You are a fucking retard. There was no judgement in that question. I own guns and have a CPL for WA. I was wondering IF he carried while skiing, not WHY you mouth breathing cretin. IF I was to carry skiing it wouldn't be a wheel gun but something lighter.

Paranoid idiots like you give gun owners a bad name.

Totally valid question. I do know people who pack heat when skiing, but I don't see the point personally. Winter is a time when the tweakers and bears are hibernating. (Edit and if I did carry skiing, it'd be more of a "beat it asshole, my stuff isn't worth your time" type gun like a Ruger LC9 or Smith and Wesson Shield.)

I mostly carry a Glock 19 I have to go to Yakima or Seattle. I've never felt like there is much of threat when on skis. I maybe would carry if I was ski touring up the Mountain Loop Highway or out of Index? Seen a lot of really scary and bizarre stuff up in those places (Both personally and when I was working for the USFS).

Although my friends have been seeing a lot of Cougars while out XC Skiing up in Plain, so maybe that would be a good time to pack? Cats are pretty thin skinned, I'd honestly feel fine carrying a 9mm or something. All this hand cannon crap people pack here in Washington is a little silly. I'm far more worried about some dude strung-out on meth than any wild animal, including bears.

I do carry when hiking/fishing/hunting in the summer/fall. Again, more for people deterrent than animals. And for shooting Grouse, because they are tasty.

The neat thing here is that we designed and built a Kydex "guide style" holster, thus offering an alternative to Leather and Nylon which both absorb moisture and can end up holding water against your firearm. The wheel gun was a request from some key accounts up in Alaska.

Thanks for the thoughtful response. I've looked at your stuff at Stan's in town. Need a lefty Sig 226 Navy, not CC.

I don't carry out in the woods routinely around here but it's not unreasonable. There are some weirdos on this side of the mountains too.

Got my ruger kitted out. I was considering cerekoting the lower but wonder if it would be too much.

Got my .300 Win Mag Savage 116 finished up, it's a sweet shooter. The Witt muzzle brake really cuts the recoil.

Also shot some photos of our new Kenai chest holster.

I've got the opportunity to pick up a lightly used P226 in .40 for 500.

25 rds of defense ammo. 100 rds of target ammo.

    Probably will do it.

The 226 is sweet. Make sure you practice the first DA pull, I've never been able to make it work for me but know others who are pretty damn good with it.

Not sure if anybody has watched CarniK Con, but it's my favorite youtube gun channel.

I've got a P226 in 9mm. Great gun. My unit was one of the tests when the military was looking to transition from .45 to 9mm. SIG let us buy them when the test period was over.

    1. That rifle is sick. Like I said above, I have a Tikka T3 in .300WM and a similar Savage in .308 with a Primary Weapons Systems brake on it. The Savage is my favorite shooter by far--they're just unreal out of the box.
    2. What pack is that? Looks like a Kifaru?
    3. I'm interested in your holsters. Where can I get some info?

    Edit: Sitka is bush league.

    Sweet gun stoke, boys.

1080: Looks good to me. I'm a fan of the contrast of fde furniture and a black receiver/fore end - got a couple of rifles setup that way. You might want to take that finger groove thing out of the AFG - makes it much more comfortable, IMO

Rev: Definitely hook up with Leavenworth & check out their holsters. He set me up with a couple and they are great. Awesome product, and quick turnaround. I don't have enough good things to say about his gear.

Thanks! I'm taking it to the range this weekend and hope to stretch it's legs a little bit. So far I've been super pleased with it out to 200 yards, but .300 win mag doesn't really start to set itself apart until past 300 yards. Worked up some handloads with 208 GR Hornady BTHP Match (similar to a 210 SMK), RL19 and RL22. Excited to see how they shoot. I'll take a few pictures and throw them up here.

My dad had a Tikka T3 in .300 and I gotta say, while I think the Tikka is better looking and has nicer finish, you can't beat the accuracy and trigger of a basic Savage, for the price. Have you torqued your action bolts on your Savage? It's amazing how much you can tighten the groups just by cinching them down.

Cilogear Worksack 60L. Not listed on their website, but if you email them they can help you out.

    3. I'm interested in your holsters. Where can I get some info?
gunfightersinc.com or just email me woody@gunfightersinc.com and I can send you our 2015 catalog and an order form. We are offering a deal if you can get your LGS to take our holsters we will give you and the owner a free holster.

    Edit: Sitka is bush league.
I know... taking product photos and borrowed it from a friend for that "high hunt" vibe. Personally I just wear carhartts or some black Mountain Equipment softshell pants when deer hunting - the deer are going to smell you before they see you.

Brown Bess with bayonet - .75 cal. long gun. Not a replica. Been hanging around for a long time. Never tried to shoot it, never will.

After taking the pic I realize how much it needs some TLC

Just picked up a Shield in 9mm as a carry piece.

Now to get trigger kit, IWB holster, ammo/reloading dies.

Spur of the moment gunbroker bidding gets expensive fast!

Well, I was hoping to share some gun stoke, with my new .300, etc but this happened the day before I went to the range:

I'm sharing this hoping somebody can learn from my mistake. I assumed a new firearm that I was checking out was empty, as I had cleared it earlier. Instead when I half-assed "cleared it", I loaded a round in the chamber and put a 9mm size hole in my finger. 6 screws, 23 stitches and 1 plate later my finger is back together. Never thought I'd ever have a ND, but I became to comfortable and let my guard down. I blame no one but myself.

Don't forget that a gun is lethal weapon. I touch so many at my job that they started to feel like tennis rackets. Don't let familiarity breed complacency.

If anybody wants to see it, I'll post a couple pictures of the wound in a separate thread. It's gnarly. The bullet tumbled and made a pretty good mess of things. Glad it was a FMJ round not a hollowpoint nor something more powerful like a .45. Probably wouldn't have a finger.

Really thankful that I didn't hit anywhere worse.

How did the finger end up in front of the barrel?

I wish I knew to be honest. Think I flinched maybe?? Still not sure... certainly wasn't expecting it to go off, was holding it in one hand. If I could go back and fix it I would.

Not a BB, with out seeing the lock plate closer it probably a Springfield model 61 in .58 cal. Becarful with any TLC, you could ruin the value. Never shoot old gunz unlike the idiots on TV. Just make sure the trigger and hammer works, never drop hammer fully on the nipple as it could break. Check the barrel with the ramrod or a stick to see if its loaded.

Looks like it could use a coat of oil and get it the fuck out of that musty basement.

Just about every person I know who owns guns has had an ND. I think its important that people talk about it. I hope to learn from it, and hopefully other people can too. Unfortunately, I shot my finger, not just the wall like most people.
