Pipe Judges are useless, ya the right guy won but when everyone else had scores that differed by over 1 point per judge 7.1 - 8.2.

They should just get the figure skating judges out.

OMFG watching a replay of the woman's DH...... carnage plus. On the top, on the bottom, right out of the start gate. Looks like all that slush froze solid at the bottom. Anyone notice Vonn through the finish had her right ski out on edge while she stood on the other ski. It was like she was just trying to stop from sliding down the sidehill.
It's not so much the model year, it's the high mileage or meterage to keep the youth of Canada happy

She was taking the weight off her injured shin.

I just got back from skiing and I was afraid I'd miss it, so I'll tolerate the crap to see the gold.

The women's downhill was easily the best thing broadcast on NBC yet, that course was pretty rowdy and they were sending that last drop. The carnage was pretty awesome to watch, mainly that girl who thought she was just gunna slide to the bottom only to launch off the pile next to the finish line

For me, it really exposes snowboarded for how lame it is when they crash and have to crawl on their hands and knees up the jumps.
Glad someone else came out and said it. That event was terrible. Watching them flailing their arms off every jump and looking generally awkward was painful to watch.

Just watched the Women's downhill on a feed from CTV Olympic Video and I have to say, the U.S ladies were the class of the field. The local girls look like every other girl there: scared to death. No colour commentary or play by play so you could hear all these neat little comments between the racers and their coaches, and peps on the slope talking about the lines the racers took and whatnot. Plus Vonn hawking a loogy and talking about her suit being too loose. I'm in love

my thoughts on the spectacles so far:

    - lugue : they should have protected the wall and started back at the normal starting position. I would have loved to see a very scary luge track, but with the certainty of death removed.
    - woman's downhill: totally gnarly. most intense to watch. walking that line of winning or disaster. Thats what I like seeing in Olympic games
    - boarder cross: is stupid, has nothing to do with snowboarding. get rid of it. replace it with slope style. thats more inline with boarding.
    - ski cross: havent seen it, but if its like boarder cross, I cant imagine why they would add another lame event. just cause boarders had it?
moguls: mogul riding was sick, but the jumps...ugh, can 1980 get their tricks back. why hasnt the steeze that I see in the park all day make it to this event? guys, add a grab for crists sake.
    - halfpipe. some sick riding. my favorite trick was the japanese guy with that layed out mctwist. if he hadnt fallen, I would have liked to see im on the podium due to style. I am miffed about snowboarding in general. It seems that they pay an homage to style, but it doesnt really come into the judging. every rider looked to do about 90% the same trick. even sw did the same tricks as others untill his last run. I'd really like someone go down there with nothing more that 540's but tweeked to the gills.

and to skiers who want pipe, and assuming slope style if boarders ever got it, I can see your point, but look at all the different medals for skiing. Let boards have their halfpipe and slopestyle. Its a much more core element to their sport then to yours. Not saying that skiers dont rip in the pipe or park, but as the whole, its not nearly the impact on skiing as the pipe and park has on snowboarding, where as the pipe and park were born from snowboarding.

Not that much actualy. La Face is mostly natural.
The Rhône-Alpes run, built for the 2009 world championship, needed much more dynamite and bulldozing.

I love that they measured how far the one DH'er flew in her fall (can't remember which one it was) off the last jump. 190 feet to ice plant, screw that. I don't know how these chicks just get up and walk away. She almost landed it to if not for hitting the gate on landing.

And NBC can suck it with their coverage. It would have been nice to have the coverage we got on women's downhill for the men's downhill and then maybe we would have seen more than three skiers.

My vote is for the face plant gate double eject, but some great ones for sure.

I do feel a little guilt taking entertainment out of the misery of these top athletes ... I hope no one was seriously injured on some of the more spectacular crashes?

The womens halfpipe is an embarrasment. I can't believe this junk is in the Olympics. The womens downhill was unbelievable, the snowboard womens halfpipe is pitiful.

That was such a scary fall.

Maybe my memory is bad, but I didn't think Torino or Salt Lake had even close to this many downhill/race crashes.
