Had one for a bit (.223, stainless) and it was a sweet gun! Mounted a Zeiss 1.4X5 scope to it- great set up.

How about one of those .25 air guns?

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=juiHFT_9TaI

That said I am betting you already have .223 ammo and a bolt action Remmy 700 would be hard to beat.

Yeah, either this or a Savage is what I'm thinking, as my two "real rifles" are a T3 in 300WM and a Savage .308. Would be nice practice to set up a light caliber yote gun based on the same platform and optics.

+1 Buddy of mine has one that shoots something like 1800 fps. Uses it for all manner of small game including song dogs.

I have the Gammo Bone Collector break barrel. That thing is really powerful. Shoots 1900 FPS using the light weight ammo.
They are super fun, but a lot louder than any air rifle you ever owned.

Not much of a gun guy but I handled my brother's Ruger Gunsite Scout .308 yesterday and man that is a sweet piece of engineering.

I've been hearing good things about the Howa/Weatherby Vanguard .223s or .308s and have been considering picking one up, probably with a mag conversion. Might be a good candidate for the coyote gun question earlier too. Anybody got one?

Buddy owns one and loves it - it's his goto rifle. I think it's 'OK'. I've got a Savage 11 and Rem 700 that I like much better and would recommend over the Weatherby. One more inexpensive mag fed bolt gun that I kinda like is the Mossberg MVP. Comes in .223 or .308 and accepts pmags for both calibers, which is convenient, and a hell of a lot less expensive than the Accuracy International mags.
