Some of you fools are killing me (figuratively, that is).

If you feel that a certain resort's lift ticket prices are too expensive your option is pretty simple: don't ski there.

If you feel that resorts' lift tickets in general are too expensive, then take up backcountry skiing; it's relatively free (minus the expense of gear, food, gas).

It's pretty lame to complain about ticket prices, especially since skiing in this day and age is a luxury sport akin to SCUBA diving: it's expensive. Deal with it. A ski resort is a business and as such their primary goal is to make money. Bottomline, skiing at a resort is a privilege; one that you pay for. If you believe that skiing is a right, then again, may I humbly suggest that you take up backcountry skiing.

And those of you who bought cheap season passes, why are you even lamenting about single day ticket prices? You already got a pass which = cheaper day rate providing you ski enough days to pay off your pass; complaining about high single day ticket prices seems pointless from that perspective.

Due to at least two family weeklong trips planned to the Northstar area with the wife and kids...I looks like I will be adding Northstar and Heavenly to my arsenal of ski areas of which I can't take full advantage.
The Ritz is ski in/out, and fairly decent accommodations.

Sign-up is free. Not something I would typically post-up (I am not affiliated with Alpenglow or anything), but figured it is a good cause for the Avy Center.

I don't think anyone is really complaining (oh shit I can't ski the 2 open lifts at northstar!) - more surprised that they'd actually charge full price, that's all.

I'm about to complain. Just warming up. Give it time. Anyhow, anyone headed to CPSR early on bird day? I might have a window to get some hiking in. Of course, as long as it is not complete white out. Figuring out the rest of the weekend based on lifts, conditions, child and wife. It sure would be nice if there were enough for danberg to go.

Turkey Day football game @ the south lake high school field @ 10am if anyone is interested. Usually play till 1-2, Bring your morning cocktail of choice. Last year there was 2-3 feet of pow on the field. So far it's looking promising for another snowy game.

Backcountry is expensive. Avalanches. Scary. Stay away. Move along. Nothing to see.

As anyone who has seen me lately knows, I'm fat and lazy lately. Probably 20lbs overweight and my back hurts all the time. That said, I'm going to make a slow slog up Alpine with my newly cut skins, fixed Dynafit boots and updated, remounted Plums on Saturday and/or Sunday. If anyone is interested in joining me, PM or email me with your contact info.

Compared to other years, it's going to ge a funny season, cheap passes to Skwore and high prices at Gnarthestar

the_immaculateD prolly has it right. He reckons the new high prices are due to NS trying to get a bit less crowded.
All that property sold, and so many places to stay...

Which is the same reason they will (prolly) have the best WROD.
They've got to service all those clients.
At the start of last year, they had coverage on more runs than most others, and even got one "steep" run open (Burnout).
Of course, it won't matter once we get some dumps.

(Oh yeah, double trouble. Gnarthestar was just featured in SKI mag as the place to go)

ok, so - Owen and Krystal Kartwright are going to be out of town for 10 days starting Sat, and I might have a few days before I start work to play with some of you fools up at CPRS or KW or somewhere

the coolest kids I know are getting passes at Donner Ski Ranch - of course, they are 9 and 4 and 4, and they don't give a shit about skiing the gnar, just skiing with mom and dad

Last Tuesday, I skied Orion from the top of Dipper at Heavenly. We hiked dirt from Stagecoach to East Peak Lodge. Above East Peak, there was enough blown snow to skin. No base damage on the down. The snowmakers and groomers just waved at us, and not with their middle finger.

Potentially big fire in Reno this morning. At the moment, 6 structures down, likely 12 within minutes.

Schools have been closed today as two of them (Galena and Reno) have become evacuation centers and the emergency response personnel are dealing with the fire and transportation issues as the fire is affecting the beltway (McCarran) around town on the west side.

Blue sky this morning down in Santa Cruz. I'm hoping this one hits Tahoe, and just scrapes us to the north. And then #2 stays off the coast until Pt. C. I like fair weather down here. Keep it blue.

telemike, I will be up for playing around KW, but my schedule will most likely be in 2-4 hour stints on the snow. Hope to be out and about a bit on Thursday morning. Maybe even Wednesday evening. If there is snow.
