Here's some stoke, just a few stills taken off Gopro.

    Dropping into the Dive:

    A friend sends it:

Lamothe enjoying a pretty rocky fatboy traverse:

    A very deep Hayes Hill:

The cam (not to mention my face) was too obscured by the fluffy white stuff to bother posting anything from the turns on the rest of the way down:

    OB - turn, faceshot, turn:

Long time lurker, first time poster.. Figured its time to contribute, so here's some stoke from Saturday.

Blue jacket, grey pants and black full face helmet. Say hi if you see me on the hill. Im based out of Calgary so mostly ski SSV and Kananaskis, but im stoked on exploring other terrain.

Unless you're kidding, in which case I am very tall and very cheap, too cheap to buy stuff that actually comes in "tall", so I'm usually swimming in fabric to get the length I need.
Oops, thought that was an actual photo of you passed out on a pool table.

Ah. Now I see. I'm a bit slow.

There are pictures of me passed out on quite a variety of furniture. Not a pool table though, not that I remember at least.

That wasn't me, I was in there just after 2pm on Sunday. As much as some guys on here think I'm a jaded asshole I would definitely stop to help. Last season I got myself into an interesting situation just further west up the ridge from there. Fun terrain though.

As for being core and gnar, yes. And here I thought I was doing a better job on here of being less of an ass as of recent, I guess not. But hey look on the upside, now I introduced some of you guys to an area you may have never hit before. Enjoy.

My distaste for the Calgarians has been brought upon by themselves. Don't get me wrong, a lot of Goldenites have profited from KH and things associated with the tourism it brought/brings. It woke up a sleepy little town. However on the flip side a great deal of people had to leave town too as they cannot afford to buy a house for their families now (not that this is any different from any other resort evolution). This will change again with time as the market has been stale here for 4 or 5 years now and the prices haven't really budged.

Now to unfairly paint all Albertans with the same brush. Although to support me, Alberta has achieved the title of Canada's worst drivers (which baffles me as the lower mainland is bad). Anyways, SLOW THE FUCK DOWN AND PAY ATTENTION, it's not HWY 2! Every year there are on average 5-10 fatalities on the roadways around Golden, most are preventable, where speed and inattention are the usual causes. Unfortunately 90% of the time it's a red plate at the cause. It's not a fucking race. There is a good reason why the cops always radar EB traffic on the tail end of weekends and long weekends, there's a red plate reputation around here. This displeasure partly comes from the Calgarian two years ago who was texting on his cell phone while crossing the centre line on HWY 1 only to pick my best friend for the last 30 years off his motorcycle in the oncoming lane. He was apparently hammering out a multimillion dollar business deal with his partner via text. C6 fracture with paralysis from the nipples down (no hands either). Bye bye ski, bike and hike buddy. Now I just go visit a depressed guy who wishes he was dead. This has filled me with a bit of animosity. Anyways, sad stories aside, I've had had my share of many close calls with idiots too, it's unfortunate that most of them happen to be with red plates driving like morons.

As for the punters, one only needs to ride the gondy on the weekend to experience 20 minutes of diarrhea coming from some people's mouths. It gets old fast when you hear it 8+ times a day. Not to mention traversing Timmy and side slipping Sally. However, it's these types that keep the lifts spinning. Yes I know that Calgary/Alberta has some rad skiers and that's great, nothing like sharing a gondy with someone who has some passion for the sport however, that's the exceptional ride as opposed to the norm. Change is always met with resistance and I guess that I'm just slower at accepting it than others (you would think I would have it after 10+years of KH but I guess I'm just special needs). I'll get there eventually but for now, you poor souls can take the brunt of my displeasure With unconfirmed rumours of a POMA lift already purchased by RCR to replace the Pioneer this will help me get there even though that means the old lady will get thrashed quicker than ever before.

    Ride on!

    end rant.

Nope, just trying to give you a strategy to beat the line-up that I hear so often complained about on here. I'm core/local enough that I don't need to announce it, they know hahahaha. As for Golden, even if you've been here 25+ years your not considered a local yet by some; you need a last name like Feuz or Braisher to be considered in that club. I'm okay with that. I just call it like I see it.

Really? Most of the red plates I see are the ones with the brakes on the whole way down the hill to Golden. Speed the fuck UP so I don't have to pass your slow ass.

I won't lie and say that I never text, but I wait till the road is straight and there's no-one coming. If I'm not done by the time a corner or person comes into view, I actually huck the phone into the passenger seat. Sorry to hear about your buddy, bad shit happens to good people all the time.

I love the 20 minutes of diarrhea, if not for some very eager and loud kid, I would never have found rock garden. I just shut my mouth and let him divulge it all to his buddy.

Speaking of expansion, does anybody know where you can still see a copy of the KH master plan? I've tried to get it a few times, but all the links seem to be dead. Any word if RCR is going to continue on that plan, or ditch it and make their own?

