I'll be at Squaw on Friday and Saturday but was hoping to fit in a quick skin there if possible one morning. (Squaw is opening the upper mountain on Thanksgiving, BTW).
Not sure about this, but looking for somewhere to go with current scarcity of lake-level snowpack. If you want to skin Sunday, hit me up.

Local Intel: just saw two bikes riding a car (with humans inside), turning off for Dirty Harry

I'm thinking Mt Rose recon Sunday if you want to join up. Might head south to since most only reports are from CPSR

mountains looked like they were glazed today. p-house is really good if you're into character building. it rained to the top and set up into a sweet trap crust. i would suggest embracing the sun if you can find coverage on those aspects.

Yeah things were a bit glazed at Squaw today. For example, here's Shirley Lake's main bowl just before noon. About that time, southern exposures were beginning to soften.

There was some surprisingly good skiing today east of Bear Valley resort. Very thin on anything southerly, but very dense and firm from the rain. Good turns were found on mellow, east facing pitches. Anything too steep is already boney. Midmorning runs skied like corn. Anything after noon was more like corn mush, but still fun. Able to ski the southerly facing ridges back to the car without any hits. Might last another day, but the warm weather will breed rocks very quickly.

10/11 at the Wood open tomorrow. I poked around a bit in wagon wheel, and I'm kind of surprised they are popping 10. Staff was up there today, so I imagine the right aspects will be fine. I get out at some point and check it out. 6 was pretty solid most of the day, but if eagle is open.

surprised because of the snowpack, or the boilerplate?

the potential conditions remind me of this tr from 2009, which was an awesome day. i think the crust is a bit thicker now though.

The boilerplate. This crust, at least where I got myself to (around mid Way down Sisters zone) was more than a bit thicker than that crust of which you speak. I was hoping for broken glass, but found almost boilerplate. Remember, I'm from NY, and there is no ice outside New England.

My buddy watched a group come down Headwaters, and from hi vantage at the top of 5, he said it looked soft. So, I am guess the upper Wall may not be as bad as other spots. Maybe 10 will be decent up top. Maybe. I do bet Buckboard will be fun.

Surprised with how well 10 skied. Don't get me wrong, it was pretty shitty. Getting on the lift the attendant offers the warning of "kinda chunky, so don't go all out.". It is breaking up a bit and further down and at least has some dust on some breakable crust feel going. The three groomers off 11 are fun for my LPs. Too bad they are at home. Rock skis have a very soft edge these days. The Eagle has flown the coop and the sun is a softening. All in all, while crusty and firm or soft and thin, it is fun. Keep getting back on the lift.

The mountain biking in Tahoe is phenomenal right now on whats not covered by snow. Connector is snow free till the flat section on top before it goes into the trees, Corral, Sidewinder, Incense ceder all snow free and riding super fast. Cold creek just has a few patches before the bridge, and is mostly rid-able up to High Meadows, even got to the new Monument pass trail today!

I'm in the Lake Almanor region right now and was wondering if there's any powder to be found in Cali somehwere. I'm super close to Mount Lassen, which looks very good and covered in snow, but I'd rather ski some pow the first day of the season, if that's possible.

No pow in Tahoe. Maybe Lassen or Shasta. Not sure how this last stormed fared up there. Pretty sure Mammoth did not get the rain, but the snow is about a week plus old.

Several inches of liquid with snow levels 7500 plus. Maybe McConkey's water ski idea will make a return if all we ski this year is deluge.

Not to panic, but last year it all blew away after Thanksgiving and this year it looks to get washed away. I'm totally panicking.

You are skiing too low. It is a high altitude sport.

That would be a bummer though, especially when you consider the flooding.

Have yet to read BAs report. Off to that next, but the models I looked at last night suggest wet, warm and sloppy, but by Sunday, she gets cold and mean with another inch of water by Monday. Could be perfect base builder for the higher elevation.

Edit: dude, chill. Looks like it comes in warm, but drops to lake level and gives us plenty. At least that is what it looks like a week out. Unless you are worried about the band coming through Wednesday night. Ignore that one. Things look good for now.

And truth be told 10@kw is skiing better and better. Held up all day, and with an inversion things hopefully did not set up

    Keep it positive folks.

80F here in Southern California today, and the most epic climbing weather I've ever had in Joshua Tree for the last week. Lots of classic routes done, IPAs drank, camp-roasted turkey and veggie loaf slayed ... Now I'm ready for the next Tahoe storm - snot, glop or pow!

Skiing in the morning followed by mtb in the afternoon...in the basin, yeah I'm ok with that. Fuck looking for work, I'll do that tomorrow....

We'll get what's coming but it looks like a net gain to me on the next system, potentially a really nice net gain. I'm happy with whats going on at the wood now, considering it's still pretty early.

I'm sure the back end of the storm will be good, but Friday is my only window to get up there for a bit. The 7400 snow level NOAA is forecasting for Friday has me thinking the day trip I was planning isn't such a great idea.
