Best of luck to ya. If you make it, it'd be nice to spend some time practicing or caddying for you pre tourney so I could learn your game and actually help. Unless you're the type that just wants a caddie to shut up and carry the bag, which is also fine.

You are old. Haven't rolled a joint since high school. I'm out. Unless you can live with a sweet blunt rolled with one of these bad boys...

so how do you figure that out before you buy? i'm only looking at sellers that allow returns, but given how little i know about golf equipment, i'm sure i'm a sucker waiting to happen.

edit: anybody have any comment on the s9s? i want to get something that i can play and improve with for a long time, not something that is going to merely allow me to get away with having crappy technique (i get the impression that is the idea behind the game improvement clubs?).

I dunno, I think we discussed this very topic a few pages back... it is a tough call, but if you really want to improve and are going to put in the time, I'd get something a little more advanced than a resort-rental club. Just MHO, but even one step up in the cobra line, to a mid-range iron (IIRC the S3 is their current SGI club, so one up the chain from that) will give you the ability to continue to improve and start to get into shotmaking, instead of just hitting it straight. The good part is if you stick to a year-old model, the price wont be that much more vs SGI clubs. A good example from TM is their burner 2.0 set. Not as SGI as the Burner Plus, but still forgiving and easy to hit well. on sale most places for $349-399... can you hit up a golftec place when you get home? They have a pretty cool club fitting session that checks out your swing parameters and recommends a set semi-custom for you. They are often inside Golfsmith stores and for awhile you could get the price of the session credited if you bought irons (not sure if that is a current offer) check them out!

for me, it is worse than skiing in that department! For the most part I can hit the slopes and let it flow, but I'm not there in golf yet - too much thinking, but then that is part of the fun/challenge!

after reconsidering, i am probably better off getting something comparable to what i am using here for cheap and worrying about getting better clubs when i've demonstrated my commitment to improving. the s9s are a ton better than my clubs at home and i can't really afford to fork out $350 for better irons if i can get something like the s9s for less than half that. i think that by the time i'm worried about shot shaping instead of hitting straight, i'll know a lot more abput the equipment and it won't feel like so daunting a task.

i definitely think the golftec thing is a good idea though.

Can't you guys all just realize he's beyond help. This guy is waaay worse than the, "which ski boots should I buy online?" people. Good deals are out there on good clubs, jesus christ. The ping eye 2's were a good suggestion, and I'm pretty sure they were talked about over 20 pages ago by TahoeJ and myself. Not to mention you could probably pick up some Ping i/3's these days for $175 or less. Boooo, how do I tell the difference between cobras and cobra knock offs from china on eeebay, bagooo, bagooo? Stop pissing your fucking money away and buy a set of clubs you fucking pansy. Jesus Christ.

Beginner tip - Do not confuse "swing speed" (bad) with "club head speed" (good).

hey dumbfuck, if i knew what clubs were good ones, i wouldn't be asking for help. i've been playing golf for a total of maybe 8 months over 3 years with the same shitty clubs and i've been reading a shitload about technique, not gear. i doubt very seriously you were a gear expert at this point in your illustrious golf career which has led you to feel superior on a message board instead of the pga tour.

20 pages ago i was not here yet and had not played with decent clubs, so of course i would have no context for any recommendation at that point. i have no idea how cobra compares to ping compares to callaway and i don't want to make a $300 mistake that could have been easily avoided by asking people who might be willing to share their knowledge.

if somebody tells me to be VERY CAREFUL about knockoffs on ebay, the next reasonable question would be "how the fuck do i tell the difference." finally, i'm not pissing any money away because i rented these clubs for $20.

nobody here is obligated to answer my questions. some people like discussing the minutiae of the activities they enjoy. i happen to be one of them. if you're not, then run along and play with skiballs and i'll take what i can get here. i don't expect much worth listening to coming from someone with a dumbass quote from blurred.

I realize it's a dumb quote from Blurred. That's why it's there. It's there because of my extreme disapproval of it. It's an attempt to expose him as a truly awful human being. If you enjoy the minutiae of the activities you enjoy, why don't you read the whole thread. It appears as though you have the time to do so.

hilarious. your previous post sounded a lot like him. i have read a lot of thread over more than once because i know more now than i did a month ago. i know more now than i did two weeks ago. in addition to posting and reading here, i've been reading pelz short game bible, hogan's five fundamentals, and penick's little red book. i've also been playing or practicing 3-5 hours 5 days a week. i've also been taking lessons. so you'll have to forgive me if i don't have as much time as you think i do and that on occasion i try to take a break from it and just be a normal asshole here like everybody else. if you don't like my style of asking for information, put me on ignore. i couldn't give a lesser shit.

i'm not a gear whore and since there seems to be 100 different versions of the same thing by 6 different companies, i'm sure you can understand why it my be a daunting task to the novice. thanks for your sharing what you have in your bag.

    High fucking losserios ,
Here's a guy that adds nothing to the thread , does nothing for any of the Mags , yet demands other peoples help and knowledge on his terms .
I suggest no one help this asshole until he donates some time and effort to junior golf , disabled golfers or something that helps others .

Spook, just go hit some balls or have a beer. The right club will not overcome a shitty swing. With a good swing and mental attitude, one can score with a crooked tree branch. If you bought the most expensive set that was dialed in by a club fitter just for you, you would still suck.

Beginner tip - After every poor shot, laugh out loud.

After getting angry at the outcome of a poor swing/shot once my 7 handicap partner chastised me. "Wooley, your not good enough to get mad."

Yeah, which is why you should not grind over equipment too much. There was no way for you to know at your beginning level, no worries IMO.

Ping irons bought USED on Ebay for a decent price will most certainly not be fake. But, brand new for 200 bux, might very well be fake from any big name manufacturer.

Last week I just got a new set of Titleist 712 MBs with some KBS C-Taper shafts.

My swing finally came together this year, even with too much travel and spotty play early on. Off to play some golf in the dry heat.

you must have shared this earlier because i keep it in mind all the time and have shared it with several people. i'm having a great time and learning a lot and get frustrated less and have been able to self correct reasonably well in the past week on the driving range. i'm also playing the course more intelligently and avoiding and/or extricating myself from trouble more efficiently. i've had 2 outings right around 50 for the front 9 here and will have a few chances to try to break 100 over 18 before we leave even we don't extend our stay.

i'm off to practice and play 18 as soon as the kid wakes up.
