I wouldn't say he looked pouty, I think that's the way he usually looks. I've seen him take gold and WC events and he's had the same unimpressed, stone cold look on his face. I would say he's like Spock and suppresses his emotions, maybe that's why he's such a great skier?

^^ I'd be fucking pissed with VANOC right now. At the Callaghan they had a big snowpit for the General Admission with tourists slipping & sliding everywhere. At some point, the smurfs started to desperately shovel stairs into the snowslide that was the access hill. Apparently no one had thought "gee, what will happen when THOUSAND OF PEOPLE tromp all over this melty snowshit?" Heavens. VANOC fail.

And now one of the most popular events of the Olympicon will have 80% less audience or so .. disaster.

Oh ya, as for Begg-Smith, the guy is a douche in my books first & foremost for his spyware/adware biz. Anyone who can profit from that kind of shit evidently lacks ethics, and Begg-Smith's lack of emotion only confirms that he is not "cool," but ruthless -- in short, a functioning sociopath just this side of ambivalent evil. Of course such people do well. Just be glad Beggs-Smith wasn't into being an arms dealer, smuggling blood diamonds or draining Alberta for oil.

Hopefully the CDN Quebecois trio continues to teach him a lesson or two. I definitely don't feel like he's a product of the West Coast culture I know & love.

so I assume ^^this^^ is why I'm sitting at home watching the downhill instead of watching the snowboard cross up at Cypress. Pretty sure I'd be able to stay on my feet without killing myself up there. Jesus if I wasn't on such a high from the last three awesome days, if this was my only event, I'd be fucking pissed right now

It was slushy and a bit slippery at Cypress yesterday but the area was pretty flat. I could see it being a gong show if the terrain was uneven

FUCK YOU NBC!!!! Thank god for Ustream...but I don't understand the French announcers. Bode seems a bit vulnerable in the middle part of the course, but he schorched at the top and bottom...

Looks like something is up with the American's gear. They must have tuned slightly different than the Austrians/Norwegians/Swiss....speeds for the American racers are generaly 1-2 mph slower than the other top racers in the middle of the course. Can Bode stay in the medals?
Damn shame, throwing away a perfectly good white boy like that

Yeah...definitely something with the tunes...unless the weather is that variable...I can't tell on the stream I am watching.

    What a start ....

I was at the game when the Canadian women’s hockey team destroyed Slovakia 18-0. The announcer hadn't even finished annoucing who scored the 14th goal when the 15th went in. And when a girl returned from the washroom, she and asked what she missed, and her father replied, only two goals.

Then yesterday I boozed it up with some great friends at the German House watching Canada get bronze in women's long track and gold in men's moguls.

The energy and excitement in the city has just been amazing.

bode did make a couple of mistakes, but the racing is incredibly close anyways (.36s off the pace gets you 6th place, as it just did for Cuche). the guys with the bad tunes are 1.5s slower without making any mistakes, so i would say bode's skis were on par with the rest.

Gotta love La Nina timing with the games. Can they salt and groom the shit out of it? Is it seriously so warm that there is no way to pack it into a supportable surface?

Got to wonder what's happening with the snow. The italian dude was a tenth ahead on last interval and finished .5 back. It was right around then I noticed bright sun on portions of the lower course and it's above freezing. You either waxed right or really wrong is my guess. Bode may have been robbed a bit by conditions. It seems to be speeding up since his run. I thought it would just get rough but seems to be standing up.
It's not so much the model year, it's the high mileage or meterage to keep the youth of Canada happy

    Thanks for the ustream tip.

Fuck you NBC. I tried going through the "offishal" site. What a fucking joke.

I searched and tried a bunch of different stuff that didn't work and was just about to post a query, I don't think these guys are French though, but I do get to watch the downhill.
    Yeah. Thanks again.

Just watched some of the trials for Men's Snowboard Cross.
    That course looks fucking burly.
Doods are crashing running the course solo.

I would have happily paid $50 for an all access, live HD streaming pass for the Olympics...or even $5/event. They are so worried about diluting viewership to their primetime events, they just decided to take all options off the table. I think they missed a huge revenue opportunity.

I can't remember an olympics with such limited viewing options...feels like 1998.

FUCK YOU NBC (except for 30 Rock)

NBC will show the figure skating live. That's great if your a flaming homo.
CTV showing downhill live, with Sportsnet slightly behind.

Defago was so quick between interval 3 (1:12) and 4 (1:35). Good for Erik Guay!

Really? You're putting arms dealing and blood diamonds in the same sentence as oilsands? Perhaps oil in Nigeria would be a fair comparison...I don't wholly support the oilsands, but they're not killing people.

Anybody catch Landsberg hassling Biden? That was the epitome of awkward. Landsberg is a creepy ass dude - I would run if he approached me on the street.

NBC just should show all sports live and then run a prime-time package with the stuff replaid and live events mixed in. Look I get it- you want the downhill aired in prime time but that doesn't work. tough shit. Air the replay, don't f with me and I'll prob. watch.

I'll find out who won anyway...you can't keep the suspence in today's world.

Do you remember a few years back when he got into a punch up with some wedding party at the hotel he was staying at? Sure the wedding party could have been obnoxious but we see how obnoxious he is everytime he's on screen.

I had the sound down for that Biden bit but it looked awkward.

that was a good DH race, I didn't think anyone was going to catch Bode after that top section, he was hauling ass. There must have been a really slow section (for the second 1/2 of the field) in the middle. So many guys were close at the second split, then way back at the next one.

Congrads to Erik for 5th. Robbie looked like he was skiing for only gold. Old school Crazy Canucks style.

SX course looks pretty sick for sure. Is this the same course for boarder and skier cross races?

heavens, I'm not being fair, I'm being gonzo

big props to Bode, he just killed it considering he doesn't even summer train for DH anymore but is trying to become a pro-golfer instead.

btw, word from CBC Radio is that the REAL reason the Cypress general admission was cancelled was because of overall bad logistics -- massive lines for food, not enough toilets, 150 person warming tent, etc. i am wondering if there were health & safety violations ..
