I've managed a pretty good season (so far), and yesterday afternoon was fun. I'm not complaining.

I'll be around 7800 when your done. There is a rail jam & a couple of bands playing. One of the bands are some friends of mine so we'll be hanging out partying. If anyone is into Reggae/ska/punk mix you should check out Arden Park Roots out of Sacramento.

Schralph give me a call or stop by 7800 for some beers when your finished.

I'll be at Alpine on Monday for what may be our last "pow" day of the season. Anyone who wants to meet up, PM me (probably won't check in here before then).

Posted this in my TR, but figured I'd drop it here, too. Lots of hiking with a short butter run a the end.

^^^^I got to 2 minutes and gave up. Next time edit that shit out. Thanks
Never in U.S. history has the public chosen leadership this malevolent. The moral clarity of their decision is crystalline, particularly knowing how Trump will regard his slim margin as a “mandate” to do his worst. We’ve learned something about America that we didn’t know, or perhaps didn’t believe, and it’ll forever color our individual judgments of who and what we are.

Went for a local hike this p.m. with low expectations but was pleasantly surprised. Northern aspects had funnish wintery wind-packed pow and western and southern aspects had nice corn with not too much crap snow between.

    This winter still sucked though.

Went for a hike this morning in the bc around Bear Valley and found a little winter. Snowed lightly, cold, never saw the sun. Beautiful day, but above 8K everything was very firm. Fortunately, everything was also very smooth as well. As we dropped below 8000' we found some rotten snow on westerly aspects. Not great for turns, but nice to feel a little weather. Hope we got a much bigger dose tomorrow night.

Man, if the cloud ceiling lifted over CP well before noon, today would have been damn near epic. Great mix of windblown, windpacked pow, porn that was dried out by the cold wind but softened by the warm snow - all day window out in the BC. Buttery smooth and really great chuting snow.

Went up into a NE bowl I figured to be holding windblown, protected snow - and I was right. But I couldn't see much past my poles if I extended them in front of me, and had to poke around in front of me just to see how steep of a track I was setting. So I bailed on that for some full on Helen Keller skiing (worse than Lassen, Dooks). And bailed on the moon. And bailed on RT saddle - totally socked in. Couldn't even see the lower cliffs of the Sisters while skinning across Round Top Lake! Navigating by compass at times. Good stuff while out solo

Once I wrapped around closer to Kirkwood, things broke up and got some 3 great laps in and still made last call on Iron Horse. Overall, really good skiing out there today. Cali chute is full of avi debris BTW.

    Oh yeah,

Was pretty prime on Friday as well, though the lower third was a bit sloppy. The bushwack back to the lift, however, wasn't as much fun.

    incredible.

not sure if it's possible, but it will be awesome if they try.

can't believe how awesome both days were this weekend.

snow on Donner and most ridiculous over reacting chain control ever. stopped at Jongvale for 1" if slush. unbelievable.

no snow coming down once off the summit or over brockwat. I'd try to be west of the crest tomorrow for most snow.

I wrecked a 4Runner in an inch of slush near Colfax once year--sudden squall, chain controls were off, I was still in 4, doing about 45. The chains are to slow folks down, especially on the downgrade--that one inch of slush is worse than a foot of cold snow. But then I used to fishtail that POS on dry pavement. Worst handling 4WD ever. And I grew up driving rear wheel drives without snow tires back in Michigan. Snowing lightly at Donner Lake. Very lightly.

No doubt it would make my last visit to Squaw this season a little more exciting. Getting pretty sporty down low though.

I haven't made it over to Alpine in a few weeks now, anybody know how coverage is over there?

Frontside is good, including the groomers to the lodge. Upper mountain skied well, considering. Scott Chute still goes. Sherwood and Lakeview were closed yesterday (Saturday)--pretty sure they're almost totally burnt.

^ Thanks, no surprise on Sherwood/Lakeview, but good to here things are holding up down near the lodge. I'll probably be poking around there at some point next weekend.
