Snowboard cross - wow - how did the Canadian lose that lead?

Nice to see Mr. Anti Establishment take a spill.

I hope that's not the case, sure the food/beer lines were long but who give a fuck. I don't think I waited more than 5 minutes for a port-a-john all day. And who gives a fuck about a warming tent? What a load of shit this cancellation is.

Not having been up to Cypress yet I can't comment on the conditions of the GA area...but I loved how the news last night was reporting lots about the poor logistics there. And then some VANOC official gives a statement at a press conference about how they have to make some major changes to how they are organizing things there to deal with this.

And then this morning the answer to the problem is delivered: restrict access to a significant number of people and just give them their $50 back under the guise of it being a "safety issue". Yeah right I said to myself.

Problems with long waits for the bus, shitty old buses not being able to make it up the mountain, long lines for food and bathrooms instantly solved.

    I would be so pissed...

The only time I had been to Cypress was 2 years ago - a couple days before New Year's - and they were hardly able to handle the holiday crowd. The lift ticket line (took 40 minutes) and concessions (barely snuck into the restaurant while the warming hut grill was a ridiculous 30-meter line) and end-of-day shuttle bus were total fusterclucks and I woulda thought that additional crowd capacity handling had been worked out by now for, oh you know, the biggest international event ever hosted here.

That said, I really enjoyed that resort under good snow conditions. Sky chair opened in the afternoon and I got 16" of untracked into Top Gun all the way down to the bottom. I had a blast all day finding stashes that no one was really working.

WTF is going on here!?!?!? Now they have a zamboni leaving rutted ice on the speed skating track midway through a competition. 30 minute hold after 9 pairs and then those first 9 pairs will get more recovery between their 1st and 2nd runs.

Were these guys too busy negotiating sponsorship to bother with competition details?

At this point it may be a too much rest disadvantage.

After that first pair since resuming it looks like the ice might be slower. Could bode well for Ireland.

Does anyone else thing that starting on the outside might be an advantage, as you get some draft on the crossover?

Am I the only one who has problems with boardercross as an Olympic sport?

I think it's pretty fucking lame. They should have to carry curling rocks to make it more exciting.

Nah. Those bull prod tazer things for each other. While being shot at by spectators. I'd pay to see that.

I'd pay to stand on the banked corners with a baseball bat. And then at the bottom, rotating knives... then the blood pours down these chutes..

Btw, apparently Cypress has melted. They built the spectator block on bails of hay. Latest report is that people are sinking in up to their tits in muddy goop.

    Let's see them pics..! GONGSHOW..

I'm looking forward to the skiing cross qualy, as I expect the times will be a swack faster than the boarders. Not that that legitimizes ski cross itself.

As much as it seems like a roll the dice and see who stays standing last, the same guy winning here as in Turin disproves that. At least it seems like a sport that ties into what us regular joes can do every weekend, moreso than ski jumping anyways! It also helps North America balance out Europe's dominance in nordic and sliding, which have a swack of medals handed out.

I prefer cross to half pipe (skiing half pipe deserves to go too if snowboard does). Looking forward to constant references to 'amplitude'.

This weather certainly has convinced me and my friends to fly nearly 3000 miles to ski in the Vancouver area. Yup, why even bother with direct flights to Utah powder? I want rain and fog.

There are probably a lot of people out there thinking that. But hey, they finally struck gold!

I had tickets. I was livid.
    two scenarios:
    1. they knew they wouldn't be able to handle the crowds for a long time but decided to cancel everybody at the last minute
    2. they saw what a colossal fuckup they (vanoc/cypress) created with the expected crowds and not enough infrasctructure

and yeah, fuck vancouver/whistler for not creating blue skies each day with 3 feet of snowfall each night!
    holy fucking shitballs

After much hard work by the course crew and slippers and a fortunate drop in temperature and break in the weather the Men's Downhill was ON!

All hands were on deck this day!

Me at the waterfall waiting for the start. The crowds start to build

    Bronze Medalist - Bode Miller

    Top Canadian Erik Guay

The skiers who tackled the bottom of the course well made the best time. The snow lower down got warmer, slower and more challenging.

    Looking down the Dave Murray

    The Olympic Champions;
Aksel Lund Svindal - Didier Defago - Bode Miller

    The flame in Whistler.

No less legit than moguls or aerials IMO. Was there even any effort to get skiing pipe in these games? What about 2014?

Wescott's comeback in that race was incredible. I had heard he won, but halfway through the race I was just thinking there was no way. You never see anyone make up that much ground in final.

The issue, IMHO, is not that Vancouver hasn't presented those conditions, but rather that Vancouver (really Whistler/Cypress... there's no excuse for the shit at the speed skating oval) can't be relied upon to produce those conditions. Why schedule the Olympics somewhere that you're depending on a "best-case scenario" to produce reasonable conditions?

I think anyone that knows anything about the weather up that way knew that there was a better-than-average chance that conditions would suck.
