Folks! I'm throwing a party in Boulder with FREE beer (yes, FREE). A season kick-off party if you will, sponsored by OpenSnow and also Ecogroomer.com. It's at Boulder Beer next Tuesday, Dec 13th from 630-830pm. We're asking for a $5+ donation to SOS Outreach charity, which gets you free beer and some apps while they last (it should last for at least an hour...the tab is pretty big:-).

    Details here: https://www.facebook.com/events/135979503179061/

Would love to actually meet some of you front rangers in person!

So the combination of being unemployed, no snow, and now free beer is not helping my growing drinking problem.
I have more skis and bikes than Facebook friends.

breck skied pretty good this am. probably about 2 inches when I got there this morning, and snowed another 2 or 3 by noon when I left.

Ah, the storm that was. Most models got the trajectory right (no snow south and west of Breck), but the amounts...that's amazing to get 4-5 inches out of this when it looked like the moisture would only produce an inch or two. Well, would always rather forecast low...but I still hate surprises either way.

hey joel, i know it's still pretty early to tell, but what do you think about the latest GFS model run? Think we see a decent amount of snow around irwin/CB next week?

after thurs/friday it looks like the pattern is starting to change, frequent shots of moisture coming out of the PNW, but it's still a long ways off so who knows

@BDKeg - I'm pretty impressed with with the trend of the latest models for snow around Irwin/CB on Wednesday.

So without any changes in the pattern or new snow, what's the best bet for next weekend, other than Wolf Creek? Vail is showing lots of groomers open at least. But crowds, prices??

@donkeykong - there will be lots of changes to the snow by next week. Also, here's how the west's snowpack is doing compared to average: http://opensnow.com/blog/2011/12/snow-status-update/

the issue isn't how much snow we've received so far, it's that we got it all so early and it hasn't snowed since. All that is on the ground is a rotten facet factory. Folks need to be careful when it does start because powder fever + a thin, rotten, snowpack + new heavy load = bad news. Stay alert and keep snow dancing.

This 2 week outlook doesn't look good:

Weekend CPC 6-10 and 8-14s are issued without forecaster input.

They may show something, but I'd wait until Monday to start getting excited.

forecast this morning now looks like next weekends storm will dig south again and could be another front range snowmaker. The hits just keep on coming.
