great skiing yesterday at Eldora, seemed that cell just got stuck there and dumped all day, bailed out once the front side triple went down. anyone hear of this?

today was keystone as worried about wind... no wind and great snow all day. snowing all day and some heavy bands at times.

not sure how we found a nice untouched section in the trees... lapped this section most of the day. deeeeeeeeeep!

Your first paragraph was cool, but then you had to throw in this jab, when it was your post that attacked the choices other people have made and set yours up as superior. Seriously, you wonder why some people might "need to defend their way of life" when you called them "rats in a cage"? Try not to be such an asshole and maybe people wouldn't feel the need to defend their way of life. Especially when -- as your first paragraph hinted -- many of us have spent significant time in both places. Circumstances or choices have put us where we are, but only a very lucky few can make those choices without expecting some tradeoffs. Heck, even if I lived in a mountain town I'd be a weekender mostly, that's the nature of my job, a tradeoff I made based on my skillset and how I might be able to afford a decent and sustainable lifestyle. I made another tradeoff by living here, on the fringe of a metropolis, with way too many people around, but a good life in a relatively good place with lots of recreation around that doesn't require I-70. That's all we're all trying to do, and as I've told DaHeel and montanaskier numerous times, there's nothing qualitatively different between the front rangers who post here and the mountain towners, we're all skiers and outdoor folks and most of us have done time in both places. It seems like the mountain folks like to try and justify their choices just as much as the city folks.

I hear you on enjoying skiing with less crowds, we all enjoy that. I wish I was out there right now, especially after being out sick the last 5 days. Glad you're getting some.

At the end of the day, it’s not like Summit/Eagle County is some quaint undiscovered collection of towns and resorts, and Denver really isn’t that far from some quality skiing and riding.

I get a kick out of passing beater subies and Yota pickups in mank snow in my Honda Fucking Fit. It's not the cars you morons. You expect everybody to spend up to a grand on snow tires for the 6 times they head up the hill and back? Not gonna happen. That's why they buy the cheap ski pass too.

It's not like LCC where one county can fund chain/4X4 enforcement either. It's not a realistic approach to the I-70 corridor. And strict closures may work for I-80, but not here, not with the amount of tourism dollars involved.

Danno and Kevo are spot on btw. And unless you are a true native to the state, STFU with this Front range vs mountain bullshit. Most of us ARE from somewhere else. 22 years here myself, lived in Denver, Boulder, Aspen, Golden, and even a stint in Woodland Park. A lot of shit has changed. Don't like it? GTFO and take your sniveling "wah I live in the mountains, I can't deal with skier traffic" drivel with you. Many a true man are killing it in Denver and still find the time to get 60-70 days of skiing in, all while not bitching about traffic at all. Find a way to make it work, or don't live in a resort town so close to the city! Summit County is basically an extension of Denver and where Texans and Californians also like to park it, and a freeway runs through Vail. Relocate to off the major highways if you are looking to be unaffected.

    Back to posting about conditions...

Skied Vail today, had a lot of fun. Spongy, supportive snow. Not necessarily face shots, but deep enough. I thought it was pretty busy for a Monday, every chair was full until around 11, but folks kept raving on how empty it was. Perspective I guess. I don't ski there on weekends. Ever.

The I70 flame and bitch session is always fun. Getting back to the weather and snow conditions...

Looks like this thing is about wrapped up for us. Blue sky in town and I can see some of the peaks for the first time since it started dumping last Thursday night.

I find the act of skiing filled with sublime pleasure. Since I live and work in Breckenridge, skiing here allows me greater access to that sublime pleasure. It's a simple equation for a simple man.

But that's just it, I don't have to defend where I live now just like I didn't when I was in the city. I don't think I'm better, and many of my best friends are "front strangers" But maybe y'all could take a joke every once in a while. I mean shit, Kevo's post was funny, mainly because it was the polar opposite of how things really are, maybe because it's what we want the city folks to think. I can laugh at it.

In other news, it's snowing again.

I can't believe I had to skim through 2 pages of bitching and whining to get the amount of weather I just got from Kathy Sabine's abbreviated weather update. Do we need to start a new thread?

Breck was most excellent this morning. Skiing the fall line right off the summit of Peak 7 was $$$. I agree, it's feeling a lot like '10/'11, but we need it to keep snowing right through April for it to finish similarly. I'm pretty sure I have just as much snow in my yard now as I did at the same time that season.
what was I thinking talking about snow rather than traffic?!??!!?!? oh yeah, I'm never in it. hah

I managed to hit breck around 2 after getting back from the basin, why the hell not? it was filling in plenty even around 3 so tomorrow will be just another pow day!!!

and yeah, zuma opened around 10:30, had a pretty big crowd going back there so I went and hit falcon cliffs and lapped lenawee with no lines after 3 or so runs in zuma.

    Allright you FUCKING DUMBASSES...

Here is why living on the front range (Boulder) shits on whatever shithole mountain town you live in.

A- PUSSY - Seriously, have any of you guys ever been to Boulder/Denver and looked at the amount of females compared to whatever shithole mountain town you live in? Some of you guys must be actual faggots to like living in towns completely populated by men where every girl is either taken or more bro brah than you are.

B- JOBS - Yes, believe it or not, there are a fuckton more job options in The Denver Boulder metro area than there are in the entire rest of Colorado. I make my own schedule at work - I can go skiing 4 or 5 days a week. Generally twice a week in Summit/Eagle County, and morning laps at Eldora once or twice a week. I never deal with the traffic all you pussies are bitching about because I know when I-70 will be crowded. Plus, eldora is only a 30 minute drive from my house. Not bad at all. Also, since I have an actual job (not working as a lift operator or in a ski shop) I have enough money that I can take vacations to places like Alaska and the PNW. Usually do that at least once a winter. I ski 40-60 days a year on average, but I am totally a "Rat in a cage"

C- CULTURE - I don't think I need to even explain this one.... The cultural options in Denver/Boulder SHIT all over whatever lame fucking shit goes on up in those hick mountain towns. Not saying that Denver/Boulder are full of unique cultural options, but there sure are more than in the mountains.

D- Mountain Biking - The Mountain Biking options in Boulder are so lame and limited. The front range really sucks. You should never come here. It also really sucks when I wake up early and take a few laps on the mountain, then come down to Boulder and find 70 degree temperatures perfect for mountain biking. Yeah, I am a rat in a cage.

    E- Did i mention PUSSY?

All of that said, I'd have never left Durango if I could have made a good living there.

TGR is nothing if not an endless parade of people trying to vindicate their own personal choices whether in bindings or profession or skis or or music or zip codes. And attacking anyone with a differing or opposing viewpoint. Why would we want to try and clean up this little corner of our retard sandbox? If you want to talk about weather only, find out where Marty Coniglio works out and corner him on the elliptical.

Mountain dweller here. On the pussy argument you win, although the lack of trim in ski towns is about as well worn a meme as "PM Rontele." But "culture?" What do you mean "culture?" Like you go to the opera in a tux? Art museums? "Ah, a brilliant expression of negative space." Please, you and I can both enjoy JoeStrummer's most excellent "Roma" thread if we need "culture." Face facts, without the Rocky Mountains next door, Denver is a sprawling dump. Boulder is cool like most college towns but once you get past 22, you kind of turn into a pumpkin, no?

Just stirring shit to get with the zeitgeist of this thread. What I will say is nothing on Earth beats a mid-week under-reported pow day.