Haha, that reminded me of when we were teens going to Fernie and saying we were part of the Hutchy clan to gain immediate acceptance.

Still looking for Golden/Revy on hill accommodation recommendations, something good value and nice for the girl and me. Gripen or Goldenshowers, if theres any establishments the "locals" would prefer to endorse, let me know.

As a jaded 'local' I'll chime in on this one. If it's just the two of you, a house may not be the fiscally best option, however with that said you may be able to contact an owner through VRBO who may give you a good price. There is also Lush Mountain Properties which is a resort home management company here in Golden. If they have no one booked they can be eager to rent it and give you a decent price.

Personally I would avoid the Winston (formerly Highland Lodge) as they have a bad rap with many contractors in town (i.e. many unpaid bills, etc.). I'm not sure if their under new management or ownership however, regardless that place has a bad taste in many people's mouths. Copper horse has beautiful big rooms if you like the ski lodge approach. I have never been in the rooms at the Vagabond but attended a few x-mas parties there and the 'living' areas are really nice. Plus Ken and Lorie Chillebeck are great hosts.

Glacier and Mountaineer are your average hotel rooms unless you get a loft or one with a kitchen (no pool and only a couple of small hot tubs for each building). The Palliser is a bit better as you can get one with a hot tub on your deck. You could also look at the Selkirk Town homes, Whispering Pines Town homes and the Aspens which get away from the hotel feel but may be a tad pricey (I'm really not sure what these go for a night).

In Revy I have stayed at the Nelson lodge (now Sutton Place). It was a nice new hotel (with kitchenette) but like Golden the resort is a ghost town at night, although in Revy you have the luxury of being close to town. No pool, and one hot tub to share

There are also many good B&B's around that aren't on hill but can offer great value in both Revy and Golden.

I'll keep plugging at this thread as my wife got called into work this morning en route to the ski hill and now I'm sitting here waiting for her. Hopefully it wasn't any of you who bashed their teeth out on their first run.

The Golden Hill can be an exception, most people drive 40 or 50 down the middle. In fairness to them they used watercolours to paint the lines so there are none. Although wait until the sled neck with some nuts hanging off his truck takes the corner to fast and almost rubs you out on the inside barrier then flips you the bird for flashing your brights at him. That corner catches people off guard as it's a nice steady curve and then all of a sudden it gets sharper. I look at the panicked faces as they fly by you and realize they are out of control in the outside lane.

As for the Master Plan should get it here: http://www.kickinghorseresort.com/.....-March2009.pdf, there was also a copy at the BC Visitor Center at the top of the hill and I believe that Town Hall still has a copy to view.

Speaking of KH, skied feuz yesterday for my buddy's birthday. Good times. No better way to spend a birthday then skiing all day with a buddy, even if it puts both of us in the dog house.

I quite enjoy being the opposite of that, scrawny dude in a shitty Hyundai, in a slight drift, but totally controlled. Studs just keep on giving more and more grip after they start to slide, I doubt I'll ever use non-studded winters again.

Link doesn't work. probably the ...'s in it. All I really want to know is if they plan on opening up new hike-to terrain as they lift serve the current hike-to stuff.

When you get up there, T2 is open, and it's pretty damn good. T1 also looked alright, not skiied out or anything, but debatable if the conditions were worth the hike. Cloud was moving in to obscure it so I left, but if it's clear, definitely something to check out.

Heh, if you want to complain about out-of-towners when you're sitting around with other Golden locals with the same views, go right ahead. But none of the Cnd. Rockies maggots I have met fit into any of your stereotypes, so when you post that stuff on this forum it's sort of a waste of time and rather insulting.

However I'm sure we can all agree that people from TO are bad news, every single one of them.

If anyone has any interest in a pair of Salomon Shogun 191s, stiff and fast as fuck, take a look here, would much rather have a local deal than shipping stuff.

i liked the top-to-bottom elevation comparison with europe. didn't see anything exciting lift-wise, but they did worry a lot about real estate

Well, going to the bowl north of Reudi's is pretty interesting. Doubt it'll happen anytime soon, but that's a ton of new terrain for people to spread out over. What's with that second lift they have going pretty well parallel to Stairway? A high-speed upgrade to Stairway that goes to Blue Heaven summit? And any idea what's with their current CRA going back into Canyon Creek is about? Seems like it doesn't go low enough down to actually do anything with, just seems strange.

Just an update on life in general.

I went to walsmart and bought a floor mat

I spent 80 bucks to hit sunshine and it was epic Its on the powder highway. So there is powder.

Also, truckers in rogers pass are fucking lunatics.

There has been more than a few times over the years where I'm pretty sure they've literally tried to kill me. They should drive at a lower speed limit like in the coquihalla. Not 110 in a 90 zone with zero visibility. The fuzz needs to nail those prics more often or something... A menace to society.. they should all be locked up.
