Yeah, the other resorts aren't even close to Kirkwood's coverage. Too bad 4 is now shut down at KW, because there is still really good coverage back there, and beyond. Really, the stuff Beyond is in fantastic freaking shape. I couldn't believe it - good coverage on due east, southeast, and west aspects out Beyond. No joke.

ottime, bummer dude, hope you made it out for a good skin this afternoon, because tomorrow looks like a gloppy day! Get an early start tomorrow and go after you-know-what face!!!!

    Saturday didn't suck....

Seconding Schralph's thoughts... KW beyond was nice on Saturday, much nicer than it deserved to be. Was showing a friend of a friend from AK around the joint, and was seriously worried when we worked our way over from Timber Creek to the backside in the fog and ice Saturday morning... Hiked out to Covered Wagon by braille, hoping for the best. It was good there, so we said goodbye to the resort until after lunch...

We did the normal run to the lake, then skinned up the far ridge to what'ev that first big nice slightly corniced line is, then back up again to Pipeline to get some sloppy seconds there. Took a look at Cali, but someone had beet us to it as well, and part of it was kinda chunked up from some wet slide activity as Schralph mentioned... Went back to Pipeline area, skipping the topmost little chute as it just didn't look quite as fun getting sloppy seconds in there today. Watch the guys who put first track in hop turn their way through, and decided I would prefer to link up some turns in the good snow next to it. Compliments to the guys who hit it though, 'tis a nice line, and I'm just mad you beat me to it...

kirkwood was not bad at all today. got a late start and went for a hike with the doggy to dangberg. the lower angle trees there were nice with a carvable crust. then three or four laps out in pali which was pretty damn fine, but considerably harder underneath and i cant push it on that stuff with a busted tech fitting on my boot, so while the skiing itself was good, i was skiing apprehensively. then we went and made fun of ottime when the orange truck got there and went back out to dangberg. hit some steeper lines which were a bit crunchier, but still way better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick. fwiw, i heard the heave got about 4-6 and was skiing really well today.
thinking about tallac or desolation tomorrow with an early start since i have to be back at 2:30

I'd a called it 6-8 at Heavenly. Snowing all day. Mott and the face closed, but low angle was skiing better anyway. Seemed suspiciously like a full-on powder day til I logged in here and found out the storm had underperformed.

Sorry that no one could find the goods today. Mainly meadow skipping but lapped this a few times with blower face shots the whole way down

Thanks Unpossible. I've got more footage from Sunday coming. No place to really post it since the Ruby Mtn. threads have been dead since 2011. I figure i'll just post it here since the mood has been pretty negative on the forum lately. I'm sure some will bitch that it's not Tahoe, but oh well.

Great stuff here. I loved the shit-eating heckling. Thanks for the stoke! I'm like a PMSing teenager, this week. Grumpy one min, giggidy the next. I actually considered pulling the SLC trigger tonight as the low is just spinning over the Wasatch. Unfortunately, the high winds forecasted for tonight and tomorrow kept me here. Heard similar rumors about Heave, gonna give it a go tomorrow.

North lake folks ought to check out the Central Sierra thread - Bear has snow, and is free to pass holders - any pass.

Well that's awefully nice of them. I wonder how much snow they really do have - I looked out at the Ebbets range from CP on Saturday ... and it's the worst I've ever seen it. Doesn't bode well for 108 conditions when that thing finally pops.

How many readers here got kicked out of the Cornice parking lot yesterday morning before 9:15 or so?
The parking czar was on some sort of a clueless power trip. Strangest thing yet for Vailwood.

Part 2 was a blast. The snow stopped, the Sun appeared, and fine turns were available out in Sentinal and Pali. Nobody around. Hard to find chair partners.

Till that hiding horizontal tree took out my boots and threw me towards a big one. My wrist and thumb took the brunt of it, but that was the closest that my helmet has come to real use.

Coverage is still Very Good. No reason to close (other than they are not making any money midweek).

    Till the Snow is Gone?

That's cool and I'd love to give it a try (it's been a couple decades), but isn't like a 2 hour drive away?

I bet in a week or so you'll be able to drive over Forestdale and be right there!

Plus one for the Jahroy KT reports. We're drinking the same Kool Aid!

