Did anyone notice the skiing clips in the Oakland/Denver game last night...? Are they skiing already?

Can anyone offer any beta on how much snow fell in the Eastside this past weekend? In particular, down south around Mt. Gilbert?

Also, any beta on how much snow fell up around Tioga Pass/Saddlebag?

I'm guessing less than a foot around Gilbert if much at all (guessing from webcams). No idea around Saddlebag but I'm sure they got more. You do realize there's a 14k foot mountain w/ 4 feet of new snow 4 hours to the north, right?

    Loveland opened Sunday, A-Basin yesterday.

For those that don't know, it's a yearly race between those two resorts to see who opens first. Heck, they both import top-of-the-line equipment and workers from New Zealand and ishit (they run stories in the Denver Post every season interviewing the crew, showing photos of the equipment and getting quotes about which resort will open first). Them Denverites love their WROD (I used to go out every Halloween to ski A-Basin's strip, but patch skiing in the Sierras is much cheaper!)

Looking to perhaps hit our WROD @ Boreal on Friday...

That is some sick shit. I spent many a wind day staring at the waves crashing on the lake wondering if anyone ever surfed 'em!

That Shasta Pic gave me tingles too!

I still have to knock out my October turns and boy is it going to be tight. Looks like Sunday Morning may be my only chance. Looks like they are dialing back this next system so I may have to go patch hunting or go poach Boreal. The funny thing is Heavenly looked like they laid down more coverage than Boreal!

Honestly, as far as Lake surfing goes, the water was about as warm as it gets. It only looks cold beacuse it was super stormy and some surfers/paddleboarders had hoods on.

In other news, skiing was fun today

Care to share? I may have to rethink my October plan based on that photo!

Yeah Kona12. A write up is on unofficialsquaw right now, and the picture is of my partner skiing off Freel's summit. The north bowl was good too. However, I wouldn't tell anyone to go for it really, unless you're fine with walking and some extremely adventerous/questionable maneuvers on the south side. Could also slog from the north side if you were set on giving it a go. Rose might have a turn or two as well...maybe sonora pass? hope that helps

    Sorry to get off topic...BUT

Who can recommend me a cellphone provider? I'm gonna be around for 12 months max, is it worth just getting a plan? Last year i had an T Mobile at first which SUCKED for coverage in Tahoe, but was pretty cheap (prepaid), and then got a verizon which has good coverage, but was hella expensive to call. Don't really wanna spend more than $50 a month which i did easily on Verizon and didn't even call much.

    Any better options?
My drinking buddies say i have a skiing problem...

I'm not sure how good Sprint's coverage is in Tahoe generally, but know it works at Alpine. Maybe The Dad or someone else with Sprint could weigh in on that. If it is satisfactory, Virgin Mobile has some pretty cheap pre-paid plans.

ATT service is better than T-Mo generally, but I'm not sure what the pre-paid options are like on ATT or if there's a re-branded version that's a pre-pay option. VZW wants a lot for their pre-pay option. If you have a US friend willing to add you to their VZW plan, that may be the cheapest option. Just go buy a CDMA phone on ebay (or use the one you may have from last year) so you don't have a contract and activate it on their plan. You'll pay ~$10/mo to be their "family" member plus you'll have to work out some payment to them to account for the minutes you'll use.

Depends on where. I've had pretty good coverage with Sprint at Alpine, and IIRC, it was better at Squaw. Virgin Mobile uses Sprint's network for pay-as-you go. (Boost might too, dunno.)

I switched from AT&T to VZ when I moved here. Sprint may be worth trying if you can get it significantly cheaper than VZ, otherwise the general consensus seems to be that VZ has the best coverage up here...

DO NOT GET T-MOBILE IF YOU WANT RECEPTION IN THE TAHOE AREA...

I have stood on top of numerous peaks on cloud free days and had zero bars more times than i can count......

cheap. yes. dependable. not so much.

You'll find some fun people to share with who will be heading to Alpine every day. If you have a car to drive them, you'll be their hero. There are usually a bunch of smoking hot south american girls living in various locations. None of them have cars and they love gringos.

The HR office is at the bottom of the access road, next to the Crest Cafe.

Good luck and see you at Alpine.
    Thanks,
I think I'll head up to the job fair they are having next weekend and try and get things figured out. I'm not so sure I would want to work there, but it should be easy enough to straighten out a living situation.
