has anyone ever been busted in geo bowl? i'm pretty firmly anti-poach, but even i've been in there a few times. meanwhile nobody's getting whitewolf at least until troy gets involved, and the only other bc off squaw that i'm interested in (the oh shit bowl off the back of tower 1) theres a good chance it will be closed due to avy concerns

in the end, this seems to be very bad news for anyone who skis alpine, and especially to those who buy both passes every year anyway

Need a 4-lane tunnel connecting the base areas for the Range Rovers and Subarus.

I don't think there will any doubt that this is inevitable. IMHO, things will stay the status quo for the upcoming season with just the announcement of the purchase. I would b't be surprised if they kept the passes separate for this season. On the other hand....It could be interesting info for them to see how many Squaw pass holders skied A-Meadows and vise-versa. Does anyone have any idea if the pass scanners at each resort can read the other ones tickets/pass? The Whitewolf part might be a couple of months behind and I don't think any way could the lift be ready for this season.

They said they were in the process of drafting a backcountry access policy. Timeframe was not specific, but was not to be 2010-11.

I don't know for sure, but the fact that the passes interfere with each other suggests that they're sufficiently similar. Both use RFID.

I doubt they could get insurance sign-off for a lift built by an entity with no track record. One word: Yan.

Wouldn't that one word be an entity that had a kinda long and shitty track record?

Only if you don't mind the quad in front of you landing in your lap.
    Is WW a fixed grip?

hmmm, if this really happens that would be sweet. i hope they would essentially leave alpine as "alpine" (for now) and make squaw passes good @ alpine this season. longer term a gondi connecting the two and/or white wolf access would be sweet.

but i would give it all up for simple bc access from squaw por favor.

If it happens, don't be surprised if the fairly reasonable price for season passes goes away

Actually, they were okay until the detachables and gondolas (gondolae?). But my point was more that the risk of lift injuries and deaths is now quite clear and sufficiently recent that it would be difficult to insure a new company.

There isn't yet a cable, so it's hard to say.

Depends. Chronologically, Alpine appeared to reduce its price in response to Squaw's drastic reduction. But I'm not sure that Squaw implemented the reduction to compete with Alpine.

My money says there'd be some increase in price, but probably to something closer to the pre-reduction prices at Alpine than at Squaw. And probably some savings vs., say, an "unfiltered" Alpine pass plus a Squaw "gold" pass.

I'd expect a small increase in season passes, but not much. You have to figure they'll keep most of the current Squaw and Alpine passholders and probably steal a good number away from Vail (northstar/heavenly). Their likely goal is to become a Whistler / Blackcomb type destination and pull in a lot of money from tourists both in the Bay Area and all over the world. So I'd expect a bigger increase on regular lift tickets... which is where resorts really make their money anyway (along with concessions, etc. of course and leaving real estate out of the discussion).

    That looks nice.

Those dogs look like they're waiting for someone to come flying through those trees and rocks.

The doggies were on fire, as there were a lot more squirrels, birds and other curios things than normal ski tours. Gotta love Tahoe Summer Skiing.
