    Lazy TR: The Nipple 6/10/12

Hit up The Nipple with Vets on Sunday. The snow was creamy goodness. Eastside lines are burnt at the bottom already but the west side lines are longer than ever. I am just posting one pic as a teaser here...otherwise the TR is at UnofficialAlpine.com.

Another great day of corned bliss on Sunday near RoundTop. Sooooooooo incredibly smooth with only suncups showing up on the flat zone next to Lake Winnemucca. Temps were cooler than expected on Sunday so we bailed on the skier's left wall of middle Sister due to a firm practice run on a similar aspect.

Summit of Round Top - June 10th, 2012 (patches of new snow from last Monday night's storm)

Just below the rocks looker's right of Moon Crescent. Took this all the way to Winnemucca. SMOOTH!

View of our cornfield on exit...

    Full TR to follow....

Will be hiking up something Thursday somewhere in CPSR.
    Maybe the Wall tomorrow afternoon.
Bella and I would love some company.
    Let me know.

I have a friend that was climbing right next to this party and did the initial rescue and medical support. Sounds like a very unfortunate and avoidable incident.

"He fell after his climbing partner failed to secure an adequate belay" is frustratingly vague. It is good to spread information about this accident so others can avoid similar mishaps. Vibes regardless of mag status. Watch out for each other.

I hate those things. Makes for lazy belay-monkeys. And if you don't use it properly, it's too easy to drop someone.

    1. Nice titular alliteration

    2. Nice color coordination between your gloves & skis: supreme fashion steeze to the max

    3. This thread will stumble on until the next snowfall as this will be a serious patch action summer

Any Carson pass areas still holding? I was thinking about a camping/patch skiing session this coming weekend. Milking the nipple perhaps? Vets? I know you know where the goods are....

    Hoss,

Here are my best guesses based on what I have seen from a distance and felt up close recently.
The Nipple patches, like a bra, are lifing and separating (actually getting shorter and smaller, but should still be skiable.)
Lost Lakes might still be a go for a few short runs.
The Patches proper should be a go for a while longer. (Note that the road above Forestdale Creek has gotten a lot rougher each year - there is a very deep road runnel just below "The Right Patch.")
Roundtop/Sisters looks like it is still holding snow very well.
Elephant's Back looks like a couple of separate patches instead of a bowl.

I don't know if this is a good thing or a bad thing, but it's definitely true. I made it to Lost Lakes from 88 in a '70 VW van about 20 years ago . Three years ago it was pretty rough going coming from Blue Lakes in my Tundra- and that used to be the easier way. Too many people up there now anyways. Maybe it's a good thing.

And Hoss, couple of weekends ago we camped at the creek and patched from there (only skied the first patch. It was perfect). Nice camping on the creek and the mosquitoes were non-existent.

Thanks for the beta everyone. However my partner-in-crime and I have decided to pull a switcheroo & head to Lassen for the weekend. Hopefully I will have some decent pics to post on Monday. Glad to see some people are still skiing.
