Panasonic plasma. I thought these things were supposed to be indestructible... One of the reasons I bought this TV was the reputation Panasonic plasmas have for longevity.
It was turned on for about 5 minutes then I heard a faint "pop" and the screen went blank and the sound went dead. The power light on the front was still on.
I tried to turn it off with the remote but it wouldn't turn off so I unplugged it. Waited a few seconds then plugged it back in. No power light. Used the power button on the remote and the power light came on and I heard the "click" of the relay or whatever's inside that switches the power but still no pic or sound and it won't respond to the remote or turn back off once the power light is on.
I have it connected through my stereo - that is, the HDMI cable goes from the cable box to the receiver which has 4 HDMI in and 1 HDMI out on the back, then from the receiver to the TV. I tried turning everything off and plugging the cable box directly into the TV but that made no difference. The fact that none of the menus will display on the TV and it won't turn off tells me the problem is in the TV itself.
The weird thing is I get no sound from the stereo when the cable box is plugged into it. Hope whatever went wrong with the TV didn't cause a power surge that popped something in the receiver too...
I did find a repair place that can have a tech here between 12 and 1. They have nothing but 4- and 5-star reviews (and a lot of them) on Yelp and Angie's List so hoping they have the parts to fix whatever it is.
