I'm an optimistic. That said, I'm heading to Jackson/Grand Targhee to ski Thu/Fri/Sat. Aside from the few inches possible along and north of I-70 from now through Saturday (best chances later in the week), early 2012 looks dry.

I still think that after the first 2 weeks of 2012 is when we'll start to see snow. These first 2 weeks are gonna be more of the same except they are gonna be much warmer than we've seen. Should be bluebird and warm so ride a bike or something or maybe find a high alpine line that is filled in and go get it done.

Obviously nothing to do with this thread but whatever as this is getting depressing.
We skied at Ski Santa Fe and other than the occasional gaper dodging it was fun to ski all day and not get bored. Also, being able to let your skis run and not hit a closed run was sweet. The conditions weren't epic but the trees were empty, the snow was soft and I even enjoyed skiing moguls. It's not too far for a weekend.
Still haven't bought a pass and it looks like I'll be able to make it to SIA. Hopefully they have the cheap Epic pass.
Let me chime in and say, (a) unless your livelihood is tied to the mountain economy (i.e., montanaskier) or (b) the lack of snowfall has you concerned from a runoff, water supply issue, then bitching about snow for recreation purposes is about as first world of a problem you can have.

WORD!
I'll say that I agree with Rontele....so many things to be thankful for even though it's been a very tough 2 years in so many ways. Lack of snow is literally the least of my worries and yet I am still so blessed in so many ways. Perspective is tough at times but it is something I know I need to work harder at trying to maintain.

Ajax has no business skiing as well as it is right now considering how little snow we have. Perry's, Walsh's, Slalom Hill and Spar (once the sun hit it) were all super fun yesterday. Yeah, it's pretty thin but that's what rock skis are for.

formerly an ambassador for a few others, but the ski industry is... interesting.
Fukt: a very small amount of snow.
yep, still have 4 or 5...and I am trying to figure a place to perhaps crash. I think between those free runs, a free ticket on AK air with the credit card, and some begging in the wife's direction I can pull something off late season. Maybe this time I can ski POW, and not bulletproof death ice.
You should have been here yesterday!
I rode the lift today with a 100 year old snowboarder at Sunlight. Puts these crybaby threads into perspective, that guy was just thrilled to be above ground and on a 19 inch base.

because I'm Montanafuckingskier means I get to bitch about lack of snow. His point is that lack of snow has real impacts to some people. Some people way more than me, but it does play a role. The economies up here are virtuallly dependent on tourism/second home owner dollars. If it doesn't snow and people don't come....then folks aren't in shops buying stuff.

People only buy mattresses when it snows?![]()
For the economies sake it better start snowing somewhere because as I've learned this past week the NM ski economy isn't ready to pick up the slack. Unless those were all faux jean ski pants.
I overheard texans complaining about the lack snow this past weekend at keystone; which confused me as they are typically the ones to complain about too much snow on powder days... Clearly the lack of snow this season is making everyone crazy. It is even turning mags on each other ^^
Back to weather...um, yeah. Tough deal. My roommate is also a meteorologist (just coincidental...I'm not that nerdy) and we were discussing if the storm track *must* change this winter back to a more favorable position. In the last 5 winters, the storm track has always changed around every 4-8 weeks...so it seems this is just the way it should go. However, neither of us could think of a reason, physically, why it must change. Not trying to be a downer, just sayin'.
Here's the current track:

Off to Jackson Hole / Grand Targhee...
