the current uncertain nature of the previous employer didn't have anything to do with this, did it?

While I'm not employed by PCMR, the fact there may only be two resorts in this destination to market next winter certainly was a factor in putting myself out there in the job market.

The main reason I contacted my recruiter to find another job was an off-hand comment from our pres/CEO. He basically threatened my job in a half-joking/half-serious manner. He often says things without thinking, but this one struck a cord. He's under the microscope by our board for some shady behavior so he basically told me "if I get fired I'm taking you down with me". Then he repeated himself for good measure.

So as soon as the boss-man left my office, I contacted my recruiter and told him what the boss said. Within a week I had four phone interviews for exec. level positions at amazing resorts and destinations, not including Jackson (which was handled by a different recruiter that I hadn't worked with before).

Anyway, once I found out my worth in the job market, decided it was definitely time to move on. Pretty stoked about my decision. Now I can go back to buying a gun a month!

Never in a thousand years would I have imagined that the marketing department of a ski resort would be so cutthroat.

Parvo must have a magic dick. He finds the only girl in Jackson to share a place with, and one of the few girls here talks about hooking up. Sheesh. Or maybe he just listens well and, you know, cares.

So instead of starting a new thread - I thought I'd hijack Parvo's since it's recent and he's already out in JH and taken care of....

I've made the decision - quit my job, convinced the girlfriend, and we're going to move to Jackson. Plan is to be out there for at least a couple of years... skiing, hiking, biking, fishing... Goal is to get out either early October, or late October (wedding mid-month back in Minneapolis).

I know some of you PM'd Parvo with hook ups for a place to live (either something you know of, or the friend of a friend thing) - if any of those openings are still available, I'd really appreciate a PM. We are looking at all rental locations on the east side of the pass at this point. We will both be working - so looking for something semi-nice... not just a room with 5-10 other people in the same place. If you've got anything for us, we'd really appreciate it.

Once there - I'm good for a round or two of drinks - thanks all.

Miraculously there are quite a few rentals in the paper this week with all the kids going back to school.
Also the town of Jackson is going to start cracking down on vrbo'ing in town so that could open up a few more places for monthly rentals.

Not sure how they decide who gets what, but working at the mtn might get you employee housing + then you don't have to also come up with another $1300 each for passes. Several places around town will help subsidize passes for employees though.
    Welcome gang

Did the hotels around town get all pissed that people through VRBO were providing a more affordable and better lodging option?

Yes, I think the hotels saw a little effect from it (although I think the vrbo's were also pretty expensive) The rental shortage made it most apparent though as the newspaper ran 3 wks of coverage on the subject

How do you suppose they can "crack down" on VRBO'ers? That rumor doesn't sound too legit.

Big Sky seems to be having similar struggles to a lesser degree. The problem seems to be complicated with no easy solution. Not quite sure what we're gonna do, but I also don't see how JH/BS can keep operating if their employees can't afford to live there (while the mountains and local businesses keep paying so little)...or simply find available housing. Boot all trust-funders out, perhaps? That'll clear up some space! ;-)
