Need some guidance on pow ski's

Had my heart set on some moment bibby's, but with the recall deal world cup here wont have any for atleast a couple more weeks. Did some more poking around and it seems maybe thats not quite a big enough ski for me...5'10", 215lbs...came from a powerlifting background so I'm not a complete slob, but definitely not your average skier build.

Want a light(er) ski that I can throw some dukes on for quick powder missions, but something thats still versatile enough to use on days when theres just 3-6" of fresh. and something I can huck on to display my mad steeze every now & then as I ride with mostly snowboarders.

Thinking...193 EHP's, Praxis 192 big mtn's, etc...something with some tip rocker & some width, but not 140 width.

should I just pick up the bibbys & let my manhood be diminished by a ski thats less than 190 in length? are any of you moment guys 200lbs + & skiing bibbys? what say you tgr?

sounds good but $900 for the lighter carbon version is steep. especially when I can get bibbys for $300 cheaper. all for supporting pmgear & splat, but I'm a 20 something dude on a tight budget.

    should've added - I'm a cheap bastard.

Then buy a cheap ski and regret it. Or buy the Lhasa's that will do all you want and be happy. (save 100 bucks and get the glass version)

I agree it is a constitutional right for Americans to be assholes...its just too bad that so many take the opportunity...

I love how the answer to EVERY ski question in this forum is LHASAPOW!!! WOOHOO! I mean, I'm sure they are great skis and all but seriously there are a TON of good skis out there. Just b/c the guy doesn't want to drop $900 on a pair doesn't mean he is going to go out and get some other piece of crap ski that he is going to 'regret'.

Math - sounds like you'd be stoked on the 193 EHP...it's a great, super fun ski. And enough burl to hold up to some serious abuse.

after more searching it seems my best options for what I'm looking for probably are the ehp or praxis big mtn....which @ 800 is right up there with the lhasa pow.

none of you bigger guys are riding bibbys?

Honestly, I think the Praxis Powders would work quite well for what you what, and you can find some used ones for ~$400 these days. I think the concern would be the 3"-6" days, but, in my experience, the Powders float well and make such conditions a lot more fun. They're pretty easy to spin and much easier than most twins to land switch. And, you can absolutely mach through powder or crud (I'm thinking Aly's North Face). I wish I had them two years ago when I lived in Anchorage.

Of course, all the other skis sound great, too. I just haven't skied them.

I skied a few Moment skis at the Loveland demo last Friday. I skied the 182 M1's, 190 Ruby and the Bibby's. To tell you the truth I wasn't impressed with any of the skis. There was a few inches of new snow and they opened some new terrain that had some fresh snow as well. All the skis I tried felt very hooky in the new snow and they got tossed around in any variable snow or crud.

This may have been do to a more forward mount since they were demo bindings and I have small boots. I thought all of the skis felt really small, even the 190 Rubys. Also the skis are extremely light, especially in the tips, which I didn't care for.

The Bibby's felt especially small and got tossed around in the variable snow later in the day. They were too small, too light, and too soft for my taste. I know a lot of people like them, but they were not for me.

I'm 5'9", 180 lbs; like to ski fast wide open turns in all conditions. I prefer stiff damp skis in general, but have fallen in love with my 195 Praxis Pows (my favorite ski ever, ski it about 95% of the time now)

Other skis I've liked: Head Monster 103 (every day skis), Atomic Pow +, 190 Igneous FFF Flex 240, 195 Praxis Pow

I highly recommend Praxis skis. Definitely worth the money....

Atomic Thugs? You can find them cheap on ebay. But I would jump on the praxis deal RIGHT NOW!

I'm a bit smaller than you, 5'10 202lbs, just got a pair of EHP193 with Dukes, haven't skied them yet though but I'll let you know. Pretty stoked on the skis just from fondling them. I thought about Bibby's as well but after doing some research decided they would be too soft as I prefer a ski I can drive (racing background). The Lhasas look sick, I fondled a pair in Whistler last year, but I got a deal on the EHP's that was within my budget. I'd consider a Lhsaha 196 if the cost is similar. BTW what is your max squat .

If you want to go local, World Cup in Anchorage has a pair of the Rossignol S7 in the 188cm that seem like they would fit the bill. a lot stiffer than the Moment skis, which is nicer for us big guys...

ya an EHP/duke combo would be sick methinks...havent squatted more than 8 plates in a few years, back in the day I hit 590 a couple times but I was also 40lbs heavier. definitely glad I moved back to skiing.

    Math,

your welcome to try out my 195 Praxis pow/Duke combo if you like. I guarantee you'll be grinnin They've made the last couple of days on the North Face kick ass fun, even in all the cut-up chunder, and the traverse / groomer issues turned out to be no big deal.

Hey SunshineTom, I don't want to highjack this thread, but saw your post and wondered where you mounted your Praxis. I have the same set up and am wondering about mounting a little further back than the 104 I am at and am canvassing other owners for input.

Got a pair of S7 188 a couple of weeks ago from my rep and I love them for the fresh stuff. I am only 5'7" 165lbs and they ski short so might be to short for you. Next year they are supposed to make a 195cm.

    Go big:

    Praxis 195
    Lhasa 196
    Solly Rocker 192
    Pontoon 189
    etc

absolutely get reverse camber or a rockered tip
reverse sidecut is a joy IMHO

My favorite is the Praxis Powder195
Lhasa 196 I have not skied yet

I have both Praxis 195 and EHP 193.

They are both great but totally different skis.

The Praxis is still my favorite ski. So much fun in anything soft and smooth.

The EHPs are more versatile, faster, and easier to stomp. Not to mention you can be more "precise" on harder snow.

Either way you'll be happy. It's really a matter of how much you like the idea of slarving turns. I love it.

Umm, I'm guessing Math already bought a pair, since he posted this three months ago.
