Coyote Problem

I hear them every night this year ( due to a mild winter?) up on the ridge behind my house but they never bothered us. Last week they seemed a bit closer. Tonight the dog goes nuts, I turn the tv down and there are Coys right out front. I remember cat#2 is outside and grab a headlamp and book out the door. The Coys are yelping away at the end of my driveway and the cat is under one of the cars and tears into the house. I have heard that if they have found a potential food source they can be persitant. I have the firepower to take em out but I'm not really into to shooting them. In fact I think they are cool looking animals but our pets are family. Any ideas folks?

I have a friend who lives remotely in AK. He occasionally has issues with black bears. His preferred method is to tag them with a shotgun. He removes the shot and replaces it wax. He says it is an effective deterrent. Similar to a rubber bullet.

Yotes killed my neighbor's pit bull a couple years ago. Those little fuckers can be pretty aggressive; take 'em out.

Yea I know. The guy is an outdoor beast though. Daytime is no problem but I will be keeping him after dark. He always spends the night inside after 9pm.

We have the same coyote movie going on at my house. I worry more about my 6 year old than the cat. I also worry more about the local mountain lion than the coyotes. Bears don't bother me. The 'coons worry me more than just about anything. They'll make a bigger mess than just about anyone else in the forest. And a 40 pound coon could kick your ass.

The Coys are showing up just after dark...I guess I'm going to have to walk the aussie shepperd too instead of just letting him out before bed.

agreed and i deal with all these critters and big ole eagles eyeballing my animals as well.
the bandits are the most aggressive coming right up to the door if big dogs are inside.

Coons are NASTY when provoked. I used to hunt them as a kid; our black-n-tans would tree 'em; we'd shine 'em and shoot between the glowing eyes. If we didn't get a kill shot, 25 pounds of pissed-off, clawed, toothed muscle would come falling out of the sky. I only had to deal with a bloody, messed-up dog once to learn that I must NOT miss that kill shot.

I *know a guy* who came home to a couple of coyotes outside his sheep pin. That guy keeps a 30-30 above his door for special occasions. The coyotes don't come around his house anymore. Especially the one that was dumb enough to stick around.

I don't condone killing for sport or any other reason than food or protecting your food.

i remember hearing "thump,thump,thump,thump" while hanging out on the golf course round dusk, having a few beers. I see these two dogs heading down the fairway towards us. Turns out to be a massive black lab driving a coyote all the way from, to and past us on the fairway.

the fuckers must've been at top speed for the 2-300 yards. It was quite a scene. Almost cartoonish. Lab halted as soon as the thing went into the brush, remarkably enough. I was shocked and madly impressed. Fastest shit i've ever seen. I think the lab would've won the fight, despite being such happy friendly beasts, they're no slouches.

.223's are fun but fckn loud.

#6 Turkey loads have a nice tight pattern, if they are 50 plus yards out it should pepper them good enough to get the message across...

Inside of 35-40 and that is probably a dead yote.
