east or bust have you tried a round of Ibuprofen? 200 mg at each meal for a week. See if that makes a difference.

On a different note (ignoring the upcoming unpleasantness) has anyone got a sense of the weather going forward? Storm maybe on Monday and I found this interesting from accuweather:

While the first week of December brought some reprieve to the region, surges of cold air will bleed eastward through the remainder of the month, according to AccuWeather.com Lead Long-Range Forecaster Paul Pastelok.
Similar to November, the last few weeks of fall will feel like the winter season.
"December looks colder than originally thought in the Northeast," he said.

Wonder what Tim Kelley will think?

Interesting stuff about the possible correlation to meniscus damage and cysts Dave, if you hadn't said anything I would have never even thought about it. Will definitely bring that up when I go in.

The current state of the knee is puzzling to me. It first began to get noticeably painful (mostly dull pain, sometimes sharp) over the summer. Before then it was only slightly discomforting for at most a month and half, and I stopped skiing the first week in April. It has never physically limited me and that's why I waited so long for the mri (stupid on my part). It has never actually bothered me while doing anything physically actually, hockey, biking, hiking, short distance runs; sometimes a bit of pain a day or two after. The worst is extended periods of sitting, then it will hurt afterwards (full extension and full crouch). Also still haven't been on skis yet this season, so I don't know how it will feel on the slopes.

I really have no clue, but enough, I don't want to cunt this thread up with too much injury talk. I have some reading to do in the gimp section.
Are you at UVM? If so, then you are young and anything I say with not pertain to you.

I had sharp left knee pain this AM laying in bed for a solid 5 minutes. What caused it...I'm guessing my arthritis. I had my right knee scoped a couple years ago for meniscus tear, which was my first and only knee procedure. My doc took many photos while prodding around which showed different levels of arthritis all around my knee. I was psyched to hear that

I think that the bottom line is like what everyone has said...smooth, smooth, smooth is the only way to avoid pain, but in the end I think skiers are screwed in general. I did jump a lot when I was younger and landed hard several times, but not nearly as hard as some of my kook friends. I can't imagine what there knees are like now. And this was out west where it was significantly softer and steeper landings typically. These park kids are gonna be screwed.

So, if you're over 40 or maybe even younger I'm guessing that most knee pain is arthritis related.

I'm not a doctor, but I did just drink a Heady Topper.

    There, I feel better now.

Bring your ice skates or ice climbing gear. Mix, then rain, then freeze up. Good for the up but no bueno for the down.

Maybe it is a good policy, but it's hard to be sure...even with a good diagnosis.

    Easy things:
-Never let your shoe heels wear down to a noticable uneveness, replace worn heels early
-Don't ski in the back seat
-Work on core strength AND flexibility

NSAIDs: They have a price, if you need them, things are not good.

Edit: Avoid reading gut-bustingly funny posts from mtnwriter while you a drinking any beverage!

All the knee talk is interesting....at 36 I'm def in preservation mode. One thing that I haven't seen mentioned yet that makes a huge difference for me is body weight. I can fluctuate 10-15 lbs and I notice it big time when on the higher end.

That's said, if I had any heady toppers here I would drink 3 in a row while eating a bacon sandwich. God bless America.

Not a park rat here, but I do like air time. Transitions are the only way to go.

Same age and I've definetly noticed that too. Crazy how the knees can pick up subtle things like a small beer gut or a heavy pack and make you pay for it. But the bacon sandwich, bong hits, heady topper bitch stitch sounds like a hell of a lot of fun to me...

All this knee talk is making me feel old. Trails conditions tonight were loose and frozen granular. Biking is good for the knees.

    That's the bitch of it.

Mid-end of November was such a tease. Warm for the next two events (N VT may escape most of the warmth for the second one?) then jack shit for a while. Maybe something on the 17th? But I just look at the lines and colors on the models while I scratch my head.

    FIFY Rog

December 2000 was the year and continued right through March and into April. Was jumping off old abandoned cars in the woods of Podunk hills.

Most years December is a crap shoot with an obligitary January thaw then maybe the spigot opens feb-mar.

Glad to see some people wanted the board today. Strawjack, I was only looking to save this piece of history from the trash, and it sounds like Magic is going to be the best place for the most people to enjoy it. DoWork, I'll get it to you soon. Please save me first tracks on Red and/or Black. Thanks in advance!

Best December (only) I think was 2008 just for the most incredible refresh clipper action I've ever seen.

edit to add, I thought 2008 was pretty close to 2000. Looks like for one stretch they were identical. Those dumps in 2001 late season were unreal though.

03 was one of the bestest Decembers at the Glen, no crowds, tons-o-snow and a few wet events to help with base layers. Of course it rained foe X-Mas but what else is new.

95/6 was the best ever for late season turns. We had a Memorial day cookout top-o-north and Black Diamond /FIS were top 2 bottom and I skied to my rig parked at the bottom of Exterminator. It was also the year I cracked my head on a branch skiing post season woods at Smuggs and lost a chunk of scalp leading to the purchase of a helmet the following season. BigDaddy says "get a lid".
I wish we could get a long spring again.

36.1` bob up 6 overnight, get some spring skiing in.

Pretty straight forward situation. Something is torn in there. The fragments are getting chewed up during exercise then you are getting swelling after. knee stiffens up as you sit and swells. Ice and Compression (compression is overlooked by alotof people butI think is better for pushing swelling out ofa joint) and rest. Scope the bitch. I was done with resorts after my initial injury in 04. Thought the acl was gone, actually 1/2 tear. I've been aware of the time bomb in the right leg ever since. As far as resorts, can't hardly handle on lap on man made snow without feeling it immediately, but can do 6000 vert day in bc with regularity. Knee injury drove me away from the resorts. Come to find out, that was the best thing I could have done for my ski experiences. Best news from my scope...0 arthritis! Pedal. Pedal. Pedal. Ski.
