snow aside... are we close enough to tell when the first real cold front will come, where days won't exceed +/- 55....?

Do I detect a lot of anger flowing around this place? Kind of like a pubescent volatility, some angst, a lot of I'm-sixteen-and-angry-at-my-father syndrome?
fuck that noise.
gmen.
Long term forecasts show continued dry and above average temps thru OCT.

certainly feels like fall here, trees are changing and it felt much colder than usual this morning.
Aspen's are just starting on Indy, but Fremont was well under way.
July and August have seen average or better than normal precipitation in vail. So much better than 2002's entire summer of drought until October. Confused why anyone in the vail area would be pessimistic. Last two months numbers and feel sure seem like a pattern change to me compared with January through June this year. El niño brings a decent chance of average snowfall (in Vail), though it's more likely to come from a few big storms instead of the consistent snowfalls that spoiled us in the 2010-2011 winter.

it's been an average rain summer in Vail. Our current pattern is a typical summer pattern and doesn't have much to do with what is coming or not coming in the winter. The moisture we've received in the mountains have been monsoonal rains aided by lift from the mountains. It hasn't been because of some big overall shift with storms coming in from the west coast. The PNW, and most of the west coast has remained hot and dry all summer. Long term forecasts show that trend to continue at least thru the end of October.
That doesn't mean we can't or won't get some early snows or early cold weather, it just means the overall pattern should remain the same for awhile.

Rained for a while last night in W Vail (assuming it did on vail mtn also)
It's been in the mid 30s every morning this week at my place @ 8600' east of the divide. There's been frost on the cars but none on the grass. On the other hand, at work (8600' along the Blue River north of Silverthorne) It's been in the upper 20s with heavy frost on the ground every day this week. I snapped this photo from the highway on my way in this morning.

biggest cold front of the season so far this week. NOt sure of the exact path or how much moisture is with it, but I'd expect some temps in the 20s up high and perhaps snow down to maybe 10k or so if there is moisture iwth the front.
Ground squirrels were all over the place on my ride this morning. I like to see those little buggers gathering like crazy!

Dry, hot, and bluebird here in Fort Collins which has been the theme lately. Some clouds would be nice but I think that is too much to ask.
Spent Saturday night camping @ 10,900 ft up near Booth Lake at the foot of the Gore. PERFECT weather during Saturday & Sunday. Temps dropped pretty quickly at night, thankfully we built a fire and had a fifth of Basil Haydens to stoke the internal flame. Saturday night temps must have dropped into the 20's. Heavy frost on the ground at 7AM when I awoke. Damn it felt good to be COLD again. I swear hundreds of Aspens turned literally overnight. In the area where we went Aspens are at about 60% of peak color. The next 2 weeks should be good.
I too spent Saturday night camping, up at Chicago Lakes around 11.5k and temps were in the upper 20's around 1am. Woke up to heavy frost on everything and proceeded to fish. Things warmed up to 55-60ish with the sun pretty quick.
snow possible above 13,000' in the western CO mountains!!!
