is that what the sunshine bus was going up for? we were wondering why it was running, with everything closed

my main field site is the pass, but I'll be spending a week or two in blue river, covering for one of my colleagues while he finishes his level 2. I've heard it's an interesting joint!

I've heard there has been some poor decisions in the past. We mainly just get dropped off at our field site or sled up in the morning and do our own thing anyways.. but on the occasions that we do follow tours, I'll keep that well in mind!!

Ha... I learned to ski there! How far I've come!

Relative to where I skied in Toronto (yes, in the city... Earl Bales, somewhere in the Don Valley), Moonstone was the SHIT!

I AM skiing there as soon as it opens up, it's like 20 minutes away. Should do the trick to tide me over till my next cross-country Hyundai excursion to BC.

^^^ Yup, start at the top. It's a joke, but without my public school having skiing as part of the phys ed program, I would never have learned to ski, and that would be tragic.

i don't understand this bagging on small hills. i logged four and a half winters in saskatchewan skiing 110m of vertical and i had a blast. numbers aren't everything, it's how much fun you have. to this day when i see sask plates in the ski hill parking lot it brings me a smile because i know somebody is having a blast up there, even if they're wearing skidoo suits.

    Done.

And I only bag on Nakiska because they lied to me. 50cm they said, they didn't update from the previous day....it broke my heart, forgiveness takes time.

Skied Nakiska for a few hours today. I had a really good time, coverage on the one run was excellent, and the crowds weren't too bad. It felt good to be skiing again.

Numbers aren't everything, but when you go from BC hills to Sask molehills, it can take some getting used to. Kids have fun on the prairie hills though.

110m vert sounds optimistic for what I saw in Sask unless skinning in Cypress Hills. What hill are you talking about?

But the fact is, molehills just... aren't that much fun.

I'm mulling the worthwhileness of braving the potential crowds for Louise's opening day.

Table Mountain near North Battleford is 110 vertical metres:

blackstrap near saskatoon was about 90. it looks like it's closed now. i've posted pics from both in "worst place you've skied" thread.

I lived in S'toon over one winter. Gave up on local alpine skiing and decided cross country skiing at -30 would be more fun! Also made a lot of trips to the mountains. Four years skiing at table mountain is commendable.

the skiing sucked, but fun was had. it's what you make of the shortcomings

blackstrap in all its glory, 1998:

i just don't like the attitude of the transplant: "i've moved west, so everything east must suck". it's like saying nobody in AB can have fun on water in the summer because they're not on some beach in florida or the caribbean. bah humbug!

You I like... We would get along just fine.
I love the passion that small hills create.
"Oh I'm not heading up to the mountain today because it hasn't snowed in 4 days... "Boo fuckin hoo you spoiled bitches! People who log more than 40 days on some icy bump are true skiers compared to some of my spoiled little bitch buddies.
I'm a rain or shine kind of guy especially since my days are down to the 30 - 50 mark. Any day I'm clipped in on the mountain (hill) is a good one. So I just fuckin send it.

...there is ALWAYS fresh snow to be had if you look hard enough. It stays pretty damned good out here even if it hasn't snowed for a week and you're not hunting freshies.
