Ski is in Cottonwood Heights, not far from either canyon. You can pick it up right before you leave too so you don't have to lug the fukker around. Gonna PM you my digis and we can figure it out from there.

Dawn patrolled Tom's Hill again this morning. Dust on crust/icy crust all the way up the east skin track up Tom's to about 80ft or so below the top. Turns up top were just fine, but quickly turned to dust on crust. Felt icy, kinda like back on a Pennsylvania ski resort. I'm sure it will soften up throughout the day. Always a nice way to start the morning before work.

saw a couple of you this morning from reynolds where it sounds like conditions were better. didn’t see/hear any cracking, collapsing, sluffing or any cornice kickin’. time for just two so rode reynolds north facing through the trees and a south facing run off false summit of little water. north facing mid elevation aspect rode really well. south facing also rode well but was a little wind effected. good start to the day and weekend. enjoy it fellas.

    cleaning the slopes.

Suggesting otherwise when the intent is other than a final check prior to descent indicates poor snow sense.

Fishys pictures aren't working, but I'm pretty sure the slope in question didn't get skied afterward. Also, there is a skin path right below that this slide ran across, that you cannot see from the ridge. Thus putting others at risk. Then to make things worse, no one was notified, so multiple 'rescuers' showed up and wasted their time searching the debris.
    Things becoming clearer now?
You've got a strange sense of "smug criticism of others' "control" efforts in the BC.

    No legend, just old

In the olden days, pre-"Wassangeles", there was always competition for BC lines but plenty of room for everyone. For instance, Powder"turds" was always controversial--certain tourers would skin up early to an LZ and moon the ship or stomp out a message, but it was somewhat good natured. The most prominent antagonist actually went to Canada to guide for CMH. WPG has assisted in many rescues over the years and might be your first responder in the Wasatch when things go bad.
There was more room for everyone to do their "own thing", and I agree that current crowded conditions require more social awareness and respect especially for riders below. But, those below need to be more acutely aware than ever of disaster from above. So "cornice whomping" is not the best idea although it can be fun…
I don't know SFB either, but what stands out from his posts [for me] is a first impression of harsh critical tone which dominates the "stoke." A "tradition" of sorts. He's probably the most truly stoked one out there.

The new normal in the Wasatch is nearly urban backcountry skiing. So it goes. And everyone's an expert in training. We're all still in this together, and the Uintahs beckon those yearning for space. As you overtake me on the track, I'll step aside. forQUOTE=skifishbum;4193312]i'm wonderin who you are and if your sandbaggin or another cuntinator aliASS was thinkin an oag but why would a ledgend rejoin the community under a new name to bitch about a fellow skibum and promote whack ass "expert" shit like

^^^Interesting historical perspective. Wonder if that was Murphy or Atkins as the perceived "most prominent".
The issue is easily resolved by simply eliminating non motorized and wilderness exceptions to Forest Service rules.
One inadvertent cornice fall, remotely released by getting a little close to the ridge.

Bigger than a Suburban, smaller than a box car. No other skiers in the area and no clean out, didn't do shit.
Ski tips were included in the photo for pc.

Pretty sure the activity in Broads is the result of graupel pooling.

    Expert in training.

    History

So Murph is the one I remember, 74-75-ish. Was so anti-heli and then heli-guiding became his career. If you can't beat 'em…??!! Guess we'll see how long WPG's "grandfathered" position lasts. Can't be that fun being in that business here anymore, especially with the weather of the last few years.
    Nice line and pics!

Dropping a large cornice on a sensitive slope leads to predictable results. Please save the cornice kicking, on the large open slopes we share, for a final slope check before skiing said slope. If you have no intent to ski the slope please let it be and allow it to adjust to the load. Avalanches may "clean out" the overlying slab but much of the weak sugar snow remains setting the slope up for repeat slides.

And unfortunately, trying to break SFB's code withers the brainpan. Guess there's not enough left in the cranium. Yeah, it doesn't need to be read, truce.
Good news is SFB's fan club is strong. Take care of each other out there.

/discussion. Repeater denial bias seems to reinforce the familiarity heuristic. Depth hoar bowl last winter for the last example I recall offhand.

Been traveling which is good and bad, time for iPhoto but not for making teh seeeex to wasatch Doggie rooster tail and some scenes from earlier.

Great weekend to be out! Original plan was to do Tolcat Couloir, but ended up going up the Patsy Marley ridge to Wolverine Cirque. Large cornices in the cirque. The west facing aprons have exposed rocks between the chutes.
    Cornice on Patsy Marley ridge

Even larger cornice in Wolverine Cirque

West facing side of the cirque

Didn't feel confident making a 4' drop into THC (The Huge Chute), so we opted for Granny's Chute

The rest of Granny's Chute after the roll over

    Looking back at the lines

North and east facing side of the cirque.

Fucking awesome snow even though there were two tracks in it already. Went back up to the top of Patsy Marely and rode the ridge down a bit, then dropped into the Microwave taking us back down the road/Alta side. The Microwave is W-SW facing; the snow was getting damp as we were making our exit at 1pm. Off the slopes at 1:45pm, but forgot to bring the 2 beers to enjoy back at the car. Hope you all got some!! Or lots!!!

Got out this weekend, sun had it's way with most unsheltered terrain on Friday. Found some good snow still on high S on Saturday, lower was a very stout suncrust. Good snow on east facing sheltered as well.

    Don't slip

Top of Superior with dfinn and jongchrist. Turned into quite the whiteout after a clear start

dfinn making a turn on the apron

    Fun shot off Tuscarora

    Wheelie bar time

    AOK skiing the powdah
