    Shhhhhh.....don't give it away.

It's why the hipster scene is so big there. Hipsters have no money.
It is very easy to make a wrong turn in Baltimore, though. If you know where to go, it's cool. Well, still, hot as shit in the summer, but...
Best places to live are just north of downtown. I spend a lot of time in the Hunt Valley, which is actual farms just twenty five minutes from downtown. And, on top of it all, it's a quick ride to DC!

Dude, rents are high in DC because that town is whoring off the rest of America.

that's because of the courtier Phildo mindset. Not going to disagree that Fells Point is "disneyland" but so's much of DC now. And Fells Points cheaper. And nicer.

eesh man it's not that DCs "expensive" as much as it's low value. A bigger place a block from the beach in SoCal was $100 less than my rent in Old Town... 6 years later. Same with most everything else. Sure the museums are free Benny - that's the razor handle they are selling you. The blades are expensive. Unless you are whoring of America.

And they say 2018 for when it opens to Dulles.

True dat. I don't know about 'backwater' and it's more medium than little but, definitely not a city to compare to DC. Spokane's making strides but there's a long way to go to reach its potential as a city. Conversely, I don't know that we would like Spokane to aspire to certain elements of being a bigger city; crime rates (already too high), traffic, etc. We could definitely use some economic stimulus though, by way of greater private investment and growing our aerospace opportunities and other STEM based industries. Spokane really needs to get away from the mind-set of being Seattle's little brother in Washington and progress on its own merits.

Baltimore is what you get when you remove the very few positive aspects of DC. Hot, humid, crime-ridden, ugly, shit hole that still manages to get fucked up winter weather that contributes to ZERO recreational activities. I'd rather live in my own ass.

How much are you paying for the rent in your asshole?

    Thanks. Keep Baltimore Affordable.

Baltimore isn't affordable - it's cheap. And you get what you pay for.

Well, I guess that explains $2000 a month 300 sq ft studios in Manhattan.

Ha! Yeah, the meth problem was definitely stealing a lot of column inches for awhile but, I think it's better now. Or at least the news agencies quit reporting on it. Anyway, it doesn't appear to be as severe as it was five years ago. We've still got issues with the dopes but what city doesn't have some level of miscreant behavior? The downtown area has been revitalized and is actually busier now than 10-15 years ago. I live north of the city and don't get downtown very often, other than during the day for meetings. However, when I've been down there on a Friday or Saturday night for fun, it's been a lot busier than in the time before the past 10-15 years.

What makes Spokane nice for me is four distinct seasons, no humidity, a good river and state park for rafting/kayaking, tons of nice lakes close by. There is very good road and mountain bike riding very close, five decent ski areas within about 90 minutes, and a lot of other great outdoor opportunities (cheap golf, good hunting/fishing). There's virtually no pressure on activities due to not a lot of people.

What amazes me is that we have really great outdoor stuff available but the percentage of the population that actually gets out and takes advantage of it seems really small. I hear people who've lived here all their lives bitching about winter and how much they hate it. Really? It's Spokane, it snows here, it gets cold sometimes. People who don't ski, skate, play hockey, or whatever in the winter really make me wonder. I don't really get what people do in the winter here if they don't ski or do something to occupy their time, taking advantage of all there is to do. I guess they just get off on sitting around and bitching about the snow. Weird.

Good luck finding one for only $2K. Last one I had ran me $2700/month for 250 sq ft. And yes, you get what you pay for. Sure, you could live in Baltimore for 6 months on that - if you call that "living". Might be able to find something within walking distance to an Olive Garden or something.

Baltimore is nicer than DC? So fucking stupid I don't know where to start so I won't.

You have to watch out for white folks in Balmer. Plus they speak Baltimorese which is barely English. Unless the hipsters ruined it which would suck.

How'd we get on the topic of Baltimore anyway?

We almost moved there back in like '94 or so, completely renovated townhouse on Federal Hill with a water view and 3 houses down from the park, about 2 minutes to 95, I think it was $119K they were asking and it had been sitting. New appliances, new roof, new windows, refinished hardwood floors throughout. Wife finally nixed it because of the commute. That place would be worth some money today. I kinda regret that one.

i went out to DC and stayed in the mayflower hotel back in 1999. I was out there doing some network work for some lobbyists for the company i worked for then. (BHP Biliton). They pretty much told me the area is a shithole and don't venture anywhere. Maybe it's changed now. But the people i talked to out there pretty much said crime's bad and 24 year old white dudes just cant be walking around. Was the area I was in pretty bad? They made it sound like i wouldnt be going home, lol. Of course i ventured, but i was a little sketched on entering any bars. I ended up just hanging out at my hotel bar for the night.

Crack. Someone feel free to correct me but that area wasn't any worse than most of DC.
