I was lifting properly, but one day my legs would be fatigued, my upper body would be stronger, or vice versa. Just proper weight training doesn't always mean you'll be better at golf. Ask Angel Cabrera, Miguel Angel Jiminez, John Daly, Tom Watson, Tom Kite, Bubba Watson, Ernie Els, Jim Furyk, Fred Couples, Vijayjay Singh... Shall I go on?
Most of those players you mention train hard.

It is impossible to gain 30 lb's of muscle in a year. If you can gain more than 5lbs of lean muscle you are superman. All you did was hang thirty pounds of fat on a stronger body. Maybe that was the problem?

Gym almost every day, puberty, creatine... not impossible. I was yoked. Also, typo, 155 was the number.

    On to important issues....

My list of golfers to watch this tourney:

    Padraig
    Westwood
    Fowler
    Garcia
    Ross Fisher
    Paul Lawrie
    F. Molinari
Luke Donald - I hate referring to this guy, but he seems to always place in the top 20 in this tourney, and a first time major winner has won this tournament for 9 consecutive years.
    Kuchar
    Schwartzel
    Oozy
    Stenson
    Zach Johnson
    Ross Fisher
...and maybe Ernie Els since he tied for 3rd at this course last time.

I know that's a long list, but it's an open.

the first 3 are freakish talents + natural strength

Watson & Kite are technique perfectionists with crazy hand/forearm strength

    Bubba is Bubba (plenty strong)

Els and Furyk and Singh are notorious HARD workers, gym and on the range

Freddy is maybe the only guy I could see your point on, he's more like Angel and Miguel with the natural athletic ability and strength. Not sure how much gym time he puts in (too busy with the ladies?)
... jfost is really ignorant, he often just needs simple facts laid out for him...

Couples has had too many back issues during his career to work out a lot, but it's not like he's out of shape.

Bubba Watson definitely works out - a lot.

Do you play a chunk shot from a hard pan lie ?

My father in law invited me out to play Colorado National this morning and I just got back. That course could not be in any worse shape. I know Mofo said that a while back but I thought it had been enough time for them to get their shit together. They haven't. There were 4 or 5 fairways and areas surrounding the greens were there was no grass whatsoever, turf had been lifted and waiting to be refilled, broken drainage/irrigation ditches going through the fairway forcing them to dig trenches, and someone poured bleach on 4 or 5 of the greens so they have had to regrow new ones from scratch, 1 is a temporary green, and some of the others are now painted green. This course was in perfect shape last year, and this year has been awful to them. It was so bad that I asked the pro shop for a 9 hole raincheck, but they totally understood and were cool with it. The guy in the pro shop was actually thankful I wasn't a dick about it, said he'd been getting pretty beat up over it. I'll give them another shot in September, but I don't think it can get better before then.

It was a tale of two 9's for me. On the front nine I tried to fix my swing a bit. I was trying to lay off, flatten it out at the top because I've been crossing the line and hitting a huge 80 yd fade with the driver, but the irons have been great with that swing. Straightened out the driver, irons were shit. So on the back nine I used both swings, flat with the driver, steep with the irons. I had 2 birdies and 4 lip outs for birdies. On fire, but the greens were shit. 41, 36 on a 7600 yd course. My favorite was a 235 yd 4h from thick rough, sitting down, slight fade, ran right past the cup. Left the putt a roll short. Again, shitty, painted green.

Dude, 41-36 out there on that dog track isn't bad whatsoever. Sounds like it's actually in worse shape now than it was five weeks ago, damn.

Wife and I are heading out to try to squeeze in a quick round on Hyland South.

Has anybody tried any plate stripping and oxidizing with their irons before? I have a set of Mizuno MP33's I want to refinish myself, and I plan on black oxide or bluing the raw metal for the long haul. I have done a lot of research on the Google's, but first hand experience (if anyone has any) is usually best.

Nope. I soda'd a putter one time to make a Scotty silver because my oil can finish would rust up or something with a fresh coat of fertilizer, but other than that, nothin.

One of my favorite shows. I currently have 16 of them on my dvr. Great way to see some courses without dropping $75 to see if you like it.

Just finished my 1st of 2 3 day member guests this year. The IV is still in my arm. Had the best caddy around on the bags, what a trip. I just invited him into my head during the practice round and he dialed me for the rest of the weekend. we were in it til the last hole. good stuff. My moring routine was taking my coffe out to the bar and dumping it inot a to go cup with ice and a shot of jack. It's all about finding your comfort zone and staying in the moment. Apparently jack helps me stay in the moment.

For the afternoons Jack & Coke is a great mix while golfing. The JD mellows you out, but the coke (same effect as coffee) will keep you from getting tired or drowsy. In my experience, anyway.

I like Hawaii courses. I've mostly stayed in the Wailea area, playing all of the Wailea courses and Makenna. Haven't ventured over to the windy side. Was it windy for you? My only beef w/ Hawaii courses is there driving ranges. Always seems like I'm hitting on the worst turf ever. Just a few blades of grass and dirt. I don't think it can regrow fast enough for the amount of use it gets.

Yep, it's about finding the middle, keep a cigar handy to chomp on and light if the pressure raises.... Those Brazilian cart girls had my # by the end of the weekend. Transfusions for the caddy, jack and cokes for moi. In one extreme occasion we jammed some big shots of bourbon with the other team after they just won a hole, they didn't win any more..... I love this shit.

The wind didn't bug me too much. I expected worse. It only threw the ball twenty yards in whatever direction, but the holes are so big that it doesn't hurt you. my only gripe was that for some unknown reason they had recently sanded the greens effectively making them totally inconsistent. i was a three put master. Had about seven legit par putts and made two. Would like to play more, but its too Damn expensive and the snorkling is too much fun

they aerated and sanded the greens here yesterday and now they won't be playable for a month according to one of the greens keepers. they made false greens on the fairway in front of the real ones. can't put for shit on them. oh well, lots of time to practice.