Based on my analysis of regular KT skiers with the biggest shit-eating grins - correlated with the timing and descriptions of your posts - I'm guessing you're riding Dynastars. You dropped your gloves en route to Chute 75 on Saturday, and I momentarily stopped to grab them, but then realized it was opportunity to jump ahead of you into the chute You the guy?

KT was spectacular all weekend, but even you couldn't have given it the thumbs up yesterday. Pretty rude transition. Sunday I was a little concerned at first, but then the thermal magic happened, defrosting that thin plate. Very quickly and suddenly, everything was in play. I agree with you- 100 feet of marginal mank and a shitty runout was a small price to pay for billiard table smooth corn in the Alternates. Lap it up next weekend! Should go to corn cycle again by tomorrow. 'll be announcing the final FarWest mogul comp where the course is set up on Shirley.

    ^ hilarious!

yep, that was me for sure.

yeah, i knew it would be crap on the mothership yesterday...

but at least the cold temps put the rapid melt on hold.

i'm still buzzing from this weekend... so good.

did we ride the chair together this weekend?

(i'm sure we have in the past)

Anyone fishing the Truckee recently? With the warm temps coming, trying to figure out if/when there are hatches. Thanks.

Buddy said the Yuba was fishing good yesterday afternoon.

Maybe you both need to get around a little

jahroy's posts usually are bang on it's just that I've been at another resort so I can make a fair comparison. KT 's goodness was not close to comparable to the harvest I have been skiing here in Nevada. Sure Rose doesn't have the prestige of Squaw but it has had corn, and for that matter, better snow quality pretty much since January. There's a reason my Rose pass and many of the Rose and Squaw pass holders I know, has more days on it than my Squaw pass.

To each his own. The harvest should be smooth and buttery above 8000 feet for the next few days. Enjoy it wherever you are cause it's been GOOD!!!

^^ for me, nothing replaces the west face.

if i can ski west face with soft snow, nothing will make me happier:

    Saturday - Diverse Run Selection

i tend to choose terrain quality over snow quality most of the time.

i have no doubt rose has got the goods, tho...

there's a reason that many of KT's finest now frequent rose.

(though i would say that reason is crowds more than terrain)

i hate that KSL has chased away some of squaw's greatest characters...

i wish rose would stay open later than squaw... i prefer rose over alpine.

i've actually got friends flying in friday from the east coast...

i'm trying to convince them to hit rose monday and tuesday if KT closes.

    Better Than Expected

Haven't been able to post for a while. Sad to see the despondancy rattling around this place
We've been skiing North & South & they've both skied well...mostly...and we haven't stopped yet (although my manager at work just told me I'm out of Vacation Time now )

It is getting muddled, but we were definitely at Sierra on Fri & KW this weekend. It was cool to get a little precip. Sierra was excellent fun (not West Bowl)!
The stuff at KW that was nice on Sat was crusty on Sun, but not everywhere. Yeah, good times over on Fawn Ridge.

Enjoyed Squaw when we were there (over a week ago now, with TeleMike). Got a pic of Cinders in The Funnel to post.
I guess Emigrant is closed now?

Anyway, Zee Plan is for us & The Bus to be at Sugarbowl tomorrow, and Squaw on Friday.
And then, prolly at Sierra on Sat & KW on Sun (or maybe Sugarbowl & Alpine) phew!

We could do with a ride from Sierra to KW on Saturday after closing if anyone could help us out?
But figure that is one hell of a long-shot (is Monitor Pass open at all?)

Or how about a ride down to SLT from Sierra on Sat, and up to KW on Sunday morning? Anyone?
Of course we will ply you with money, etc., if you can give us a lift.

Yeah, so will prolly end up just riding the SkiBus up & down. "Oh my aching back"
It's the end of the BayAreaSkiBus Season this weekend, but they are hoping for a few more TBD's...

Made a few turns at the Heav this afternoon. Twas Windy and chilly as Puck up top, but pretty with the frosted trees. There was some dense but carvable fluff in the trees on either side of Litz's. Other areas were pretty hardpacked and scratch. For some reason I felt like I was riding in Maine.

As far as I know you can't buy six year olds at Kirkwood. ;-)

But yeah, the way they hide their prices is ludicrous. OTOH, if you were charging $100+ for a ticket, wouldn't you be a little embarrassed about it too?
