It really depends where you ski "everyday". In Niseko my everyday ski could easily be 130+ waist. From today though it is 67 (my GS tele skis for the nearby molehill where i try to stay fit until i get to real mountains).

^jondrums, that setup seems killer. I am excited to test out my lhasas.

As far as fat everyday skis go, I have yet to ride the lhasas or XXL's as I mounted them up just before I got injured, and our base was only deep enough that I could feel good riding the bro models. So the 115 underfoot ski has been my everyday in icy hardpack moguls to waist deep blower.

I own more skis, but these are the pairs I basically use as my 2 ski quiver:



188 Rossignol S7, mounted on the 0 line
188 (189? - says that in the serial number but they seem to measure the same at the current 188) Rossignol RC 112 protos, mounted at +2 cm from the line

Skiing at a place like Whistler, I deal with a variety of conditions and terrain on any given day, and a significant part of powder days is not spent skiing pow at all. These 2 pairs give me enough versatility that I can't really go wrong. My choice is based not on depth of snow but by the the simple criteria of whether I can see and will be skiing more alpine, or if it's socked in and will be skiing more trees. But both pairs can do either fairly well.

Figured I drool over so many other's quivers so often, I may as well post my own. My 2010 quiver:

180 BD verdicts w/ Dukes (Everyday + touring)
188 Rossi S7's (deeper than 6 inches or windblown)


Pretty simple, but not quite dialed yet. I would like to have this quiver:


D(C)'s whistler quiver. Pretty much perfect, but I would like to keep a touring setup of some kind.

Edit: I also think that single's quiver and jondrums lhasa/dynaduke combo are also pretty close to perfect.

Hey Bandit Man, those Rossi s6s look suspiciously like the s3s....

Love the fact that a satisfied JJ owner just bought a Rossi S7. Makes me feel less bad about my quiver overlap issues.

Seriously, though, I'd love to hear whether you end up preferring one over the other, or if that answer just depends on the conditions. I did a lot of hand wringing and coin flipping before picking the JJs over the s7s, and absolutely love the JJs.

Also, love my s3s, but haven't found that they really provide significant advantage over the JJs in any conditions. Maybe zipperlines.

^^^^ You're correct, they are S3's not S6's. S7's are one of the few popular funshapes I have yet to dabble with. I do dig the JJ's and am quite curious to see how they compare with the S7's. We need some real snow before that can happen, though.

i'm having a really tough time right now deciding what i wanna keep, let go, and transform into a possible touring ski since i have some new fritschi titanal 3 binders laying around... i have skins cut to fit the mojo 90s but i'm not sure i wanna put the fritschis on there and sacrifice their burly skiing ability... i'm contemplating selling everything and finding a ~100mm waisted ski with a bit of rocker on em (rossi s3?) and a set of dukes for a quiver of one... any thoughts?

I'd put the fritschis on the gotamas. If you're going to have a touring specific ski, don't get dukes. They ski better than fritschis, but they tour much worse.

thanks for your input man... most appreciated... some more info... i'm on the east coast and get out west once a year... the gotamas were pretty great in utah in decent conditions (got 4" over 4 days - bleh) but i do love the mojo 90s for tight east coast tree skiing... but i REALLY want a quiver of one for 90/10 east/west coast where i'm skiing 90/10 resort/bc...

If you really want the quiver of one deal and you're not touring much, the duke/mojo combo might be just what you're looking for. Personally, I think a two-ski quiver is totally reasonable, especially when touring bindings are brought into the mix. If you decide to get dukes, read the care/feeding thread before you do. It seems like these things are about as high maintenance as my buddy's ex-girlfriend.
