Looks like this is his 2013 winter edit. I haven't even watched it because Youtube seems to be sucking right now.

Getting ready to leave for work this morning, the Portland News said story next on video of someone luckily surviving an avalanche. Decided that was worth waiting a few minutes to leave.
Shit I thought when I saw him airing those rocks with not enough room. Dude was lucky there. And why exactly was he skiing off that cliff into the avalanche? Saw the yellow airbag in the clip. Guy seemed like a wanker.
Edit:just watched the linked video and it is a lot more than the piece from the morning news in Portland. The editing in that makes him out to be a complete wanker.
Well, I just watched the video I posted.
I like Blackmill.... this dude should learn to ski before he starts filming himself with the pole mount (and put the camera further back on his pole).
And pretty sweet how he just stands and films the wet slide hitting him at 8:40.
"I saw it fracture and then I tried to straight line it over the cliff and then just instantly deploy my air bag."
Does not compute. So he saw it fracture, but then decided to jump right in?
In general rotors aren't that expensive and are pretty easy to do yourself.
Oh, skier, blah blah, dumb.
Sent from a rotary phone.

"This system make of us slaves. Without dignity. Without depth. No? With a devil in our pocket. This incredible money in our pocket. This money. This shit. This nothing. This paper who have nothing inside." Jodorowsky
Ya'll shouldn't get too worked up on a video of some tool with a GoPro and an airbag doing something retarded... there will be many, many more videos like this one for seasons to come, and definitely a new thread on said video every time. Welcome to the future of GoPro Hero 3s, airbags and idiots...
Here is the video from dude's youtube channel so you don't have to watch commercials.
The interweb sometimes makes it seem like only ignorant idiots are getting caught in avalanches but that isn't always true. Easy to feel falsely confident in one's own ability to judge a slope when people are skiing stuff most of us wouldn't touch with a ten foot probe.
My dad always told me to drive every mile with the idea that I could drive a million miles the same way without having an accident. Seems like instead of going for a long accident free life in the mountains some of these kids are willing to have a few 'fender benders' since their airbag and crush zone equipped cars will keep them safe. You see the exact same sort of behavior on every road in America everyday.

I shouldn't, but i find this guys videos so funny.
Clearly he has no idea what he is doing on skis.
Not afraid to get after it though, I'll give him that at least.
It's hilarious... full face helmet, gopro and an airbag... fuck it, fall off a cliff, bounce off a rock and land into an avalanche of internet fame!
looked like the guy was out of control pretty much from the get-go.
he was ~ 4 turns above the cliff? what was his intended line?
pretty ugly all around.
In search of the elusive artic powder weasel ...
I travel in the BC with a '72 Beetle ready to deploy at all times
That guy struck me as pompous (lucky) little turd, and the reporters serious intonations of how experienced he was were bizarre to say the least. Did she fuck him? if so there is hope for the very worst of us
15 minutes of fame have rarely looked more idiotic

Judging from his shadow, dude tailguns like a motherfucker.
I bet it was a soft landing...right into a giant moving plume of snow and air.
More my style, but a good way to direct this thread in a positive direction (I don't think I've ever seen Jerry Douglas so subdued; it must be his airbag/scarf):

I know there is always going to be some idiot with a gopro, a death wish and a yearning for Internet fame - I get that. I also get that the media is generally dumb as rocks. But I have to agree with daviski; not only was it bizarre, I think they are doing people a huge disservice by the way they portrayed this. At the least I would have expected a blurb along the lines of "and remember, it's important to be educated before anyone attempts to travel in the backcountry. Take a class blah blah blah say your prayers and have life insurance", at the least. Not too impressed with the reporting. Sounded more like she was interviewing Shaun white about "going big"
